The Remnant School of Ministry Student Manual Letter from our President Dear Student, We here at Mercy Seat Ministries want to welcome and congratulate you for choosing to be a part of The Remnant School of Ministry! This experience will be a life-changing, spirit-stirring, world-rocking and nation-shaking event in your life. You will also be molded, shaped, stretched, crushed and directed in ways to better serve the Lord. When you enter The Remnant School of Ministry, you will elevate to a place where you are continuously being watched. Not only will other pastors and I be watching, but so will the church and any group of people where we may be ministering. You must conduct yourself in a fashion that is above reproach. Remember that the way you worship and the truth that you put into it will be imitated by others. That means that even when you’ve come into a service tired, or if for some reason you don’t feel like it, you must put your best effort forth, die to self, and set an example that a true worshiper would portray. Apart from the personal goals each of you has made, one of the primary focuses of this program is to enhance your capability to be continuously maturing as a man or woman of God. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to learn how to be an armor bearer. In this program, you will see great moves of God, experience the evangelistic style of ministry, as well as learn what it means to be an armor bearer. By the time you arrive for the term, you are expected to have read John Bevere’s Undercover and we strongly suggest you also read both volumes of Terry Nance’s God’s Armor Bearer and form an opinion of what it means to be an armor bearer. You are also required to have this on paper and to submit it to the office staff. The team of interns will be expected to build a trust-based relationship with one another for accountability purposes as well as to be strong and faithful armor bearers. One of the main reasons that we require such an open and trusting relationship is to help each other in times of need and to be there to pick each other up if we should stumble. If we are able to build a strong relationship together, it will increase our ability to foresee a problem before it

The Remnant School of Ministry Student Manual

Letter from our President

Dear Student,

We here at Mercy Seat Ministries want to welcome and congratulate you for choosing to be a part of The Remnant School of Ministry!

If we are able to build a strong relationship together, it will increase our ability to foresee a problem before it may arise. This will also help stop someone when they are stumbling and keep him or her from falling.

Again, we are so excited to have you here. Throughout this semester, you will see new things and experience God like never before. Prepare yourself for the most enduring adventure you’ve ever been on!

Declaring It to the Next Generation,

Drs. Patrick H. & Karen Schatzline President of The Remnant School of Ministry

Definition:“The Remnant School of Ministry is a non-denominational, educational instrument devoted to equipping and training the ministers of tomorrow.” - Dr. Patrick H. Schatzline.

According to Webster’s dictionary, a “Remnant” is a person who goes before or announces the coming of another. It is also an indication of the approach of something or someone.

School History:Gideon’s Army was established by Mercy Seat Ministries, Inc. in 1998 by Drs. Pat and Karen Schatzline. The school started as an internship designed to raise up next generation leaders. As the vision of Mercy Seat grew, more and more students came with the call of God on their lives.

In the fall of 2001, the program changed from Gideon’s Army to The Forerunner School of Ministry; a program designed to rise up men and women of God who are called into the full-time ministry with education, ministry training, and on the job experiences. As the vision continue to grow and expand, the program once again changed from the Forerunner School of Ministry to Remnant School of Ministry

The Remnant School of Ministry offers pastoral certification and licensing through Global University. Students also have the option to do their schooling through Beacon University, which offers grants and loans when enrolled as a full-time student. Through Beacon University, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are offered. There is more information enclosed.

This manual contains current information regarding purpose and objectives, education, teachings and sermons, financial information, rules and regulations, and diploma requirements of The Remnant School of Ministry.

The Heart of a Servant

The Remnant School of Ministry is primarily based around the heart of a servant. Jesus came not to be served but to serve and that is our agenda at all times. While a part of RSOM, you will learn what it means to be a servant as you will be given serving opportunities that will cultivate the very basis of ministry in your heart. Ministry is simply serving people for God’s glory by His strength. He will empower you for the work of His ministry. The following describes the Heart of a Servant:

When you are forgotten or neglected or purposely set at naught and you don’t sting and burn with insult but your heart is happy being counted worthy to suffer for Christ... That is DYING TO SELF!

When your good is evil spoken of, when your wishes are crossed, your advice disregarded, your opinion ridiculed, and you refuse to let anger rise in your heart or even defend yourself, but take it all in patience, love and silence... That is DYING TO SELF!

When you lovingly and patiently bear any disorder and irregularity or annoyance; when you stand face to face with waste, folly, and extravagance, spiritual insensibility and endure it as Jesus endured...That is DYING TO SELF!

When you are content with any food, any offering, any climate, any society, and any interruption by the will of God...That is DYING TO SELF!

When you never care to refer to yourself in conversation or to record your own good words or pursue after commendations; when you can truly live to be unknown...That is DYING TO SELF!

When you can see your brother prosper and bare his needs met and can honestly rejoice with him in spirit and feel no envy or question God while your own needs are far greater and in desperate circumstances...That is DYING TO SELF!

When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself and can humbly submit inwardly, as well as outwardly, finding no rebellion or resentment rising up within your heart...That is DYING TO SELF!

Are you dead yet? In these last days, the Spirit would bring us to the cross‘That I may know him…being made conformable unto his death’ (Phil. 3:10)

Fundamental Truths

The Bible is Inspired: The Scriptures are God’s revelation of Himself to mankind The Word is infallible (never wrong) It is the divinely authoritative guide for our faith, belief and manner of living (2 Tim. 3:15-17, 1

Thess. 2:13, 2 Pet. 1:21)

One True God: He is the Creator of heaven and earth (Gen. 1:1) He redeems, saves and rescues mankind from sin and its painful consequences (Is. 43:19) God has revealed Himself as a single being (Deut. 6:4) One God being of three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19, Lk. 3:22)

The Lord Jesus Christ is Fully God: The Lord Jesus Christ has always existed (Rev. 1:8) He became human by being born of a virgin, conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matt. 1:23) He lived a perfect life, absolutely without sin (Heb. 7:26, 1 Pet. 2:22) He worked many miracles through the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:22, 10:38) He died on the cross as a substitute for our sins (1 Cor. 15:3, 2 Cor. 5:21) He was raised from the dead by the supernatural power of God (Matt. 28:6, Lk. 24:39) He is resurrected, has been exalted and is seated at the right hand of God (Acts 1:9, 11, 2:33)

The Fall of Mankind: Mankind was created good and upright Mankind, by willful choice, ignored God’s instructions by choosing wrong and evil Mankind incurred separation from God; both physical and spiritual death (Rom. 5:12-19)

The Salvation of Mankind: Salvation is deliverance from spiritual death and enslavement by sin God grants salvation for all who believe and accept His free offer of forgiveness Mankind’s only hope of redemption from sin is through the blood of Jesus Christ (Matt. 27)

Baptism in Water: Baptism by immersion in water is commanded (Mk. 16:16) All who repent and believe on Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord are to be baptized Baptism symbolically declares that the old sinful life of the believer died with Christ Baptism symbolically declares that a new spiritual being has been raised with Christ (Matt.

28:19, Mk. 16:16, Acts 10:47-48, Rom. 6:4)

Holy Communion: The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is a memorial of Christ’s suffering and death (1 Cor. 11:26) Our hearts must be right with God when we partake in Communion. The ordinance is a reminder to proclaim the Lord’s death “until He comes!”

Baptism in the Holy Spirit: All believers are entitled to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit Expect and earnestly seek for the promise of the Father

Page 8: remnantsom.comremnantsom.com/.../The-Remnant-School-of-Ministry-Stu…  · Web viewBy the time you arrive for the term, you are expected to have read John Bevere’s . Undercover

Being filled suggests the purging, cleansing action and seal of the Holy Spirit It follows the new birth experience (Acts 8:12-17, 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 15:7-9) It allows an overflowing fullness of the Spirit (John 7:37-39, Acts 4:8) It brings a deepened reverence for God (Acts 2:43, Heb. 12:28) It causes an intensified commitment to God (Acts 2:42) It offers a more active love for Christ, for His Word, and for unbelievers (Mk. 16:20)

Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit: The initial physical sign of being filled in the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in other

tongues (unlearned languages) as the Spirit of God gives them expression (Acts 2:4) The gift of tongues (1 Cor. 12:4-10, 28) operates publicly The gift is followed by the gift of interpreting the tongues The manifestation of tongues can be observed in every spirit-filled believer The audible expression of tongues should function in the believer’s prayer life

Sanctification: Sanctification is an act of separating ourselves from evil and identifying that which is good A process that takes place as Christians devote themselves to God (Rom. 12:1, 1 Thess. 5:23) Scriptures teach that we are to be holy because God is holy (1 Pet. 1:16) Without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Heb. 12:14) Living in holiness is possible by the power of the Holy Spirit Sanctification is a daily acknowledgement of our union with God through His Son Jesus Christians should offer every portion of their lives to the control of the Holy Spirit

The Church and Its Mission: The Church should consist of all people who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as the only

remedy for their sins The Church should include all Christians and have no boundaries as to age, race, gender, etc. It is the body of Christ, the dwelling place of God through the Holy Spirit Christ is the head of the Church The names of all true believers are written in heaven (Eph. 1:22-23, 2:22, Heb. 12:23)

The Ministry: Ministry involvement is response to a divine call and is ordained in the Bible Evangelization of the world (Mk. 16:15-20) Worship of God (John 4:23-24) Building a body of believers, conforming to the life of Christ (Eph. 4:11, 16)

Divine Healing: Divine healing from God is an integral part of the Gospel Deliverance from sickness is provided in the Atonement (Christ’s suffering and death) Healing is a privilege to all believers (Is. 53:4-5, Matt. 8:16-17, Jam. 5:14-16)

The Blessed Hope: All Christians who have died will one day rise from the grave and meet the Lord in the air Christians who have not yet died will be raptured, or caught up, with them to be with the Lord The Scriptural truth of the Lord’s soon return is “the blessed hope” (Rom. 8:23, 1 Cor. 15:51, 1

Thess. 4:16, Titus 2:13)

Page 9: remnantsom.comremnantsom.com/.../The-Remnant-School-of-Ministry-Stu…  · Web viewBy the time you arrive for the term, you are expected to have read John Bevere’s . Undercover

The Millennial Reign of Christ: The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of all Christians, which is our blessed hope

The Final Judgment: Anyone whose name is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his

angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be sent to everlasting punishment in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death (Matt. 25:46, Mk. 9:43-48, Rev. 19:20, 20:11-15, 21:8)

The New Heavens and the New Earth: According to God’s promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will

dwell and reign forever (2 Pet. 3:13, Rev. 21-22)

Office Procedures and Training

Each Remnant will assume responsibility for daily office tasks, which has been previously assigned in their Job Portfolios. Remember, part of being in ministry is being a part of an office. Take this opportunity to learn and be a member of the vision to set the stage. Daily tasks are listed below. You will be able to find your assigned tasks in your Job Portfolio. The following is a quick overview and will be taught to you according to your Job Portfolio.

Basic Office InformationMinistry office hours are standard but you must be flexible with your schedule. The Remnants gather in the morning and join in prayer and a daily devotion before the day begins.

We are to maintain a proper office etiquette at all times. The overall noise level must be kept down, personal hygiene must be attended to, and courteous behavior is expected. If you become frustrated, take some time away to H.A.L.T. - Hurting, Angry, Lonely, Tired. If you are any of these things, spend some time alone with God. Always show respect to those around you.

No one is to leave the office without permission. An executive staff member must know your whereabouts at all times. Worship or Praise music is to be played at all times in the office, but kept softly.

Office EquipmentAll of the computers are off limits unless permission is granted to use them. Personal emails are to be checked before or after office hours…never during! Ms. Karen’s computer and desk area are not to be touched! Never leave copier lid open, it damages the hinges. Credit card & postage machines aren’t to be used unless you have been properly trained and shown how to use them. The digital and video camera are to be protected and carried with you at all times. After trips, make sure that the cameras make it back to the audio/video department to have all

the pictures and film clips downloaded to the computer system. Check sermon video clips and power point to make sure they’re working correctly.

Filing CabinetsAll filing cabinets in the offices, especially the cabinets in Pastor Pat and Ms. Karen’s offices are not to be gone through or opened unless you have permission to do so. Don’t leave any master copies lying around. Place them back in their files in the cabinet. Remember, keep your files organized and labeled in case others need to find them. Don’t get into other’s files without permission.

Supplies & OrderingNo one is to order any supplies unless the Financial Administrator has approved it. If supplies are needed, make a list and give it to Financial Administrator. If in the occasion you are needed to make a purchase, be sure to get a receipt and fill out the proper form. Place the completed form in Financial Administrator’s tray.

Phones Designated students and staff will answer phones. If they are unable to answer them, you should. Remember to answer them with politeness and pen & paper handy. Phones should always be answered as follows: ‘Thank you for calling Mercy Seat Ministries, this is ____________ speaking. How may I help you?’ Take down a complete message. Don’t leave any details out. Who was it for? Who was it? Where from? What was the purpose of the phone call? Phone number? Time? Date? And always remember to put who took the message, so that later if there are any questions you can answer them. Give all messages for Pastor Pat to his personal assistant ASAP! Return all phone calls with promptness and kindness. Personal calls should not be made during office hours, and must be made with a phone card.

Scheduling & Support Mail OutsAll scheduling will go through the President or his personal assistant. Never schedule something for the Evangelist. When scheduling, we will send out a confirmation packet including Pastor’s Portfolio and promo pictures, add an interview questionnaire to the interview book, and add them to the wall calendar. We send out monthly supporter letters and testimony pages, after each event, we collect testimonies to be made into a book and sent to the Pastor where we were just ministering.

Product & Mailing Out OrdersInventory is to be done every week and after trips. Aubreana orders product however Rachael does product inventory and reports to Aubreana. Ministry Van:The following are guidelines for vehicle travel on ministry trips. In ministry vans or cars, all drinks must have a secure lid and no crumbly food is allowed. The drivers must not speed or tailgate, and everyone is to wear their seatbelts at all times. The front passenger must be awake and alert at all times as to navigate for the driver. Drivers, remember that you have the lives of others in your hands! All DVD’s, movies, and games must be approved by the Director.

The vans and vehicles need to be thoroughly cleaned out and washed after each trip. Before and after trips, make sure the vehicles are completely checked over for fluids, oils, and any maintenance they might need. Do not wait to let the vehicle overseer know about any maintenance needed.

Procedure for being pulled over:The insurance card, along with the registration, is located in the glove compartment. Make sure that you give the officer your license and the vehicle’s registration. Treat the officer with utmost respect. You are representing a ministry of excellence.

Make sure the officer knows and understands that you are just borrowing the car from the ministry. It is your responsibility to let the Director know about the incident. Don’t let the Director find out the hard way. You’ll receive more grace!!

Procedures for an accident:Immediately notify the police. Call one of the emergency contact numbers. If you think you are hurt, do not move. If you don’t feel safe getting out of your car, lock the doors and stay in the car until the police arrive. Make sure the officer understands you are just borrowing the vehicle if it is not yours. Pray for the others involved in the accident. Handle the situation with integrity. Call the Director immediately.

Personal Vehicles:Treat every car better than your own. A student’s vehicle is not a ministry vehicle. No food or drinks are allowed to be in the vehicles except with lids. Do not leave trash inside any vehicle, including personal ones. You must keep them neat.

We will inspect vehicles to make sure you are keeping them maintained. Absolutely no minors are allowed to ride with you without permission. Keep up on oil changes every 3,000 miles. There is no exception for speeding.

If you are caught with a speeding ticket, you will lose your driving privileges on ministry trips. You are responsible for gas unless you are traveling on a ministry trip. Always ask the owner of the car before driving a vehicle and never borrow any items out of their car without permission. Procedures for being pulled over and accidents apply for personal vehicles as well as ministry vehicles.

Student Life

As a Remnant, you live and work in a close proximity with other students. Close living environments carry intrinsic challenges in everyday life. The following rules and guidelines are for your protection and support, and each rule has been put in the manual for a reason. Adhere to and follow these guidelines accordingly.

Rules of Relationships, Friendships, and the Opposite Sex

Non-personal1. No one will receive phone numbers, emails, email addresses, or addresses from the

opposite sex. This is for your and their protection.2. No one is ever to be alone with the opposite sex. This includes indoors, outdoors,

vehicles, long walks, etc.3. No intern should ever be in the opposite sex’s room. 4. There is a zero tolerance policy in the regards to flirting, wrestling or any form of

physical suggestive behavior with the opposite sex.5. If you harm a person, you will be turned over to the proper authorities.

In the Event of...1. If you get a note handed to you, give it to the trip leader. Do not read it. 2. If you receive a call, email or letter in the mail from someone of the opposite sex,

ignore it. 3. If someone approaches, touches, suggests, or comes on to you, inform your leader

right away.

If you don’t know what to do, ask the trip leader or call the Director!

Check in Guidelines

Always call the Dean and the Director before planning an activity to make sure it is approved. Plan ahead so that there is plenty of time for consideration. Fill out an ‘Outside Activity Form’ and hand it in. Always have ready the activity’s details, including time, place, what it is, who’s going, how you’re getting there, and phone numbers, etc.

Every intern must be invited to every activity. You’re not obligated to go, but you should always have the opportunity to join.

If you cannot reach the Dean or the Director, you don’t go. You must contact your leaders to let them know where you are and how late you will

be. If plans change, call them again. If you are living with a home opener, always let them know where you are and when

you will be home. Remember to respect their rules and not overstep your bounds or be an inconvenience by coming and going at odd hours.

Always keep curfew: 10:30 pm on weekdays, 11:00 pm on weekends, and 10:00 pm before a ministry trip.

Let your Dean know where you are at all times. Keep your room clean and organized. Always make your bed! There will be spot checks. Everyone will help keep their house clean (dishes, vacuum, dust, etc.). Always dress modestly at home. Never sleep past 9:00 am (even on days off) unless otherwise given permission. Never snoop in your roommate’s personal belongings. Do not use anyone’s things without permission. If you use something with permission, put it back where you got it when you are done. No food in the bedrooms. Clean up the bathroom after each time you use it. Don’t leave clothes out or hair in the

drains. Never bring any guest home with you without permission from your Dean. Do your own laundry; use your own detergent.

Outside Job Policy Students may work their first semester, only if approved by the Director. All jobs must be conducted between the hours of 4:30 pm and 10 pm on weekdays. No jobs are allowed to interfere with any church functions. Prior arrangements must be

made with their employers because Christian Life Church, MSM, and RSOM come first. Since we have Ascend Thursdays and Monday night chapels, students can’t work on

those nights. On weekends a student may work all day on Saturday, if approved. No one may work on Sunday if the job interferes with Christian Life Church and/or

ministry travel. If a student works on Sunday, they may not go to work until 2 pm. All students who work outside jobs must keep up school work, must travel when

assigned, and must keep all duties in ministry up at all times. A student may on special occasions get permission to work extra hours (holidays, ect.) if

it is approved by the Director. The Director can at any time tell a student they must resign from the job they hold with

a two week notice if it is interfering with any of the above mentioned duties. No one may work in an environment that is not healthy for a Remnant. All jobs are secondary to the ministry All students working must pay tithe on the gross of their income to either their home

church or to Mercy Seat Ministries Inc. All students and staff are required to send a copy of their following week’s work

schedule by 2:00 pm every Friday to the Director

The Remnant School of Ministry is just that: a school of ministry. Anyone who leaves this school not only has incredible practical experience and book knowledge, but of course a major influence on the side of Spirit-led ministry. Every single person that is here is very important to the vision. The above policy is non-negotiable. The vision at Remnants is to create a complete working environment that builds the student in every area. An outside job must not interfere with this vision.

Weekend Break Policy

Students are given two weekend opportunities each term to go home for a short break. The weekend begins Friday at 5:00 pm and ends on Sunday at 10:00 pm. All breaks are subject to the RSOM outside activity policy and are not permitted to extend beyond the weekend. This policy does not make exceptions for holidays unless otherwise notified by the administration of RSOM. Students who do not live reasonable driving distance and choose to fly home will have one five-day pass for their break. Flight days are included in the five-day period.

This policy includes but is not limited to family vacations, weddings, and other recreational events.

Sincerely,

RSOM Staff
