Teaching Vocabulary to Children• Example Lesson Plan• Create a set of memory cards for the children with a total of six

cards arranged in two rows of three cards. On three cards are new vocabulary words and on the other three are the pictures that correspond with the words

• Have the children turn the cards face down, shuffle them, and then rearranged them in two rows of three cards each

• Have the children turn over two cards at one time, and if the picture and the word correspond to each other than the child earns a point and takes the cards off the field

• The goal is to have the children associate pictures with words

Ideas for Classroom Setup• Teachers can hang the students’ vocabulary pictures on a wall

in the back of the classroom• Teachers can have a little shelf of English books and

encourage the children to read them whenever there is free time

Page 16: Week Two Elite. Ways to Review Flashcards Practice by making ten flashcards with previously learned vocabulary Sentences with learned vocabulary Review

Encourage Students to Read More and to Write More• Assign the children a little reading each week and ask them to

complete it• At the end ask the children to read the story out loud together• Once all the students finish reading the stories, ask the

children to write down a little summary of the reading and draw a little picture

• Create a chart with all the children’s names on it and place a star next to each student who completed the task of reading, speaking, and drawing
