Week 7 – 14th March 2018 Sharing Our News Parent/Teacher Interviews are being held all of next week in the
library. If you have not booked a time to see your teacher please
contact the school to arrange an interview. Please sign in and out
of the 'Visitor Book' which will be located inside the entry of the
library. Tea and coffee will also be provided on the day. Our
teachers are looking forward to discussing your child strengths and
improvements next week.
A huge thank you to Mrs Hunter and Mr Ingram for their
professionalism, support and commitment to S2G and Stage 2 over the
past three weeks. The students in the class have been working hard in
all key learning areas. Mr Ingram has displayed wonderful leadership
towards Stage 2 and offered some great advice to our teachers and
executive team. We look forward to hearing the stories from Mrs
Griffiths when she returns on Monday.
It was encouraging to see 17 of our Stage 2 students accept into the
Children's University program at King Street Public School. Students will
be presented with their passports today to start their extra curricular
learning journeys. We look forward to presenting all of our participants
with their graduating certificates at the University towards the end of the
year.
Our Best Always! It was a wonderful spectacle down out Rose Point
Park yesterday with our Stage 3 boys competing in the Steve Simpson
Rugby League competition. Our students competed with
distinction throughout the day and performed at a very high standard
with outstanding teamwork across the park. An amazing achievement to
hold the trophy at the end of the day. Great job gentlemen.
Good luck to our girl's cricket team who are off to play Singleton PS in
the PSSA knockout competition today. We look forward to hearing
about all of the runs scored, the wickets taken and the classic catches in
next week's newsletter.
A reminder that tomorrow, Thursday 15th March, is a Pupil Free Day.
All teaching staff will be off the school site training in Visible Wellbeing.
There will be no supervision for students. Students will return on Friday
16th March. A huge thank you to our parents for your support in
allowing our teachers to train in this important area of Positive
Psychology.

Success on the
Netball Court
Last week a team of
talented, energetic
KSPS netballers
participated in the
Zone Trials at Rose
Point Park.
It was a fabulous day
of play with 4 of our
students advancing
to the ‘possibles and
probables’- Laila, Ava N, Ava M and Holly.
Congratulations to Ava N and Holly who advanced
to the next level and will compete in the Regional
Trials.
Children’s University Excitement
Today our Children’s University students were
issued with their ‘Passport to Learning’ in which the
hours of validated activity are recorded. Once they
have reached the required number of hours children
will graduate.
These 17 Students undertake educational activities
and volunteering outside of school hours and are
recognised for these achievements. At the
completion of the Program they will be awarded
formal certificates and graduate from the Children’s
University.
Certificates are presented at graduation ceremonies
held once a year at a University of Newcastle Great
Hall. We look forward to following these students on
their journey.
Steve Simpson Shield Winners
Our KSPS Senior Rugby League team played
fantastic on Tuesday winning all 5 games
convincingly against Metford PS, St Patricks
Cessnock, St Patrick Lochinvar, Morpeth PS and
Muswellbrook South PS.
The first game against Metford PS was a hard start
for the boys, but after some great work from Naite H
the team came out winners 20-12.
The second game against St Patricks Cessnock saw
them take an early lead 12-4 but some great runs
from the forwards and good passing from Riley M
helped KSPS come back and win 24-16.
Morpeth PS tried really hard in the third game but
the KSPS boys were way too good defending them
finishing the game 44-0.
The fourth game against St Patricks Lochinvar
started really well with two quick tries. The hard work
from Paris F and Julian S helped King Street win 28-
12.
After a long day the fifth game saw a lot of tired boys
but with the thought of being undefeated in their
minds the boys put on an excellent effort to win 28-
16.
The hot weather did take a lot out of the boys
throughout the day but with plenty of help from our
KSPS parents who kept our boys hydrated, they
pushed through. Thank you very much to everyone
that came along to support our team on the day.

READ, READ, READ Premiers Reading Challenge is now open and
students can borrow books from both the school
library and the local public library to read during this
time. Our school library has a list of suitable books
for students of all ages to read.
Parents can read to younger students and add those
experiences to their reading log. When helping
children read at home remember when your child
gets stuck on a word:
Prompt: Look at the pictures and tell them the
correct word. The easiest part is
Praise: your child’s efforts at any time during
reading. Most of all make reading a fun time with
you.
If you would like more hints on helping your child at
home visit the web page below.

school to take part in structured playtime.

vehicle, please note the following:

lunch or recess.
If you are allowing your child to bring their
car, please sign the attached note.
All vehicles and controllers are brought in at
their own risk. We cannot be responsible for
