First I frowned, then I smiled about this bold idea. Yes, sure! Now, that the mature markets do not seem to be first choice for big investments, and high-growth markets like China are not growing at such high rates any more, we need a new horse in the stable! So why not the Artic? Isn’t it fancy to explore business opportunities in the world’s northernmost emerging market? It is true, there are natural resources, not touched upon and not exploited so far: Oil, gas, metals & rare earths, diamonds,… But I also read the word "sustainable” in the article about business potentials of the Arctic. How on earth could you imagine it to be sustainable to conquer the last retreat of wilderness and nature, in order to add another promising project to your pipeline? Compared to this new idea, the current investments of Lanxess in Germany and Trust Chem in Spain do not seem too spectacular, but I am sure they may be much more sustainable at this time! Your weekly update on the coatings industry Current number of subscribers: 42429

Dear reader,

these days, my attention was drawn upon the following headline: "Is the Arctic the next emerging market?” This question was raised by the management consultants of Booz & Company, claiming that as the ice was receding anyway, one could well think about taking advantage of the immense opportunities arising together with this natural phenomenon.

Enjoy reading!
