When we arrived at Nursery this week it looked very different. A spooky witch’s house had replaced our home corner and some scary stories had been added to our reading area. We were all so excited and could not wait to dress up in the

spooky themed costumes!

Throughout the week there were lots of haunting activities for everyone to take part in; we explored the zombie's slime, carved spooky pumpkins, role played in

Meg and Mogs house, found spooky spiders, rats and bats in a gigantic pile of wormy spaghetti and much more! Everyone had such a fantastic time!

Our favorite part of the week was making our spells! We all had a little turn on stirring the magic potion before adding glitter and sprinkles to the liquid. Some of us even wrote our spells down using a template from Meg the witches spell

book.

Reception started the week by enjoying Funny Bones stories and learning about skeletons. We sang skeleton songs and went on a bone hunt in our outside area before building our skeleton back together.

We have also made silly soup in our cauldron. We added objects and segmented the words into sounds so that we could write them into our cauldron. The children also counted out spiders in the spooky rice into numbered pots.

Children completed phase 2 phonics this week and we have already started phase 3. All parents should have received a sound mat with the phase 3 sounds on, if you have not please ask me for one. At parents evening I will give out a set of the phase 3 tricky words.

This week we have also started to practise our number formation, we have practised them on a large scale outside with chalk and with paint brushes and water, and also on a smaller scale on paper with felt tips.

This week in come and see we started the Belonging topic. The focus for Nursery and Reception is ‘Welcome’. They will look at how a baby is welcomed into the home and family and also by the church into God’s family. This week the children talked about what ’welcome’ means, we practised greeting each other to make each other feel welcome and made welcome cards.

Throughout the following 2 weeks we will look more closely at ‘Baptism’. If your child has been baptised and you are happy to, could you please send in an object from your child’s baptism, such as a candle, card or photograph. These will form a small display and will be returned at the end of the week. Please ensure if you do send anything in it is labelled.

Nursery: This week in nursery we have been introducing the children to rhyming words. For homework we would like you to share a rhyming story or song with your child pointing out the rhyming words.

Reception: I would like reception children to continue practising their number formation. I have included a number sheet in their book bag, but children do not have to use this sheet. Children may want to complete their homework on larger paper from home or using chalks in the garden etc. Feel free to send a photograph in instead of the number sheet.

Dates to remember:

Tuesday 25th October/ Thursday 27th October- Parents evening. Please bring along any learning from home / photographs to add to your child’s learning journey.
