It’s getting a little too cold for me here in Antarctica! And it’s definitely too COLD in Antarctica for people to call it home. Every year scientists from 28 countries go to Antarctica to do research. During the summer about 5,000 people live here in research and weather stations. Only about 1,000 brave scientists stay for the winter. As of 2009, 11 children have been born in Antarctica.The United States has three year-round research stations. One of them, the McMurdo Station, is the largest research station in Antarctica. It can house more than 1,000 scientists, visitors and tourists.The ANTARCTIC TREATY (promise), now signed by 47 countries, basically says that Antarctica cannot belong to any country. There may NOT be any military activities, mineral mining, nuclear explosions or nuclear power in Antarctica. Scientific research, while protecting the environment, may be done on Antarctica.Once you find all the words below, the remaining letters will spell a secret message!
