Rotary Club of Esperance
Meeting: Esperance Golf Club, July 30, 2018Bulletin No 5, 2018/19

President Rob invited both our new exchange students to introduce themselves to the meeting
The District Governor will visit November 29, we should arrange a joint meeting with the other club for this
Directors approved Honorary Memberships for Athol Staaden, Dennis Usher, Rigo Tidow, Len Marsh and Paul Goldie for the 2018/19 year
Annual Calender of Events – Ken Jenkyn has offered to take the basics to our website. Also, a shed meeting session on our website resources is in order so members can get more out of our website facility. Date TBA
Reusable bags project – Directors felt we have missed the boat on this one. Food, Fellowship, Action
Constitution and Bylaws – we must adopt a new constitution and bylaws by June 2019 as an incorporated association. President Rob, John Honey and one other will start our planning going forward on this. There will be a workshop at the Civic Centre August 7 at 6pm for clubs to work through requirements and issues in this area
World Polio Day - October 24. President Rob has approached the ESHS suggesting a fund-raising challenge to raise the $1500 US dollars to contribute to the End Polio Now campaign. Awaiting a response
Travelling Rotary E –Club, October 22. An opportunity to present part of funds raised at Rawlinna for Australian Rotary Health. Probably a joint meeting with the other club in order here as time is short during their visit
RFDS Donation - Resolved to donate some funds to RFDS in support of Rob Donaldson and Chook Henderson following their presentation last meeting

Treasurer’s Report – Brian Colliver: Escare Anchor Program: $7,000 donation made to get this off the ground RSL function – we have been paid for this so we are committed to the event Membership fees coming in. Please ensure you identify yourself when any

Club Administration – Director Paul Russell: On August 25 the the Call of Duty event will be run by the RSL. The event is
being advertised around town Paul thanked the cooks for tonight and the usual set-up crew for the Shed
meeting
Community Report – Director Peter Tredinnick: RSL lunch preparations are underway John Grigson and Neil McCallum will be looking after the shed
Youth Report – Director Scott Mackie:
No official report. However both students were with us for the first time. Anna Taietti (Italy) and Soizic Lubrez (France). Welcome to you both.
Vocational Report – Director Graham MacKenzie: Old numbers removed from data base and new
numbers from the White Pages added in and the phone book, and these are currently being added to the data base. This is a major fundraiser so the hours need to be put in to reap the rewards compared to other events we do.
International Report – Director Chris Roberts: There is a workshop in Perth (Mantalina) August 17-19 on the subject of
international projects such as Shelter Box Chris has met with his committee and they are throwing some ideas around
and will report to members at a later date

From the Floor: Ken presented Chris Roberts with an appreciation certificate from the last
meeting Ken also thanked Bob for picking up Soizic from the Airport last weekend The Ralph Bower Park is in need of upgrading, for example, the Rotary-built
boat in the playground is past its use-by-date and it is estimated to cost $68,000 to replace. The Shire has many items quoted for upgrade in the park coming in at a total of $560,000. They have approved $250,000 but have asked local community clubs to contribute - for example, $25,000 from the combined Rotary clubs - so that a Lotteries Grant can be obtained for the balance. A lot of comment was made on this subject and eventually a show of hands approved a commitment of some $10,000 towards this project
Hugh McKenzie suggested that we have input on the Anchor Program that Escare is running and which we are funding, so that we are not just handing over a cheque and walking away. Members agreed

Many fines were handed out, starting with the raffle winner Bob Boord and his secret gathering at Dome this morning. No badges with some offenders, birthday Paul Mather, last at the bar Alan Timmins. Peter Tredinnick was fined for his appearance in the local paper, John Honey for not completing Dry July, and Kim Beale was fined for his phone ringing during the meeting. There were various welcome back taxes and Ken Jenkyn was fined for passing off his Sergeant assist duties to Anna.Buy the Box from Steve Smedje: Brian Colliver was fined for the obstacle course to get into Esperance Toyota then telling him to “watch the step” once he was past it all. President Rob fined Ken Jenkyn after visiting him Saturday arvo only to find him asleep in his armchair.
