Year 5 Weekly Newsletter Hello Year 5, I hope you are all well and safe at home! This past week has been a very happy one for my family, we spent Wednesday night out in my sister’s family garden and celebrated my father’s 60 th birthday it was wonderful. I have sadly been unable to run for a few days this week due to injury but hopefully will be back at it on Monday. I’m currently praying for some sun and have started a new project at home called ‘make the garden great again’. With this added time at home, I have decided to make our garden more homely and welcoming, as currently it’s just four walls of concrete. I know the big local project were giving out planters for a small cost. So I am getting in touch with them for some ideas this week. I might see some of you in school this week – I hope you are all well! What have you been up to? Let me know at [email protected] English – practice these high frequency words: Amateur, ancient, bruise, conscience, conscious, controversy, convenience, correspond, criticise, curiosity Can you read and spell these by the end of the week – if you want, let me know how many you spelt correctly last week via email. Year 5 Weekly Newsletter

Hello Year 5, I hope you are all well and safe at home! This past week has been a very happy one for my family, we spent Wednesday night out in my sister’s family garden and celebrated my father’s 60th birthday it was wonderful.

Watch and read the following to further support your findings https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/watch/city-and-local-wildlife

Your information sheet should inform the reader about urban wildlife in the “local area” where they might find animals, what clues to look out for, how can they support their habitats, what they should and shouldn’t do to support local urban wildlife. Links for people to find more information.

You MUST include the following vocabulary, where applicableHabitatCarnivore

Learning Italian isn’t just about saying new words – you can do so much more. I know you all like music, so let’s combine the two. Music in Italian Listen to the songs in these links, they’re all different styles from classical to pop. Have fun with them dance if you want, close your eyes if you want, cry with it if you want but feel the music and the words float through your ears like honey oozing from a jar!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhgJV0Pg54YCiao for now!Geography – this week we will be looking at grid referencing and map reading skills.

When we write a 4-digit grid reference we look at the numbers on the x-axis and then the numbers on the y-axis for example:If I look at the legend below – it tells me what each symbol means. For this example I want to locate the picnic site .Once I have located the symbol – look down to the x-axis and see it is in ‘07’ box and on the y-axis it is in the ‘42’ box.Now we simply put the numbers together, so this 4-digit grid reference is ‘0742’.

Complete the questions above:Answers1. _______________________2._______________________3._______________________

Below is a real OS map of Scafell Pike which is used by walkers in the Lake District. However, I have lost the legend to it and need your help. Can you research and find the correct labels for the different symbols on this map, creating your own legend.

DT –Hi everyone, so time to take things to the next stage now. We obviously can’t all make birdhouses out of wood this year as we don’t have these resources at home. So what about the resources we do have? Well, actually bird houses don’t necessarily need to be made out of wood – instead we could use recycled bottles and some other materials we all have around the house. Activity- research a recyclable project on youtube you would like to do to make your house:

Here is one I think you could easily convert into a bird house:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0wk-xdoT9o

RE – This term we will focus on women in the Old Testament, today we will begin to make links between our faith and the real world.

Which famous or important women can you think of that have really impacted the world today. It may be a world leader, a singer, actor, environmentalist, royalty, politician etc.

See if you can find a photo of them to place in the middle of a mind map (you can use powerpoint also).Around their image write and answer the following questions:1. Why are they famous?2. Why are they important?3. What do they do?4. Why do we admire them?5. What qualities do they have?6. How do they link to the women we have researched in the Bible these last few weeks?7. What Christian qualities do they have?8. What school values do they show in their lives?

Add colour to your map and be creative with your thinking, take time before an answer to really think about what you want to write. You may even need to do some online research on them!

PSHE – For your PSHE tasks this term we will be focusing on ourselves and how you can look after ‘you’ during lockdown!Adrenalin Junkies Game – Watch the video and consider these points – what emotions must these wing-suit flyers have before a jump? How do their emotions change when they are in the air? How do they control their fear?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRqnTODwvEA

Activity – I want you to think about your lockdown experience.Add to your mini booklet today and write in things that link to your current feelings or worries in lockdown. Also consider how you could control your feelings and emotions. This site is great for helping if you’re stressed or anxious about the world right now.https://kidshealth.org/en/kids/stress-center/stress-situations/?WT.ac=en-k-relax-center-gMusic – I hope you all enjoyed the blue man group last week. I have something completely different this week for you. Watch the video then complete the game below (next week will we do a new game).

A truly special performance – I wonder if you could try it out also!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gHgXmMXvAg

Tasks - Throw The Dice game- whichever number the dice lands on you should complete the corresponding task from the list below. Why not make a video or take a photo of your work to share with your teacher?

1 Take Action! - imagine you are a film or game maker, how would you use this piece of music? What scenery would you need? What would be happening on the screen? Devise a timeline marking the exact points where specific actions should happen. You might even want to use a free movie-making app to film the action.

Page 6: staidansprimary.co.uk€¦  · Web viewToday, I want you to try the ‘posted note challenge’. For this challenge you need some stick notes or paper. Write the words out, stick

2 Get Arty! - listen to the piece all the way through, perhaps with your eyes closed. What images, colours or textures best match the music? How can you draw, paint, model or build these? Take a photo of the finished masterpiece.3 Compose! - using instruments you have created (shakers, pans and spoons etc) or real instruments, take one idea from the piece as a starting point. It might be a repeating pattern or melody, or a sense of quietness or busyness and then create your own short piece of music based on this idea. Give your composition a title. 4 Write Now! - decide whether you are going to write a poem, story or newspaper article about the piece of music. This can be as short or as long as you like, but make sure you capture the heart of the music in every single word. 5 Start Moving! - move in time with the music as various animals might, impersonate the performer or conductor, or make up your own actions or dance. How can you reflect the character of the music in your movements? 6 Bonus Six! - take your pick from any of the activities numbered one to five.https://www.random.org/dice/?num=1
