2019 Scholarship Application

Dear Scholarship Applicant: The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Theta Chi Omega Chapter are pleased to offer scholarships to high school students residing in the following school districts: Grand Rapids Public Schools, Forest Hills, Kentwood, East Grand Rapids, Grandville, and Wyoming who demonstrate academic excellence and perform community service projects in our area. We invite eligible students to complete the following application and submit it online (preferred), electronically, or by mail Friday, March 15, 2019 by 11:59 pm.

Levels of Awards: Graduating Seniors: Laptop computer High School Students 9-12: Tuition support up to $500 for summer academic, music, technology, arts, travel

programs/camps

Eligibility 9-12th grade student in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, Forest Hills, Kentwood, East Grand Rapids, Grandville,

and Wyoming school districts. 2.75 cumulative GPA Evidence of contribution to the school/community Acceptance to a 2-year, 4-year college or university or career and technical education program; acceptance to

a tuition-based academic/arts/travel summer program Required Materials Checklist

Typed Completed Application (application automatically adds your text) High School Transcript (electronic or official sealed) A copy of your acceptance to higher education institution)/summer academic or arts program brochure Attach or email a digital or color photo to [email protected] A typed essay of no more than 650 words that addresses the following topic:

Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma- anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
