He’s been touring for 50years now and has releasedover 2 dozen albums; in 2017he was named Artist of the Yearby the American MusicAssociation-and this album isthe latestcollection of whatmakes him sodarn good. When an albumstarts off with asong like“Knockin’ On YourScreen Door” youknow you’re in fora great time-it’s alight up tempo country songdressed up in it’s finest attire,with vocals that remind me ofKris Kristofferson. Now somepeople might say that JohnPrine is just a cantankerous oldfart-well, those people are idiotsbecause John Prine is moreclever and relevant than they canimagine. His tongue-in-cheeklyrics have entertained fans fordecades; “Egg and DaughterNite, Lincoln Nebraska, 1967”is one such song that is alsoknown as “Crazy Bone”-I will notsay any more, you have to hearit for yourself to catch themeaning. As for some of theother songs “Summer’s End” isreminiscent of a Neil Youngsong (it’s beautiful, touching andsentimental) and “Caravan of

Fools” is l ike somethingJohnny Cash might have doneon his last albums. It ’s usual for John tosometimes get even quirkierthan his usual slant from timeto time, and he stretches outon “Lonesome Friends ofScience”, a song that shouldbe a big hit with “The Big Bang”cast and crew. John’s lyrics and music onthis album also have elementsthat make me think of BlueRodeo-and “Boundless Love”
