Week 9 25-‐29/05/2020 Monday’s Work 25/05/2020 Maths: This week we will be learning all things Money Related. The focus is on coin recognition addition of 1,2 & 5c coins. Ask the boys’ throughout the week to recognise various coins. Ensure the boys’ understand that yes there is 3c & 4c, but no such coin exists. Oral Language: Activities and Vocabulary Discussed throughout the Week This week’s theme: The Funfair and Theme Parks Week 3 Vocabulary: Tier 1 examples: funfair, merry-‐go-‐round, big wheel, funfair game, ride, horse, pole, swing, seat, cans, ball, ticket, prize, cuddly toy Tier 2 examples: candyfloss, giant lollipop, coloured lights, and spin, swing Tier 3 examples: attraction, saucer, booth, carousel, vehicle, passenger, and preference
Oral Language Activity One Fun fair feelings Play this short video of a child at a fun fair for the class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y38K5IDzUDM Ask your son how they think the little boy might feel about each of the rides, encouraging him to use the appropriate verbs for each ride and to justify his answers, e.g: I think the boy feels nervous when he lifts off in the ferris wheel because… it goes up so high. I think he feels giddy when he spins around on the dodgems because… they go so fast. Questions: – have you been to a funfair? Did you feel this way when you went on the ferris wheel /rollercoaster/dodgems? Etc.

Choose a funfair activity and describe to your son e.g. This is big and spins around in the air (big wheel/Ferris wheel); this goes super-‐speedy on a twisty track (roller coaster). etc. Children must guess which activity is being described. When they are familiar with the activity, allow the children to describe and for you to guess rides. The game could also be expanded to include funfair food (popcorn, hotdog, candyfloss, lollipop, etc.)
