OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

A big thanks to all those who donated food and

turkeys for our Thanksgiving food drive.

Special thanks to Tony Jaccarino, Doug Hutchings

Sr. and Jim Riley for their very generous donation of

75 turkeys. Because of the tremendous generosity we

were not only able to feed 102 families but we also

had food to begin our Christmas food drive as well!

CHANGES FOR ADVENT There will be some minor changes in the way we

celebrate Mass during the Advent Season. We will

begin Mass with the Ministers entering either in

silence or just simple instrumental music.

The Celebrant will say a few words about the Advent

Wreath and then the appropriate candle(s) will be lit

as the Congregation sings “O Come, O Come

Emmanuel”.

During the Advent Season and throughout the new

liturgical year we will be highlighting Pope Francis’

call for a Jubilee Year of Mercy. We will be

reenacting the opening of the Holy Doors of the

Pope’s Church in Rome, St. John Lateran and the Ho-

ly Doors of St. Peter’s Basilica. These are very ornate,

beautiful and precious doors that are opened only for

very special occasions and were last opened in

2000. We will be decorating a church door, and we

will ask all of our people to gather in our Gathering

Space the weekend of December 12-13, the first

weekend after December 8th when the Jubilee Year of

Mercy begins. We will process through the Holy

Door of Mercy into the Church.

Turkey are also needed but due to very limited space

cannot be accepted until TUES., DECEMBER 22ND.

Thank you!

BEREAVEMENT

Working our way through grief is some of the

hardest work we will ever have to do. Realizing

that we don’t have to do it all by ourselves can be

life-affirming. One of the saddest realities about los-

ing a loved one, whether that is a person or a cher-

ished animal companion, is that friends and family

members tend to be finished with our grief long be-

fore we are done with our own need to talk about it.

That’s why it’s so important that we find

understanding, non-judgmental listeners with whom

we can openly acknowledge our reactions and expe-

riences, express and work through our pain, and

come to terms with what has happened to us.

Sharing our loss and pain, we help one another.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be offering a

bereavement group on Wednesdays at OLMC’s Par-

ish Center beginning on January 6th from 3:00pm to

4:30pm. Men and women from our sur rounding

parishes are certainly invited. It will be offered at

no charge. The group will be facilitated by Frank

Gawors, MS,LCSW. He holds a Master's Degree in

counseling from Iona College, and a Master's De-

gree in social work from Fordham University. He

has done individual and family counseling for 40

years and has recently retired from Hospice of

Orange and Sullivan Counties.

For more information Frank can be reached at

[email protected] or 342-4703.
