DWIGHT SCHOOLTIMOTHY HOUSE

SUMMER READING 2017

First Grade into Second Grade

Reading over the summer reinforces language arts skills and encourages children to become

life-long learners.

Please assist your child with his/her summer reading and summer reading activities.

Dear Parents:

Please use the attached list to choose some “just right” books for your child. Some books will be appropriate for students to read independently. However, we encourage the majority of summer reading to be shared with family members in an effort to support comprehension, and most importantly the love of reading. Have fun reading with your child this summer!

Best,

The Second Grade Team

Dear Students,

We are so excited to be teaching you next year! Please look at the list of books, and read as many as you would like. Please write down the title, author, and rating of each book you read on the “Books I Read” sheet. Please also do one of the following assignments.

Draw a map of where the story is set.

Write a short story about what the character(s) would be doing one year later.

Choose two books. Choose a character from each book. Write a paragraph telling why these two characters would get along and be friends.

Redesign the front cover page of a book that you read. Then, write a paragraph that explains the changes you made and why you made them.

Happy Reading,Your Second Grade Teachers
