PresidentARL Awards - Being held at Central TAFE. 16th of March at 5pm. Request for committee members to attend. BC will attend and give award. BC suggests CSU be included in the awards.
Literacy Matters – State Library Initiative – will sit back and watch progress. BC attended nothing changed. Use our list for PD and Conference. Use Steve Krashen List to advertise and let them know about PD. Appendix 4 – participants’ contacts – BL to set up.
FutureNow Libraries Museums and Galleries Industry Advisory Group – George has volunteered to attend on behalf of WASLA. FutureNow is the Training Council responsible for representing industry’s voice on matters of workforce development and training for the Creative and Leisure industries. 18 March, 10am, at FutureNow's address in Osborne Park. The meetings are expected to last 1-1.5 hours and there will be 2-3 meetings per year.
IFLA – meeting in the Hague today - Key Initiative 1.1.2 Expand and promote a framework for media and information literacies, Learning from the Literacy Key Initiative. Use these documents for keeping TL’s in our schools.
Australian Law Librarians’ Association WA - propose a collective photographic opportunity – scheduled for 9 June 2016 Appendix 6
QSLA – AGM – 19/3/16 meeting 12pm WST – advice on PDs and how they can rejuvenate their association. Shirley stepping down from president position. QSLA to provide information on Principals Award – any WASLA committee member to attend – Nat & Mike said they would be able to attend.

new excel database, when this is completed with the new data, BL will send out an email to members and through WASLAnet to let everyone know. After this it is expected people to get who were previously on the register to make contact.

Treasurer – Bankwest Statement (Feb 29 2016) - $16,833.36 Payments – very few transactions during the month. The usual
payment including PO Box (Australia Post); EO (BL) and external hard drive for Phyllis (secretary). In addition : 2 x $100 cheques for the ARL Awardees ( to be handed out tomorrow evening)

Secretary –Currently setting up assets register, PP to pass on contact details of Vanessa Rooney (Central TAFE) to RM in regards to cataloguing courses/PD. Suggested casual Coffee meetings for networking, not a formal PD – chat, coffee & cake!

Advertising – issue of non-profit organisations – reword policy – free if the PD is free otherwise they are working towards a profit.

LOs – BC – proposed to write to Principals of schools that have LOs what WASLA has to offer in regards to PD or provided consulting services ($500.00), proposed advocacy packs. This will be a large job. Val to go to Mandurah TL PLN, Nat to South of the River.

Appendix 5 – SLCWA email
Hi Everyone, It’s time to register for the School Library Conference WA. We have a really exciting program lined up including:
authors Tristan Bancks, Nadia Wheatley and Sean Avery; technology in education experts Tom March and Hamish Curry from NoTosh; awards for the TL, Library Tech and Library Officer of the Year will be
presented by the Minister for Education the Hon. Peter Collier (so get your nominations in);
a 25 year service award for school library personnel (do you or someone you know qualify?);
a presentation for the Great School Libraries campaign; the Breakfast Nibbles and Natter with Nadia Wheatley, Bus, Book and Browse
tours and a Cocktails and Conversation on the Friday. some great concurrent sessions (full program here) which include strands
such as advocacy, technology, practical library, outreach, literacy and literature;
a great trade display; including book signings; and a plethora of prizes to be won.
Register now - first in, first served! Breakfast with the author is at Karrinyup Golf Club and numbers are limited to
50. Concurrent sessions will also be capped so earlybirds will get their choice of
sessions. Each bus tour can take 48 people so you will need to book the tour that
appeals to you (they are different).
Conference fees have been capped and are the same as the 2014 conference. WASLA members can also apply for a scholarship to attend the conference.
The SLCWA Committee look forward to seeing you there.

Appendix 6: Advocacy photo shoot
Thank you so much for indicating your interest in the below event.
I am pleased to announce that the “Information professionals in Western Australia photo and sundowner event” is planned for the 9th June 2016 at the State Library of Western Australia, with a start time of 5pm. The State Library has kindly agreed to provide the venue for this event.
Participating associations and groups include: Australian Law Librarians Association (WA Division); Australian Libraries and Information Association; WA Library Technician Group; Public Libraries WA; ALIAWest; ALIA Academic and Research Libraries (WA); Australian Geoscience Information Association and Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia.
I am currently seeking sponsorship from various vendors within the information industry, if your association or group deals with someone personally, and you feel that they would like to be involved please let me know..
If you can also advise on how many photo configurations (excluding the one large collective photo) that your group or association may be interested in, I can then put together a running sheet for the event.
I will be creating a Google form to capture RSVP numbers and a ‘Save the date’ flyer that can be distributed amongst your membership.

Social Media Sub-Committee Minutes – 23 January 2016

Which Social Media? The Social Media Sub-Committee discussed which Social media would be used
initially by WASLA to establish WASLA’s digital presence. A decision was made to begin with a WASLA Twitter account and a Facebook Group It was discussed whether to set up an Open or Closed Facebook Group
Twitter Account Sarah to set up a WASLA Twitter account. @WASLA not available as that user name is already taken @WASLApln and @WASLAConnects discussed as possible user names (SLAV
uses @SLAVConnects). o Committee decided on @WASLApln and #WASLApln for future WASLA
professional development
Facebook Group The committee discussed whether the WASLA Facebook Group would be an open or
closed group. TeachMeet WA https://www.facebook.com/groups/TeachMeetWA/ and #LoveOzYA
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1621824284752117/?fref=ts were mentioned as comparable closed groups.
It was decided on a Closed Group with any of the committee members able to approve other members initially.
Mike Spanier set up the WASLA Facebook Secret Group on his mobile device with the subcommittee as members. Group to be changed from “Secret” to “Closed” once decision made to go live with all WASLA social media platforms.
Badging Badging for WASLA would be used across all platforms
Sub-Committee communication It was decided that the sub-committee would communicate via social media if
necessary to discuss any other social media issues A WASLA Social Media Sub-Committee Secret Group was created (post meeting) for
the purposes of communication between committee members. The group has also been collaborating via Google Docs to put together a WASLA Social Media Guidelines and Protocols document.
