Mr. Schmucker graduated from Cornell University and received an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Busi- ness. October Photography Exhibit by Jack Ahearn at The Library Amherst Town Library AMHERST – Jack Ahearn’s Im- ages presented by the Friends of the Library include early photo- graphs dating from his initial inter- est in photography as a fine artist, and extend to photographs made this year in the White Mountains. Photographs taken in Amherst, but other areas of New England, Virgin- ia, Colorado, Newfoundland, and Death Valley will also be shown. e public is invited to meet with Jack at his reception, to be held on Sunday, October 10th from 2 to 4 pm at the Amherst library. Jack’s earliest recollection of a sustained interest in photography dates from his college experiences where he had opportunities to take several workshops with master photogra- phers. After college and graduate school in physics, he pursued a ca- reer in scientific research, making photographs on occasion over the years. In the last eight years he has devoted a substantial and focused effort to create fine art photographs. He has pursued additional train- ing in photography with leading photographers at the Maine Pho- tographic Workshops and the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Recent recognition of his work has come through the Sharon Art Gallery ju- ried exhibitions, the Golden Light Awards competition and inclusion in e Gallery at Hallmark’s jur- ied art show. Jack uses landscapes and still lifes as the basis for his im- ages and crafts each print so that the final image creates a rewarding and pleasurable experience for the viewer. He works primarily with a 4x5 view camera, recording the im- age on film and developing individ- ual negatives in a wet darkroom. He has produced silver prints in a tradi- tional wet darkroom for many years and, in addition, he now uses digi- tal techniques to craft the images recorded on film and prints them using an inkjet process. e silver and inkjet print processes each of- fer their own individual expressive possibilities. SHS Student Gives Back with “SacAttack” AMHERST – A Souhegan High School junior, John Cicci, decided he wanted to do something for fi- nancially disadvantaged elementary and middle school students in Hill- sborough County. With the launch of “SacAttack,” Cicci set a goal of purchasing fifty fully supplied back- packs by the end of the summer. Go- ing door to door, calling on neigh- bors and local businesses to raise the money in order to put together fully supplied backpacks, Cicci ex- ceeded his goal by acquiring sixty- two backpacks to give to area stu- dents. e Amherst area public donated over $2000 worth of school materi- als. e backpacks included many items necessary for a student to be prepared for the school year. Items such as pencils, pens, markers, cray- ons, pencil sharpeners, erasers, notebooks, scissors, binders/folders, glue, rulers, and construction paper filled the backpacks. John Cicci is an active and com- mitted public servant having earned about 38 hours of community ser- vice from this fundraiser. Add this to his already logged 306 hours, Cic- ci has far exceeded expectations. He continues to give back to the com- munity frequently, and he remains a responsible citizen in the town of Amherst.
