This week, if you’re reading a story can you draw a story map of what has happened so far? If it’s a non-fiction book, can you draw a diagram with labels as to illustrate one thing you have learnt. Music: This week you are going to listen to a piece of music and try to illustrate it by thinking about the lyrics and what they mean. Have a go at using ‘Power in me’ first. You can look at the lyrics or just listen to them and draw a picture to represent the lyrics and meaning of the song. Next, have a listen to ‘Two worlds’ from the Disney film Tarzan. Try to represent this song in pictures one rule though, you cannot draw the characters from Tarzan! The lyrics to both songs are attached below. This week we will be learning about non-chronological reports (you should hopefully remember some of this from when we wrote our non-chronological reports about dragons) so that next week we can write our own reports about The Mary Rose which you will learn about in tomorrow’s history lesson. Attached are two non-chronological reports about animals. Have a read through and see what you notice, what features they have and what kind of language they use. Then using the cue card and the list of features, see if you can identify these features in the text. If you can, you might like to print one of the reports so that you can label and highlight the different features that you find. The text needs to be organised into clear sections and paragraphs to ensure it is easy to find the information. Today, you have some information about the Titanic to read and then some questions to answer. This will help you to understand how a clear layout and clear paragraphs help you to find the answers. To help you find and construct your answers, you might want to highlight the key words in the questions and in the text. Once you have answered the questions, have a think about what was useful about the layout of the text and what could have been better to make it easier to find information as a reader. History: Next week, our English work will be all about ‘The Mary Rose.’ Today, you will need to research The Mary Rose using these key questions: -What was The Mary Rose? -Why is the ship famous? -Why is The Mary Rose important? This website will be very useful and also this one. One way to present your work would be to split a page into 3 parts and label each part with one of the questions but you can present it however you want to. Collect as much information as you can to answer each of the questions. The more you know about The Mary Rose, the easier you will find the English work next week! There is a challenge in the middle that you will need to solve. Now have a look at the challenges around the edge how many of them can you answer? You will need to be resilient and might need to try more than once we look forward to seeing your calculations when you’ve finished! Cohesive Devices Cohesive devices are words or phrases that help to join clauses, make sure your writing flows and helps the different parts of the text fit together. They help to create cohesion. I have attached a list of lots of different words and phrases which help to create cohesive texts. Today, you are just going to practise putting them into sentences. Firstly, choose a topic that you know a lot about. It can be anything you want even video games or your favourite band. Then have a go at using some of the phrases in your sentences start verbally and then once you’ve had a go, write some of them down. Start with the white box as they are slightly easier to put into sentences. Concentration: On the school website, concentration is described as being able to: Manage distractions Get lost in the task Do one thing at a time Break things down Plan and think it through Draw diagrams, jot down thoughts that help Manage your time efficiently/work hard

PM TASK 2

Weekly learning objective

WALT: adding two 4 digit numbers (this will be good revision of the skills but also a chance for you to really work on your reasoning answers!)

WALT: construct a non-chronological report Reading journal for the week: Choose a

book, either from Bug Club, an audio book, or an actual

book!

This week, if you’re

reading a story can you draw a story map of

what has happened

so far? If it’s a

non-fiction book, can you draw a diagram with labels

as to illustrate one thing you have

learnt.

Music:

This week you are going to listen to a piece of music and try to illustrate it by thinking about the lyrics and what they mean. Have a go at using ‘Power in me’ first. You can look at the lyrics or just listen to them and draw a picture to represent the lyrics and meaning of the song. Next, have a listen to ‘Two worlds’ from the Disney film Tarzan. Try to represent this song in pictures – one rule though, you cannot draw the characters from Tarzan! The lyrics to both songs are attached below.

MON Please follow the links below for this week’s White Rose lessons as these videos are not available on their website.

White Rose Maths:

1s, 10s, 100s and 1,000s Watch the video and complete the worksheet

What is a non-chronological report? This week we will be learning about non-chronological reports (you should hopefully remember some of this from when we wrote our non-chronological reports about dragons) so that next week we can write our own reports about The Mary Rose which you will learn about in tomorrow’s history lesson. Attached are two non-chronological reports about animals. Have a read through and see what you notice, what features they have and what kind of language they use. Then using the cue card and the list of features, see if you can identify these features in the text. If you can, you might like to print one of the reports so that you can label and highlight the different features that you find.

Task 2: My Maths Working with thousands

If you don’t get 100% the first time don’t worry! Try it again to see if you can improve your score.

Titanic comprehension (separate PDF) The purpose of a non-chronological report is to inform the reader on the subject.

History:

Next week, our English work will be all about ‘The Mary Rose.’ Today, you will need to research The Mary Rose using these key questions: -What was The Mary Rose? -Why is the ship famous? -Why is The Mary Rose important? This website will be very useful and also this one. One way to present your work would be to split a page into 3 parts and label each part with one of the questions but you can present it however you want to. Collect as much information as you can to answer each of the questions. The more you know about The Mary Rose, the easier you will find the English work next week!

Task 2 – key Task

Please write a written explanation for how you solved this problem and upload it to seesaw to be marked.

WED Mid-Week Maths Madness

Have a look at Maths Challenge Card 14 below. There is a challenge in the middle that you will need to solve. Now have a look at the challenges around the edge – how many of them can you answer? You will need to be resilient and might need to try more than once – we look forward to seeing your calculations when you’ve finished!

Then have a go at using some of the phrases in your sentences – start verbally and then once you’ve had a go, write some of them down. Start with the white box as they are slightly easier to put into sentences.

Concentration:

On the school website, concentration is described as being able to: Manage distractions Get lost in the task Do one thing at a time Break things down Plan and think it through Draw diagrams, jot down thoughts that help Manage your time efficiently/work hard

Page 2: WEEKLY SUGGESTED TIMETABLE YEAR 4 Week Beg. 15 Junefourlanes-jun.hants.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/... · 2020. 6. 12. · Next, have a listen to ‘Two worlds’ from the Disney

Then have a go at using some of the ones in the colourful boxes. e.g Harry Potter is often seen as the hero due to the fact that he is the one who defeats Voldemort. On the other hand, many think the true hero is Snape.

So this week you will need to use concentration to make a maze. You can draw it or make it out of anything you like. I have attached some pictures that might give you a few ideas. Once you have created your maze, see if someone else can find their way through your maze!

THURS White Rose Maths:

Add two 4-digit numbers – one exchange Watch the video and complete the worksheet

Planning a report

Today, you will plan a non-chronological report on any subject that you know a lot about. It could be a country (you could use your Europe topic work from the start of lockdown), a football team, an animal or you could even create your own fantasy land! Attached is a way to plan a report starting with a mind map and then organised into paragraphs. You will need to collect as much information as possible today which will then support your writing tomorrow. You will need a title, 3 sub headings and then information linked to those subheadings so that you can write 3 paragraphs. Follow the example plan to see how it will look. You will need to use the cue card and the list of features from Monday’s lesson to ensure you include them all. You might also want to find/draw the images you will use on your non-chronological report.

French:

Today you will need to ‘pack’ two suitcases full of items you would need for two very different holidays! Firstly, draw two suitcases. One will be for a hot summer beach holiday and the other will be for a cold winter ski holiday. You need to fill each suitcase with the appropriate clothing by drawing it or you might want to do it on a computer. Then, you will need to find the French word for each item of clothing and write that down next to the item. This website will be a good starting point for finding the words you need – it definitely works in chrome but not always in Internet Explorer.

Task 2: My Maths Addition and subtraction 4 - OW

If you don’t get 100% the first time don’t worry! Try it again to see if you can improve your score.

White Rose Maths:

Writing your report

It’s writing day! Using your plan you will today need to write your introduction (just a sentence or two to introduce the topic) and then your 3 paragraphs that you have planned. Remember:

neat handwriting full stop and capital letters spelling present tense 3rd person conjunctions – especially subordinating conjunctions like ‘because’ which help you to explain Challenge: can you use some of the cohesive devices

from Wednesday’s lesson? Once you’ve finished writing, try to present the work as a eye catching non-chronological report with pictures/diagram, a title, subheadings which are underlined etc. Make it look like your best work and be proud of what you’ve achieved!

Science:

Can you think of any types of seeds and where you might find them or have seen them? Jot down your ideas and then watch this clip to see how many you got! Today we are going to look at seed dispersal and the different ways which it can happen. How do you think a plant spreads its seeds so that more can grow? Watch this clip and write down the main ways seeds are dispersed. Illustrate each dispersal method with a diagram or drawing and write a sentence/caption to explain it. If you can, go outside and look at some flowers. See if you can see where their seeds are. On some flowers it is more obvious than others. Do all the seeds look the same? How are they different? How do you think this might affect the method in which they are dispersed? Jot down your findings with some sketches of the flowers/seeds.

Task 2 – Key Task

Top tip: You will need to think about where the exchanges are and put them in too. Please write a written explanation for how you solved this problem and upload it to seesaw to be marked.

Remember to also complete the following: Spelling Shed, Times Tables Rock Stars, Grammar Bug, Bug Club

Power In Me

When the race is nearly done, And I feel I can't go on,

I know I can do something about it. My heart will start to race,

My body find the motion, And I will feel empowered from within.

I've got the power in me, You've got the power in you.

I've got the power, p p power, got the power in me.

Nobody's gonna hold me back, Nobody's gonna silence my words,

Nobody's gonna close my mind, I've got the power in me!

When someone's needing help, And the world just walks on by,

I know I can do something about it. I'll stand up for their rights,

My voice will find the words, And I will feel empowered from within.

I've got the power in me, You've got the power in you.

I've got the power, p p power, got the power in me.

Nobody's gonna hold me back, Nobody's gonna silence my words,

Nobody's gonna close my mind, I've got the power in me!

When my mind is closing down, And I'm lacking inspiration,

I know I can do something about it. No one can stop me learning,

Create my dreams and future, And I will feel empowered from within

I've got the power in me, You've got the power in you.

I've got the power, p p power, got the power in me.

Nobody's gonna hold me back, Nobody's gonna silence my words,

Nobody's gonna close my mind, I've got the power in me!

We got the power You got the power I got the power the power in me!

We got the power Got the power! You got the power Got the power!

I got the power, the power in me Got the power in me!

Two Worlds – Phil Collins

Put your faith in what you most believe in

Two worlds, one family

Trust your heart

Let fate decide

To guide these lies we see

A paradise untouched by man Within this worlds blessed with love A simple life, they live in peace

Softly tread the sand below your feed now Two worlds, one family Trust your heart Let fate decide To guide these lives we see

Beneath the shelter of the trees Only love can enter here A simple life, they live in peace

Raise your head up Lift high the load Take strength from those that need you Build high the walls Build strong the beams A new life is waiting But danger's no stranger here

No words describe a mother's tears No words can heal a broken heart A dream is gone, but where there's hope

Somewhere something is calling for you Two worlds, one family Trust your heart Let fate decide To guide these lives we see
