National Projects:

a) HIV- Integrated Testing and Counseling Centre (ICTC) State Reference Laboratory (SRL) ART- CD4 Testing Laboratory The laboratory is NABL accreditated. HIV counseling, testing and surveillance work is undertaken. The project is under NACO/KSAPS

b) Sentinel Surveillance Laboratory (SSL). Tests related to vector borne diseases like Dengue, Chickungunya and Japanese encephalitis is undertaken. The project is under National Vector Borne Disease Control program

c) Integrated diseases surveillance program (IDSP)- Outbreak related disease investigations like leptospira, HAV, HEV etc are undertaken

d) Sexually transmitted infection Referral centre

e) Culture and drug susceptibility testing centre ( Tuberculosis-Culture and Drug Susceptibility) The laboratory has state of the art infrastructure with BSC level 3 laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with the latest equipments of international standards. All the tests for diagnosis of tuberculosis and drug resistant tuberculosis - Gene X pert, Line probe assay, solid and liquid culture, microscopy are undertaken. The project is under RNTCP program.

Teaching of Microbiology is being done for MBBS II phase for the period of one and half year as per the curriculum of RGUHS based on MCI.

Theory and Practical teaching in undertaken

Post Graduate- MD Course Postgraduate training program in Microbiology was introduced in the year 1976 affiliated to Karnataka University Dharwad up to 1999 and subsequently to RGUHS Bangalore with MCI recognition.
