Wedding Reception: Traditional to Trendy Shafeeka Basheer , Dammam

Weddings are very important occasion in one’s life, after all it is the celebration for the life time commitment. Marriages in Islamic world are accompanied by Islamic practices as specified in the Quran.

In olden days, Wedding reception is conducted in Bride’s home. Friends and relatives attend the function and share the pleasure. On the day of marriage, the house will be decorated with lights, balloons and flowers. Foods along with juice, sweets, dry fruits and refreshments will be served with love prepared by family members. As per their religious beliefs and tradition, ceremonies will be performed for the couple by the elders in the family. Every one dressed well, joy and cheers seen everywhere. Gifts will be given to couples in humble manner. A photographer takes the pictures and videos to cherish as the memory forever. In short, weddings were the mere union of two families and gatherings.

Trendy reception focusses the couple as the celebrity or the ambassador of their wealth and social media as the distribution channel posting pictures on Facebook WhatsApp Instagram and so on. With modern receptions, there are no restrictions, the couples choose the theme, venue, menu, foods also. Trendy reception takes place mostly in big restaurants, resorts, garden, beach, and gallery or anywhere they can afford.

Well, we live in the era where couples personalize their weddings as per their preferences and desires. Old traditions are abandoned saying outdated practices in few countries. While in few countries, traditional ceremonies are followed with modern touch and symbols. Trendy receptions take over the traditional ones as people advance with science and technology. Whichever you choose, for wedding reception keep it memorable and fun filled by sharing art of love and happy expressions. Wedding receptions are indeed the biggest party of a lifetime in ones life!

Keys to a happy married life for newlywed couples Ruba Farooqui, Al Khobar

Marriage is an incredible blessing and a divine sign. Allah says in the Quran “And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought?” (Quran: Chapter 30, Verse 21). What does it take to stay happily married and enjoy the being of togetherness in this life and the life hereafter, well its really simple: Love each other for Allah’s sake – obedience of Allah is the basis and center point of

every strong relationship. Be grateful to each other – keep appreciating your spouse’s support, make them feel

relevant and the important part of life as Allah says in the Quran: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you (in favor), but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.” (Quran: Chapter 14, Verse 7).

Communicate like best friends – tell each other about their day activities, crack jokes, laugh, share ideas, flirt and complement each other, respect their right to hold different opinion and learn from each other’s opposing point of view.

Never lose focus of each other’s primary needs and be the comfort of eyes. Marriage makes people partners, not parts of each other that must be controlled and bossed over. Be that amazing person who motivates, encourages and helps your spouse to be a source of joy and mercy to the world. Manage time for each other – no matter what, and fight the real enemies – ego, evil eye and shaytan. Sense each other’s stress and be conscious of Allah during the times of conflict, remember that Allah choses spouses for us not to test us but to help us purify and improve our own selves.

Destination Weddings Neda Ashraf,Dammam

Destination wedding is a totally unique experience and surely is in the trend these days. When it comes to weddings then the sand and beach venues are at the top of the list for many couples. They love to exchange their vows on a sandy beach rather than a local community venues or homes. Every married couple goes through the agony of making a wedding guest list. Should they invite the second cousins or the first one only, should all the colleagues be invited, who to leave. All too often the list goes out of control and it becomes a chaos of mind. But with destination weddings you are sure that only the close ones will be attending your wedding, who really want to be close to you and see you on your wedding day. Exchanging vows at a destination is the best way to trim your 300 person guest list to 80 approximately pretty easily and effortlessly. There will be many guests who would be willing to attend but might not have a passport, some have to check on their child's school or their Jobs, and some have to move mountains to be there. But once they make it there. It’s Voilà for them!! Once all this drama is over. Who is attending the wedding, who is not? And you are at the resort sitting at the edge of the pool with your favorite Mocktail in your hand and seeing all the people who have made it to your wedding, just to be with you on your day. You will feel the love and support of your family and friends forever. And your day will be yours. The wedding can be combined with a family reunion and it is the perfect opportunity for a romantic holiday for your guests.

Asians are very close with families and proud of their cultures. This includes following of their old generations’ traditions in their weddings. There are three main races in Malaysia which are the Malays, Chinese, and Indian with no exception of the rituals. Below are some traditions which still exist till today.

1. Malaysians wedding differs depending on either the bride and groom come from Malay race, Chinese, Indian, or others. The Malays have 2 wedding for each couple. The first one is organized by the bride’s family, while the second one by the groom’s family. The second one is a symbol to welcome the bride into the groom’s family. They serve Malay traditional cuisines like Nasi Minyak (rice cooked with ghee and all), Rendang (typical Malay’s dish with brown coloured gravy, cooked with either chicken or beef), and Malay’s sweets and desserts.

ASIAN WEDDINGS AND TRADITIONS

Elitian Times – Wedding Bells 10

2. The Chinese everywhere have the same culture. They have one wedding ceremony and the unique thing is the tea ceremony where they bride and groom will serve Chinese tea to the older generation in their families. The bride and groom will be awarded ‘angpow’ or red Chinese envelope which contains lots of money for them to start their new life. Chinese family members often present the couple with gold accessories.

3. The Indian have unique ceremonies depending on which part of India they are originally from. But overall, the bride and groom need to circle around the fire in the middle of everyone as a symbol they are getting married. They are all very rich with festival looks, music and great spread of Indian tradition food and cuisines, they dance, lots of lights, and very exclusive, similar with the one in India itself.

Basic Skin Care Kit Zehra Zahid, Beauty Expert If your big day is almost here, you should be following a good skincare regimen. A basic skincare kit should include Vitamin C and today, I would like to introduce Hyaluronic Acid to you all. Hyaluronic Acid Serums are dubbed as the new fountain of youth because of its healing properties. It is found naturally in the skin as well and applying it under your moisturizer or slightly damp skin increases the amount of moisture that your skin can absorb tenfold.

A lot of brands carry hyaluronic acids and you may have to use and see which one suits you as what may work for one person may not work for the other. You can also choose a moisturizer that includes this ingredient. You can apply this serum once daily. Along with monthly holistic facials and a good skincare routine, you will look amazing on your wedding day as a bride and retain your looks for a very long time, so take care of what God has given you.

Stress before marriage

No doubt marriage is a major change in one's life, whole life changes with a simple signature. And in such a condition “stress” to a certain level is quite normal. Coming to our sub continental stereotypes which are implanted through dramas and novels, it grows higher as the moment reaches.

So, what to do? For every gender, it is the day we are waiting for long. Happiness, fear, and excitement all are the stressors that can cause a panic condition. Look at your stressors wisely and identify how much they are realistic? If some are beyond your control then just throw them out of your mind. Regretfully most of the couples don’t get any guidance in this regard. This Holy relation is something more than physical pleasure. Watching ideal body figures for the groom and bridegroom on social media is another big problem. Most girls and boys are more concerned with their looks than reality. This is the bond of acceptance and empathy blended with deep love, so think before you choose your life partner. Start morning walk, eat healthily, think positive and stay calm. Another big problem is the expected behavior and related stories to in-laws and wives on all kinds of media. Believe it or not, but 95% is a fabrication. Law of attraction says you attract what you believe in so, believing in the positive side of stories and minding our own business is the best strategy. Your mother-in-law is the one who delivered your husband/wife, so give space and respect to every relation. Be closer to your religion and learn about human rights and duties. If girls don’t know how to cook then join some cooking classes. It’s better to join any house management course around (no gender difference). It’s a joint venture and as the time is moving on so, everyone must be working, at home or outside. Get medical tests (compulsory for both), learn about the safe relationships. Most importantly sit with your grandparents as they will tell you the exact information which you can’t expect from your parents. Love your siblings, take part in all activities, groom yourself for your big day. Do remember that this relation is very simple and strong if you stay calm and unlock wisdom! Nowadays wedding planners have made this even more difficult. The biggest stressor I usually met during my counseling sessions after size zero is arrangement excellence. Everything must be perfect like it was in the new Bollywood movie. Remember! no one will curious about details except a few chosen ones. so, stop pushing yourself beyond your boundaries.

Relax, the thing which matters the most is a strong family connection. Sit and talk with happily married couples. Make realistic goals about your wedding. Learn relaxing exercises and be gentle to yourself.

From a religious perspective, here are some authentic ahadith:‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “The best marriage is one that is easiest.”

In another narration, the Prophet said, “The best dowry is one that is easiest. “Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 4163 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani

Ultimate Bridal Beauty Countdown Sadia Tajammal-Beauty Expert Al-Khobar To have Healthy and glimmering skin is a dream of every girl. Your diet and regular skin care can benefit you to fulfil this dream. Before wedding day girls should adopt some particular healthy habits to look fresh and beautiful on their big day. Diet is the top priority in your Clear Skin program. Skin care, or how you physically care for your skin, is also crucial. In The Clear Skin Diet we discuss types of products to use, the skin care routine and habits you need to develop, and products you want to avoid.

• A healthy and balanced diet with plenty use of fruits, vegetables, and sunflower seeds.

• Diet should have required minerals and vitamins. Broccoli is full of many vitamins and minerals important for skin health, including zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C (20). Like sweet potatoes, bell peppers are an excellent source of beta-carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A.

• Plenty amount of liquid should be added. Take 8 to 10 glasses water per day including milk and fresh juices.

• During face wash don’t rub your face so hard. Use good face wash and apply with light circular motions.

• Always apply moisturizer after every face wash.

• Take monthly facials and use quality products for cleansing as per your skin texture. If you have major skin concerns like acne and uneven pigmentation, it’s best to get the situation under control well in advance.

• Do not squeeze your black heads and pimples otherwise scars will be there.

• Try to maintain proper sleep pattern to avoid dark eye circles.

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Maryam Hameed Jubail, Saudi Arabia An intriguing young adult and teen novel, that takes romance- comedy to another level. Now a motion picture film, holding a teen choice award nominations, The Sun is Also a Star (novel) is an angst-filled story filled with positive themes drowned by racial slurs and sensitive conversations. The novel narrates two different points of view from the two main characters. Daniel, an American-Korean high school graduate struggling between what he wants to do for the rest of his life, and Natasha, an illegal immigrant from Jamaica whose life rests on a lawyer twenty-four hours before she and her family are yet to be deported. The book also narrates points of view of minor characters, and their past stories, indicating different experiences with fate and the universe. I would recommend this book teens ages 13-19 as it contains harsh language and some unsuitable content for children younger. Although, definitely a book if you're up for a good laugh and some tissues to be soaked.

I read a book about the Prophet Muhammad and Abu bakr as siddeq's relation ship so I wrote a book review about it. Prophet Muhammed grew up in an environment where a lot of evil was practiced but he ignored all that .He was well behaved and sincere to people. Later on he was chosen as the last Prophet and messenger of Allah. His job was to call people towards Islam. He made people find truth and justice. The people of Qureish were angry to see Islam spread. Abubakr was born two years after the birth of the Prophet. Abubakr had excellent manners. He was the best companion of the Prophet. Abubakr lived in the same neighborhood as the Prophet then they became best companions. When Abubakr accepted Islam, both of them cared about each other. The Qureish were not happy, they wanted to kill the Prophet. So when the Prophet heard about their plan, him and Abubakr went to Madinah. When they saw the Qureish they were hiding in a cave for three days. Then they left. Many people in Madinah were waiting for their arrival. Later they settled in a town of Madinah. They had many battles to fight but the Muslims won and Abubakr always stayed close to the prophet. After one year Abu bakr and the Prophet went to perform Hajj. When they came back the Prophet felt sick. Abubakr was very worried about him. After the Prophet passed away Abubakr was selected as the first caliph. Umar bin Al khatab helped him a lot. When Abubakr was about to pass away he chose Umar as the next caliph. The nation was very sad to lose Abubakr. Abubakr was a very nice man and he always took the right decisions so we should follow him. As he once said never bargain for your faith.

Winter Fair

My school decided to have a winter fair, so me and my friends thought of attending it. We planned our outfits a few days before the fair. On the day of the fair, I woke up, did my morning routine, had breakfast and got ready. My mom prepared a strawberry cheesecake for the stall of our teacher. I went to school and met my friends there. There were many people and a lot of things to do there like play games, eat food, watch a movie and other things. We first bought tokens, because if we don't have tokens we can't really do anything. We talked for a while and then one of our friends suggested that we go and listen to music. They were playing our favorite songs, so that was fun. We bought tickets to watch a movie and waited until they played it. Finally, they announced that they were playing the movie, so we went inside of theatre and got seated. Since it was a horror movie, everyone was screaming a lot and then there was me, who was laughing at the sight of my friends' terrified faces. When the movie was over we went outside the theatre and ate food. We bought roses for our moms and even popped a party popper. At last it was time to leave so we said our goodbyes to each other and went home. All I can say about that day is that it was fun and memorable.

ILLITERACY Safa Imran Grade-10 "There are worse than burning books. One of them is not reading them" -JOSEPH BRODSKY Illiteracy means inability to read and write. Illiteracy is a curse because it is illiteracy that lowers down human being to the level of beast. Poverty is the main cause of illiteracy and vice versa. Similarly undevelopment causes illiteracy as much the same way illiteracy is the cause of undevelopment. Other than that there are many reasons that cause illiteracy like: illiteracy among parents, lack of family support , lack of affordable education facilities, poverty, or sometimes Socially barriers such as restrictions on girls' education in some societies lead illiteracy among the effected segment of the population. How does illiteracy affect the life of an individual and the society? Well, illiteracy generates hundreds of problem. because of illiteracy , people don't know how to earn well and how to spend well. An illiterate person leads a difficult life in so many ways. The inability to find gainful employment can subject one to a life of poverty with poor living conditions. illiteracy is a big problem in our society 'even though it does not seem like it. It is affecting our society drastically both socially and economically. People with lack of education tend to suffer from panic issues due to the fear of getting caught in situation.

Caught on camera Rahim Shahzad-Grade 8,Al khobar On April 2019, the Event Horizon Team took the first ever photograph of a black hole. The black hole is the m87 supermassive black hole at the center of the m87 galaxy. This was previously considered impossible, due to how far away and hard to see black holes are. The team used many telescopes around the world to capture this one image. It is a ground breaking discovery and validates decades of work about object we could not see. It is a true spectacle and one of many amazing thing about our universe. Scientists now have a new way of studying black holes that they have never had before, and this, according to the team, is just the beginning. The team next hopes to gather data on Sagittarius A, the black hole at the center of our galaxy, to study more about black holes.

Leaders bring revolution Speech in Toastmaster Contest Faiz Ali Hassan-Grade 6 A famous American Author and speaker John C Maxwell quoted

“A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way This world consist of two groups of people. One group see bad things happening around them and they think being an individual they cannot change anything. But another type of group raise their voice to change the system for the betterment of the people. So............Who are they??????????They are the Leaders. They make their voice strong enough to inspire and encourage other people. They bring revolution Leadership is not a rank, leadership is not a position, leadership is a decision, and leadership is a choice. To be a good leader you must have exceptional speaking qualities. For example we are having a group discussion of a company, and we are listening to an employee most of the time, it shows that he is talking with logics, facts , positivity and lots of motivation. So for a focused leadership you must be a good speaker who observes things keenly. A good leader create trusting teams, even if they are just small around him. He supports them, he helps them to rise through his revolutionary thinking and encouraging talks. He makes them realize that with team effort

“We can get the World that we imagine” History tells that behind every revolution there are many great leaders. Their thought provoking speeches brought revolutionary changes to people’s thinking against corrupt systems. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Ghandi, Martin Luther and Nelson were some of those powerful people who brought political revolution for their nations, so today they are remembered as great leaders. Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is considered one of the

greatest speeches in American history. Nelson Mandela—Speech at the Rivonia Trial expressed his passion for

the freedoms of the African people. Quide Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah historical speech in Lahore 1940

awakened the Muslims of India that they are separate nation and need another state where they can practice Islam freely.

I would recommend you all to read these speeches and many more. Do You know Imran Khan, The cricketer not the politician He once confessed that he couldn’t express his feelings properly in winning speech of the 1992 cricket World Cup because at that time he was not a good speaker. So when he decided to become a leader he worked on his communication skills by reading books and attending workshops and seminars. As a member of Pakistani youth it’s my responsibility to guide my fellows to raise their voices for equality and justice. Because we are Future of Pakistan. We have to make Pakistan brighter and stronger like

other developed countries.

As Nelson Mandela Said“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow”
