IT’S SPRING!!! Well, not officially, but good enough! The daffodils are always my first sign, then the light ethereal pink blossoms on the plum trees! After that, Atlanta explodes in color and the gentle energy of Spring. Moods lift; the air is crisp and clear; life is GOOD! We appreciate the gardeners who spent last Saturday sprucing up our campus! Thank you! We are gearing up for a season of Celebration!! Glitter/Back to the Future is this weekend and I promise you…you do not want to miss this! 80’s band Mighty McFly will set the mood for the party of the year!! Auction items and great food will round out the evening! Grab your shoulder pads, leg warmers and Members Only jackets and join us Saturday night! This week we received a donation from a parent whose teen attends another school. After spending the day on our campus for the All Star game, he sought out Coach Richie Briggs to get a copy of the game video. Upon delivery of the video, he presented Richie with a check and the comment “this is a donation to your school. The tournament was very well run. You guys are a class act!” How cool is that! Of course, we work hard to do our best and the real kudos go to the countless volunteers from staff, parents and students, who are welcoming, efficient and intent on creating a smooth event! Thank you!! Yesterday’s Founder’s Day celebration was AMAZING!! I love the name change….not something Joe and I were comfortable with until now. But thirty years brings changes in attitude and we appreciate the significance of our new birthday name! Secondly, the sock hop party was the perfect way to celebrate this event. First, it is a Back to the Future theme this year. Secondly, Joe and I love to dance. And thirdly, sock hops are just plain FUN!! Staff and kids enjoyed the festivities! Thank you to all who participated in the planning and the execution! As is common when celebrating watershed moments, the memories of thirty years ago are sharp and powerful. I left the security of DeKalb County Schools while Joe continued his teaching job. Our tutorial center was thriving during the afternoon, evenings and weekends. The first week of The Cottage School, Monday through Friday, I sat at a desk with one student, Ken, and we moved through his tenth grade course work. We ate lunch together and took a break by Vickery Creek for some exercise. By the second week, tenth grader, Hugh, joined us. By April first, we added three more young men who spent their mornings in study carrols concentrating on academic work and our afternoons hiking trails or doing lab work for their science classes. It was a cozy group characterized by easy social interactions and teamwork. Joe would arrive after his school day was complete. He brought our two sons with him and together we finished up clerical tasks, supervised the tutors and cleaned the rooms in preparation for the next day. A year later we had hired another teacher and were on our way! Thank you for taking the time to return your re-enrollment contracts. We are deep into the planning for 2015-16 and knowing for whom we are planning makes a huge difference! I also want to thank you for participating in the parent survey. We pay close attention to the feedback we receive. We will publish a summary for you and we will present the results to our Board of Directors at our annual meeting in July.

Jacque’s Note
Announcing New Executive Director of School
March 11, 2015
Dear Members of The Cottage School Community,
It is our great privilege to announce Steven Palmer as TCS’s new Executive Director of School effective
June I, 2015. Mr. Palmer’s appointment comes at the end of an extensive and highly competitive ten-
month search led by our own Search Committee.
During the in-depth interview process, Steven’s energy and enthusiasm for our school and mission were
evident to all; his passion for education and the empowerment of the individual student was abundantly
clear in his credentials and references. His warm personality, clear compassion and dedication to
helping young adults reach their full emotional, social and academic potential made him a clear choice.
During these past thirty years, The Cottage School has been founded and guided under the exceptional
leadership of Jacque and Joe Digieso. We are confident that Steven will build upon the foundation laid
by Jacque, Joe and the Strategic Plan. The Cottage School has selected a dynamic new leader who will
also assert our emergence as a leading educational school that focuses on educating the whole child.
Please join us in celebrating and welcoming Steven and his fiancé, Nicole. We are delighted that they
are joining The Cottage School family. Steven will work closely with the Board of Directors, Jacque and
the schools’ leadership team as he becomes more familiar with the school. We look forward to
welcoming Steven and Nicole into our community in the coming months beginning with a parent
reception to be announced in April.
Yours in Education,
The Search Committee

Campus Beautification Thank you to all who turned out for campus beautification on Saturday. We're in for a week of warmer
weather which is sure to help our new plants by the gym entrance get a healthy start. The archery and
outdoor classroom area clean-up was also continued along with the area
around the pond and the raised beds. Thanks to 'Team Rise Up' from the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce
for coming out to assist with the cleanup in preparation for their upcoming projects in these areas. Watch for info about our TCS Garden Party that is
coming soon! Thank you to the people who came out to help - Jake Barber, Amelia Staid, Cameron Hood-Cree, Ian Walters, Ethan Brown, Mike and Mollie Staid, Robert and Christy Hood-Cree, Debbie McGee and Ella Rogers. Thanks also to our TCS staff and family members - Chad, Nathan, Ali, daughter Maggie and Laura. And if you are doing yard work at home, two things…please save the potting
containers that are 1 gallon or larger. You can drop them off at the middle school office or the admin office. And if you are splitting or thinning your plants, would you consider donating these to TCS? Email
[email protected] with any questions.
Have We Heard From YOU?

This year, if you complete the survey and print out the confirmation page, your
