Dates for your Diary
Student wellbeing is strongly linked with student engagement. When visiting the K-2 classrooms I was impressed with how interested and motivated students were in their learning and how articulate they were when explaining the task. What I observed was high expectations set by teachers resulting in learning that was meaningful, engaging and motivating. From learning about aspects of sound in Year 1, to deep understanding of numbers in Kindy. In Year 2 lots of reading and research is happening on wombats. I read lots of entertaining descriptions full of alliteration as well as information reports and was fortunate enough to join students as they composed multimodal texts using Keynote. This is just a small snapshot of the many engaging learning experiences students are experiencing each day. NAPLAN We wish all our Year 3 and Year 5 students good luck for NAPLAN which began yesterday with writing. All tests are online with the exception of the Year 3 writing task. The assessments conclude next week. Attendance Regular attendance at school is essential in helping students maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents/carers, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. The Department’s Policy states that if a child is absent an explanation is to be provided to the school within two working days and if a child is absent for three or more consecutive days then a medical certificate is required. At Rose Bay Public School parents/carers can notify the school of an absence using the Sentral Parent Portal App. If this is not possible, please send an email to the school, phone the school or send in a written notification. All medical certificates need to be emailed to the school or a paper copy provided. Email: [email protected] More information on the Department of Education’s Attendance Policy can be found at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/policies/school-attendance-policy

Hold the date: 9 June, Olympathon This year the Sportathon is an Olympathon, in line with the Tokyo Olympics. Last week Mrs. Mills organised for the students to receive a motivational video message from an Olympian which the students enjoyed during their assembly. This event will raise money to go towards literacy resources for all students in the school. It is a great opportunity for parents/carers to connect with the school by volunteering to help on the day. See page 9 for more information. Staffing Last week we thanked Mrs. Marissa Krechman for her dedication and support of students and wished her well with her new family. We welcome Ms. Camilla Weiss to 4K and Ms. Jann Barry who will be joining Mrs. Jody Glen on 6G. 2022 Enrolments We are currently accepting enrolments for 2022. We are also accepting bookings for school tours which are taking place between 11 May and 10 August. Kindergarten stepped back in time...
In History we are
learning about what
school was like in the
past and we were lucky
enough to have a visit
from Robyn Bloom!
Robyn attended Rose Bay
PS many years ago and
taught us so many
interesting things!
“They used paper bags to carry
their lunch to school. Now we
have fancy lunchboxes!”
“We have iPads and smart
boards now!”
“School bags were like
suitcases! Now we have
bags with the RBPS badge
on them”
Year 6 students have been enjoying
literacy circles during guided
reading sessions. In groups, students
read a shared novel and share their
understanding of the text. Each
group member plays a vital role
during these thought-provoking
discussions. Literacy circles promote
collaborative learning, as well as the
benefits of reading rich literature.
"You can find magic wherever you look... All you need is a book." - Dr. Seuss

Sydney Coastal Cross Country Carnival On Wednesday 5th May – the Sydney Coastal cross-country carnival was held at Centennial Park. It was a new track for everyone and at times we had rainy conditions – but that didn’t stop the efforts of our runners. Everyone from Rose Bay PS performed very well and the behaviour of our students was outstanding.
Congratulations to Riley C, Noah S and Ezra N who performed so well (in the top 6 for their age group), they have been selected to represent Sydney Coastal Zone
at the Regional Cross Country Carnival.

Our Mother’s Day stall was a huge success! So many happy faces and kids choosing a gift for their special person, while raising money to go towards Year K – 6 Readers.
Thank you to our awesome volunteers who worked at the stall, and to the front office team and teachers who coordinated the roster for the classes. The day went so smoothly.
A special thank you to our suppliers:
Perfection Chocolates in Rose Bay for the delicious chocolates Star Promotional Products for the lovely Keep Cups The Wobbly House Soap Company for the gorgeous Bath Bombs & Shower Steamers
Our favourite comment of the day was from a KH child who when they finished
choosing their gift, waved goodbye to us all, and said “Thank you, I had a nice time”.
It means the world to the kids to see parents/carers helping out at school.
Save the date for our next P&C meeting on Tuesday 20th July. We look forward to seeing familiar faces, and welcoming new parents/carers to our meetings.

By participating in the 2021 Olympathon, Rose Bay students are aiming to have fun and raise funds for our schools Literacy Program. The event consists of 10 different sporting activities that each student will attempt to complete in a set period of time.
All students who raise $30+ will go into a lucky draw. Students who raise $100 or more will go into an additional draw for "extra special" prizes. There will be a major prize for the student who raises the most money. Thank you for supporting the Rose Bay Public School Olympathon!
