2013 Results: The Cannons swept the season series against the Hounds 2-0 but only by a combined

three-goal margin.

All-Time Series: The Hounds are 0-4 all-time against the Cannons.

The Cannons are the only team the Hounds haven’t beaten in their two seasons in the MLL, getting outscored 67-45 in four games. Faceoffs have been one of the Hounds’ weakest areas, as Chris Eck has

dominated the X, going 87-127 (68.5%) in the four matchups. The Cannons also lead in groundballs (134-104) and shots on goal (126-101). In addition, Jordan Burke has a 54.5 save percentage against the

Hounds. By comparison, Adam Ghitelman is only at 45.9% against the Cannons. While the Hounds have done a decent job of keeping Paul Rabil in check (averaging just 2.5 points per game), it has opened up

players like Mike Stone, who has registered a combined 10 goals and one assist against Charlotte. Meanwhile, Matt Danowski has averaged 3.75 points per game against the Cannons. Things between the two teams have gotten chippy, with a combined 18 penalty minutes. However, the Cannons have fared

far better (71.4%) on the man-up than the Hounds (14.3%).

HOUNDS

Last week the Hounds finally put together a complete

game, registering double-digit goals and playing shut

down defense to earn their first victory of 2014. The

game was delayed by two hours due to severe

thunderstorms in the area, but once the first faceoff

took place the Hounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead over

the Bayhawks. The Hounds never trailed in the game,

and only allowed the Bayhawks to pull within two

goals. Pierce Bassett stood tall in goal, making 10

saves on 17 shots. Meanwhile, Bayhawks goalie Kip

Turner had 17 saves on 28 shots.

Players To Watch

Tim Fallon (FO) – After a rough first outing, the FOGO has put together two solid performances to move his

win percentage up to 55%.

Mason Poli (LSM) – The second-year player made an immediate impact in his MLL return, recording a 2-

point goal, an assist and a groundball.

Brett Schmidt (D) – He has become the leader at close defense, with an aggressive, won’t give up attitude.

CANNONS

The Cannons have dropped two straight games after opening the year with a 15-9 victory over the

defending MLL Champion Bayhawks. However, both losses have been by just one goal, including last

week’s overtime thriller against the Outlaws. The Cannons struggled at the X, going just 9-23. They also were only 1-6 on the powerplay, but killed off both of the Outlaws’ man-up opportunities. Jordan Burke had

16 saves on 26 shots, including five in the fourth quarter to help force the overtime period.

Players To Watch

Kevin Buchanon (A) – In three games, the MLL veteran has tallied 12 goals, three times the Cannons

next highest scorer.

Brodie Merrill (D) – The six-time defensive MVP joined the team in an offseason trade, and currently

leads the team with 16 groundballs.

Jack Rice (A) – The rookie has tallied four goals over his first three MLL games, including two last week

against the Outlaws.

NOTEWORTHY – May 17, 2014

CORE FOUR: There currently are four players on the Hounds roster that have been with the

team since its inception in 2012 – Matt Danowski, Adam Ghitelman, Ryan Flanagan and Brett Schmidt. However, the team returned 16 players from the 2013 season.

GOING STREAKING: Ryan Young enters Week 4 riding a 21-game streak of recording at least

one point, dating back to Aug. 11, 2012 (including the postseason).

MILESTONE MOMENTS: Hounds rookie Thomas DeNapoli scored his first-ever MLL goal in his

debut against the Bayhawks last week.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT: With Loyola’s loss to Albany in the NCAA tournament last week, the

Hounds were able to activate draftees Justin Ward and Pat Laconi.

DINO-MYTE: Matt Danowski needs just six more goals to hit the 150 mark for his career

(including the postseason). The attackman also is just eight assists away from reaching 100.

POWER OUTAGE: The Hounds last week scored their first powerplay goals of the season, going

2-6 on man-up opportunities. However, their 20PP% ranks ahead of only the Rattlers at 12.5%.

In addition, the Hounds have a league-worst 44.44PK%.

TWO FOR YOU: The Cannons are the only MLL team yet to score a two-point goal. The Hounds

last week tallied their first of the season.

BIRTHDAY BOY: Ryan Young will celebrate his 25th birthday on the 22nd of this month.
