The Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage: Walking 500 Miles in Prayer

My name is Marti Adams and I have been a member of Holy Rosary for the last few years. I heard about the Camino De Santiago a few years ago from a friend who wanted to set off on an epic adventure. For those of you who have not heard of this, the Camino is a pilgrimage that leads to the shrine of the Apostle James. There are many Camino paths or Ways that lead to the Cathedral of Santiago Compostela in Galicia, Spain. I was not a Catholic at the time, and I could not even fathom walking close to 500 miles across Spain for a pilgrimage by myself.

I recently went through the RCIA process at Holy Rosary and at the Easter Vigil 2018 I was Baptized, received my First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. It was after this that the thought of the Camino started to come back to me. I have come to find that God will make a way for things to happen when they are sup-posed to. So, on August 15, 2019, I set off for 6 weeks to walk the Camino Frances, or the French Way. When you try to explain to people that you went on vacation to walk anywhere from 10 to 25 miles a day for 30 plus days, they look at you a little strange, but there is something freeing about the experience. I met so many wonderful people along the route, from all different coun-tries. It was amazing the connections I made with people in such a short time. It is also interesting how much stress is alleviated when all I had to do was walk and the only belongings that I worried about were carried on my back. The time spent walking was also a great time to just be with God, the rhythm and flow of my steps seemed perfect for med-itative prayer. Walking through the various country sides you get to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation. The col-ors seemed more vibrant and the sounds more clear. I learned a lot while on this journey, but as I return to work and my normal life, I hope that I am still struck in awe at what the creator has laid before us and see the beauty in and the connection to the people I meet each day.

La Peregrinación del Camino de Santiago: Caminando 500 millas en Oración

Mi nombre es Marti Adams y he sido feligrés de Santo Rosario durante los últimos años. Hace unos años escu-ché sobre el Camino de Santiago por parte de un amigo que quería emprender una aventura épica. Para aquellos de ustedes que no han oído hablar de esto, el Camino es una peregrinación que conduce al santuario del Apóstol Santiago. Hay muchos caminos que conducen a la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela en Galicia, España. No era católica en ese momento y ni siquiera podía imaginar caminar cerca de 500 millas a través de España para una peregrinación yo sola.

Recientemente pasé por el proceso de RICA en Santo Rosario y en la Vigilia Pascual 2018 fui bautizada, recibí mi Primera Comunión y Confirmación. Fue después de esto que la idea del Camino de Santiago comenzó a volver a mí. He descubierto que Dios hará un camino para que las cosas sucedan cuando se supone que deban suceder. Entonces, el 15 de agosto de 2019, partí durante 6 semanas para caminar por el Camino Francés. Cuando intentas explicarle a la gente que te fuiste de vacaciones para caminar de 10 a 25 millas por día durante 30 días o más, te miran un poco extra-ño, pero hay algo liberador en la experiencia. Conocí a tantas personas maravillosas de todos los países a lo largo de la ruta. Fueron sorprendentes las conexiones que hice con la gente en tan poco tiempo. También es interesante la canti-dad de estrés que se alivia cuando todo lo que tenía que hacer era caminar y las únicas pertenencias que me preocupa-ban las llevaba en la espalda. El tiempo que pasé caminando también fue un buen momento para estar con Dios, el ritmo y el flujo de mis pasos parecían perfectos para la oración meditativa. Caminando por los diferentes lados del país, puedes apreciar la belleza de la creación de Dios. Los colores parecían más vibrantes y los sonidos más claros. Aprendí mucho durante este viaje, pero a medida que regreso al trabajo y a mi vida normal, espero que todavía me sorprenda lo que el creador ha puesto ante nosotros y ver la belleza y la conexión con las personas que conozco cada día.

Art at the Abbey The Norbertine Community of Santa Ma-ria de la Vid Abbey hosts their fourth an-nual art show, “What is Holiness?”—an exhibition of works which reflect personal interpretations of holiness, a call that transcends religion and creed. 177 Project Wednesday, November 13, 2019

The 177 Project will be visiting Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish. The 177 Project is a nationwide

tour designed to help bring more people into Eucharistic Adoration. The night begins with an

acoustic concert before moving into a Holy Hour. Confession will be available. The evening begins at 7:00pm and no tickets are necessary. The event is

free to attend. A love offering will be taken. Lee Roessler will be the artist traveling for this event.
