Eggleston Cup Final 2012 - Result & Match Report Played On: Sunday 16th September At Darlington Cricket Club
Middleton In Teesdale v Coundon
Middleton In Teesdale Captain, Graham Hutchinson won the toss and elected to field. Coundon started their innings and had to compete with some great bowling from Middleton In Teesdale, with Hutchinson, G Waller and R Watson keeping the scoring rate low and taking wickets at regular intervals, Hutchinson finished with the best figures of 3 for 36. Though with determined batting from Gnanavelu (33), Hardaker (30) & Tait (30) Coundon reached what they believed was a defendable total. Middleton In Teesdale started their innings and lost the wickets of Coatsworth and R Watson early which was always going to make the chase for runs difficult for Teesdale. Coundon’s bowling dominated as Hardy (3 for 28), J Tait (3 for 27) & D Hardaker (4 for 23), seen Middleton In Teesdale collapse to 106 Allout, with only D Watson (37) top scoring for Teesdale. In the presentation speech Steve Gill (Competition Organiser) stated that although the weather had been a major factor this season, it was great to see two teams reach the final for the first time, and playing the game in the true spirit that all games should be played. Steve, introduced Gloria Howells (Darlington CC – Committee Member) who would be presenting the cup to the winning captain. Thanks was given to Darlington CC for continuing to run and host the semi finals and final, to SG Petch for their continued sponsorship, to the umpires Ian Burgess and Martin Vickerman, Scorers Dave Garth & Stuart Parsley, Sue Bentley for providing excellent teas for the players, Gloria & Paula for running the refreshments bar and finally to Dave Bentley (Groundsman) for preparing yet again a superb playing surface at Darlington CC. Aidan Tait Captain of Coundon was asked forward to receive the SG Petch Eggleston Cup from Gloria Howells. Aidan re-iterated his thanks to everyone who helps make this competition such a great competition to win.
