(Oral History) with an emphasis on Storytelling: Oral History Guidelines/Interviewing Process via class lecture, activities, and notes. Students will now be given direct instruction (audio & visual). Specifically, student will participate in a lecture based on, Oral History Interview Guide. Student will be given direct instruction on What is an interview, Before The Interview, Interview Technique, Types of Interview Questions, Ordering Questions, Learning to Listen, Organize & Label.

Oral History – Interview Guide

What is Oral History? It is the collection and study of historical information about individuals, families, important events, or everyday life using recording or transcribing via planned interviews.

What is an Interview?It’s a conversation with a question and answer portion. It’s also documented electronically or manually.

Types of Interviews:1) Journalistic2) Job 3) Therapeutic 4) Ethnographic (scientific)

Preparation before the interview1) Check your equipment2) Plan your questions3) Get to know your interviewee

Interview Techniques:1) Make a connection2) Be polite when applicable3) Start off easy4) Show interest5) Ask follow up questions

After the interview:1) Send a thank you note or email (job interview)2) Share your interview with teacher, friends, family, social outlets, etc-etc3) Reflect

Hands on Activity:

1. Students will receive a “Mock Interview – Sample Question List.”
