Webinar Global Trends on the Status of Traffic Safety Under the Covid-19 Pandemic" 29 September, 2020 Doha, Qatar This webinar discusses the outcomes of the last 10 years of international efforts led by the United Nations, the World Health Organization and many multisectoral partnerships to mitigate road traffic causalities and push to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal of reducing deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes by 50%. Since we are approaching the end of the 2011-2020 Decade of Action for Road Safety, it is insightful to look back, measure achievements and identify challenges. Brig. Eng. Mohammed Abdullah Al Malki General Secretary, National Traffic Safety Committee, Government of Qatar

Brig Mohd Abdullah Al-Malki is a professional road safety, traffic enforcement and traffic management expert. He has over 35 years of experience in road planning, traffic policing, road safety management and transport sectors. He is an active member in professional organizations and has in-depth exposure to international best practice through participation at various conferences, workshops, training sessions and leading specialized teams at local and international levels. He has established strong connections and reputation within the Government and GCC countries. Brig Al Malki is representing the National Traffic Safety Committee of Qatar with UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) since April 2016. Under the supervision of Brig Al Malki, Qatar has won the prestigious global award “HRH Prince Michael of Kent” and “CIHT International Projects Award” for Road Safety and Sustainable Transport Management in 2019. Currently Brig Malki is overseeing the implementation of the second stage of National Road Safety Strategy Action Plan 2018-2022.

Dr. Meleckidzedeck Khayesi Technical Officer, World Health Organization (WHO) (https://www.who.int/violence_injury_prevention/about/whos_who/khayesi/en/)

Dr. Meleckidzedeck Khayesi is currently a technical officer in the Department of Social Determinants of Health at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland. He joined WHO in March 2002, after being a lecturer at Kenyatta University for 11 years. He facilitates development, implementation and evaluation of road safety programmes in countries and road safety capacity development. Dr Meleckidzedeck Khayesi was born in Vihiga District, Kenya. He is a human geographer with a Bachelor of Education degree (1988), a Master of Arts Degree in Geography (1992) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Transport Geography (1999). The three degrees were done at Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya. He has extensive research experience in road safety and transport.

Susanna Zammataro Director General, International Road Federation (IRF) Geneva, Switzerland - www.irfnet.ch

In her capacity as Director General of the International Road Federation (IRF) in Geneva, Switzerland, Susanna Zammataro is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the organization. Established in 1948, IRF is a membership-based organisation, whose mission is to promote the development of roads and road networks that enable access and sustainable mobility for all (www.irfnet.ch). Recently named as one of the 40 Most Remarkable Women in Transport by TUMI, Susanna is un untiring advocate for road safety. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the FIA High Level Panel on Road Safety and serving since 2012 as the Co-Chairperson of the “Safer Roads and Mobility” Pillar of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration Group (UNRSC), a global multi-stakeholder partnership whose aim is to facilitate international cooperation and to strengthen global and regional coordination.

Prof. Eng. Geetam Tiwari MoUD Chair Professor, Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme & Civil Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi), Co-Chair of Traffic Safety Analysis and Policy Special Interest Group in the World Conference on Transport Research Society WCTRS

Geetam Tiwari is MoUD Chair Professor for Transport Planning at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Delhi. She obtained Master of Urban Planning and Policy, and Ph.D. in Transport Planning and Policy, from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She has received the degree of Doctor of Technology honoris causa from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in 2012. She has been Adlerbretska Guest Professor for sustainable urban transport at the Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden 2007-2010. She has been working in the area of traffic and transport planning and traffic safety focusing on pedestrians, bicycles and bus systems. She has worked with city, state and national government in India on public transport and road safety projects. She has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals, has co-edited four books on transport planning and safety. She is editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Injury Control and Safety Promotion since 2009. She is on the editorial board of Journal of Transport and Health and IATSS Journal. She continues to be on the Board of IATSS forum and LEAD India, independent director on the board of Urban Mass Transit Company.

Dr. Eng. Wael Alhajyaseen Associate Professor at Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center, Qatar University / Chair of Traffic Safety Analysis and Policy Special Interest Group in the World Conference on Transport Research Society WCTRS

Dr. Alhajyseen is currently Associate Professor at Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center in the College of Engineering of Qatar University. He received the Doctor of Engineering degree in civil engineering from Nagoya University in 2010. He is specialized in traffic safety (human factors, crash data and causality, driving simulation), urban traffic control & operation, road user behavior analysis (including naturalistic driving), non-motorized traffic especially pedestrians and cyclists (facilities design, control and operation), and Intelligent transportation systems. He is the Chair of the Traffic Safety Analysis and Policy Special Interest Group of the World Conference on Transport Research Society WCTRS. Currently, Dr. Alhajyaseen is the representative coordinator of Qatar University in the coordinators group of the National Traffic Safety Committee of the State of Qatar to follow up the implementation of the National Traffic Safety Strategy 2013-2022. Furthermore, Dr. Alhajyaseen is the lead developer and the manager of the Traffic Safety Professional Training Program at Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center, Qatar University. Since January 2016 and through this program, eleven training courses were conducted with more than 210 participates of senior engineers and road safety practitioners from governmental institutions and engineering consultancy companies, not only from the State of Qatar but also from the region and the world. Dr. Alhajyaseen has been conducting internationally sound research in the areas mentioned above, which led to publications in well-reputed international peer-reviewed journals (>40) and conferences (>50). As a recognition of his performance, Dr. Alhajyaseen has received the Research Excellence Award from the College of Engineering of Qatar University for the Academic Year 2018/2019. Moreover, he received several regional and international awards for his contribution in the field of Traffic Engineering such as the International Yasoshima Yoshinosuke Prize provided by the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies in 2009.
