THE ROLE OF RESEARCH WITHIN NORDOFF ROBBINS

Research is important to Nordoff Robbins because it provides a means of better understanding the range of music-centred work we do, so that we can improve practice and delivery for our beneficiaries. In addition to a variety of research projects, creation of resources and contribution to teaching, a key part of the research team’s responsibility is service evaluation and impact assessment.

ROLE SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF JOB

The Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant coordinates and carries out several of the evaluation and impact assessment activities of the research team. The work includes communicating directly with our music therapists, collating numeric and text data, developing engaging representations of data, and creating reports. Attention to detail in project planning and data analysis are essential, as are experience with numeric data and spreadsheets and an awareness of data protection issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

Undertaking specific service evaluation duties

To coordinate service evaluation projects including:

o communicating with NR music therapistso collating numeric and text datao collecting and clearly filing consent forms and other associated paper worko developing engaging representations of datao creating reportso keeping records of progress of all service evaluation projectso keeping research team up to date with progress

To ensure a high level of efficiency in these activities, as directed by the Head of Research and the Director of Music Services (Education, Research and Quality Assurance)

To contribute to reviews of the evaluations system.

Developing research and evaluation skills

To develop your own data analysis skills by taking opportunities to learn from colleagues To participate actively in research team seminars and workshops To participate in research project development To demonstrate your own continuing professional development

General administration and communication
