Chemistry: “the science that deals with the composition and properties of substances and various elementary forms of matter.” (2)

What is a Experiment and why are they done?

An Experiment can be broken down into the Scientific Method. An Experiment is the implication of the Scientific Method. They are done so that scientists can draw conclusions about the world around them.

This task may be daunting at first, but it will sharpen your research and hypothesis making skills. It will also open your eyes to many reliable sources for science (chemistry) online, as well as let you build teambuilding skills while you work with your peers (groups of 3)!!

Your goal will be to research a topic of your choice (related to chemistry). This topic should have to do with a problem that is chemistry related or either a study being done related to chemistry. Then set up a hypothetical hypothesis and experiment regarding your topic. From this you ultimate goal should be to “solve” the problem or “conclude” the study.

Hopefully this project will be a success

1. Divide into Groups2. Select a Topic from any numerous research topics. Use these periodicals for the most

updated information (feel free to get other periodicals approved by the teacher for use). Then summarize the topic in your groups own words.

*Remember to always cite your source*

The ProcessThe Process

3. Create a Hypothesis (a proposition assumed as a premise in an argument.(5))4. Create support for the hypothesis by either using your text book or researching on the internet. Try infohio.org (or any other state wide funded educational site).5. Use the following site to set up a report! http://staff.gps.edu/McConnell/Toolbox/labreport.htm

This lab report should be set up as hypothetical (That is if the experiment would come into play). No need to create any graphs. The Conclusion in the report should only be hypothetical and based off your research.

Goggles, Aprons, Closed Toe Shoes, AVOGADRO!

I hope you all enjoyed this project and learned a little bit out the science in the world around us! At this time I (the teacher) will select the best lab report and present those students will be awarded an extra bonus point!

Maybe in the future you will be able to use this knowledge from this hypothetical project/experiment to create a real experiment and truly impact the chemistry community!!!
