CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Rev. Julie Wilson

At the 8:30 Worship Service, Children’s Church is available for children ages 5 years old through 3rd grade. This involves worship related activities for children. Parents are asked to escort their children to the narthex (lobby) at the back of the sanctuary to meet the Children’s Church leader for the morning. Children are also welcome to stay in the worship service.

CHILDREN’S ANTHEM “Mantos y Palmas” UMH #279

Join us in singing the refrain.

LITANY FOR AFTER THE PARADEOn this day, O God, we gather with the children who lead the crowd into Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday;

though we consort with the scribes and leaders who condemn Jesus.

We work with the disciples to prepare the way,though we linger with those who do not understand.

We follow the crowd, shouting, “Hosanna,”though we know the words, “Crucify him!” are also

on our lips. We celebrate the Son of David,

though we confess we do not follow him to the end, even now.

THE PASSION

REQUIEM “Requiem Aeternam” John Rutter

Cathedral and Gospel ChoirsJESUS’ ARREST AND BETRAYAL Luke 22:45-62

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON)

Lord Jesus, we are a fickle people, quick to turn away. We are quick to flock to you when all is well, but we are prone to scatter when there is opposition or criticism. Too often we have kept silent before you, afraid to proclaim your praise. It is easy to join the crowd as you ride triumphantly into Jerusalem— singing our joys and expectations, dancing our hopes and dreams. It is far more difficult to stand by you as the crowd cries for your crucifixion. Forgive our weakness when we turn away. Strengthen us for the journey ahead as we relive your suffering and death, that we might stay beside you to the end.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE AND PARDON Out of the depths of our weakness, we have cried out to God. God hears our cries and offers us forgiveness. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.Let us continue our journey knowing to trust in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy and redemption. Always.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
