My object is paper fan which can be opened or closed. When it’s fully opened, it can be ideally seems a semicir-cle, so a protractor and a straight scale rule are used to meansure this object.

Bone & SKINPaper fan has a very strong characteristics. firstly, it is very elastic: because the surface of a paper fan is made of folded paper, It gives a large potential to increase the surface.
Secondly, no matter how a paper fan changed it’s shape, it’s always relates with curve.
Thirdly, is about bone & skin. In Chinese or Japanese history, the handle of paper fan usually made by tim-ber which is a common material with very strong abil-ity to stretch. The paper fan I got from store has a maximum open angle - 130 degree, if the angle is over 130 degree, the fan will be broken.

If we think about this semicircle shape more simplely, we can regards it’s just like radioactive rays that have lots of directions rather than always point on one direction.I think this kind of shape is more flexible and has more advantages than a regular shape. For example, a rectanglar desk will have sharp edges and people can only sit on four direction while people can sit wherever they like with a curve shape desk and can communciate more easily.

The mechanism inside the paper fan is very simple but useful. A similar theory is called “Torque”.By simlply apply a push or a pull force to rotate an object but still make them in balanced position, a twist force is developed through the action. There’s a little fixed connection in the paper fan’s structure, it helps to apply a equal force to both ends in order to make sure this paper fan can work correctly. Also, this theory can used in every deisgn of architectures area, even in fashion design as well.

How does this respond to your personal space?
SHELTER / INTROVERTS / COMMUNICATION / SILENCE
Sketch Design #2
THE MATERIAL PART OF TOP IS LIGHT AND SOFT WHILE THE BOTTOM
PART IS A KIND OF SHELTER THAT USING TRANSPARENT MATERIAL. BOTH
THESE TWO ELEMENTS ARE COMING FROM THE ORIGINAL SHPAE OF
PAPER FAN. THEY CAN OPEN WHEN PEOPLE FELL INVASED OR CLOSE
WHEN THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE.
A EASY SHAPDE MATERIAL WILL APPLE TO THIS SHAPE, AND
IT WILL FLOW WHEN PEOPLE WALKING. IT REPERSENTS THIS
PERSON WANTS HAVE COMMUNICATION.
THE SHELTER SHOWS THE SELF-BOUNDARY, PEOPLE PRO-
TECT THEMSELVES AGAINST INVASIONS.
