A note went home last week to inform parents of Seesaw, student work will only be shared with individual parents and parents will not be able to see other children’s work. Further on in our newsletter is an image that shows how much learning your child misses out on by just being 10 minutes late every day. (this equals 50 minutes a week, 1 ½ weeks a year and over 13 years of schooling this is almost half a year of lost learning time) All students must be signed in and out of the office if they are arriving late or leaving early. We ask that all visitors to our school, including parents and carers, report to the office. New building work Work on our new buildings is progressing nicely. The Kindergarten toilet block has been demolished and the area in the building parcel has been cleared. Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our Week 10 newsletter. Our students and teachers have had a wonderful week of learning.

Seesaw

All of our classes are now using Seesaw, which is a learning and assessment tool as well as a great form of parent communication engagement. I absolutely love seeing the engaging work that our classes are sharing on Seesaw each day. Next term we will be starting the parent engagement component of Seesaw. A note went home last week to inform parents of Seesaw, student work will only be shared with individual parents and parents will not be able to see other children’s work. If you do not wish your child to be involved in the parent engagement component please return the note by the end of next week. We will be starting to share individual student work with families from Term 2.

Collecting students early from school

Many students are being dropped of late and collected early from school. We ask that wherever possible, appointments are made outside of school hours. Students arriving or leaving mid-way through lessons are missing out on crucial learning.

New building work

Work on our new buildings is progressing nicely. The Kindergarten toilet block has been demolished and the area in the building parcel has been cleared. Over the holidays the hoarding will be going up around the front office, please remember to use our demountable administration office from Term 2.

Have a wonderful week and don’t forget to ask your child what they are learning.

Our school relies on these contributions to provide additional resources to ensure our students have the best possible learning opportunities and learning environment.

How Much? The voluntary contribution for 2019

is: $30 per family.

All money raised from these contributions will go directly towards the purchase of school resources and related technology, to enhance the teaching and learning across our schools.

To assist in the event of toileting accidents and spills, it would be appreciated if parents could keep a change of clothing, including socks and underwear, in their child’s bag. This will help to ensure your child is changed quickly as spare clothing is not always available from the office. On Wednesday 1st May, Prestons PS

will be holding an ANZAC Day ceremony at 1pm.

Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Students can bring flowers to place under the flag poles during

3 Jellyfish 3 Jellyfish have been working hard this term! We have been reading and writing about natural disasters, and have written some great stories about floods, fires, tornados or volcanoes. We have using these settings to help us become more creative and imaginative when writing stories.

We have also been hard at work with Daily 5, and have improved our stamina. This means we can read and write for longer periods of time without losing our focus. Way to go Jellyfish!

NAPLAN Online Newsletter 2019

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy development. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Between Tuesday 14 May and Friday 24 May 2019, our school will participate in NAPLAN Online. Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. Prestons Public School will be conducting a practice test for our Years 3 and 5 students on Wednesday 3 April 2019 in preparations for the actual tests in May.

To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
