It is common that a business owner expects a better year in 2015 in comparison to 2014. There might be exceptions because of capital expenditures or certain investments that will lead to enhanced results in future years. It is highly unlikely that 2015 will be a better year if nothing has changed from the way your business operates compared to 2014.

The status quo for another year won’t get it done! It is the responsibility of a leader to see that changes are made to produce a different result. What is going to change? This is the fundamental question upon which 2015 budgets are based. Changes need to be specific. For example, “These are the two changes scheduled in each quarter of the year that will be made and implementing them successfully will lead to the expected results to achieve the 2015 budget.”

There is only so much change people can handle. One or two

What is going to be different in 2015?By Joel Fridgen

changes every three months doesn’t seem like a lot, but they can represent huge change to the sole proprietor, or to employees, or to your customer base. People react to change differently. Most people don’t like change. They have to be convinced why the change is beneficial. They have to see some type of benefit. If I heard it once, then I heard it five times during the Pittsburgh-Bengal football game. Pittsburgh brought in a new offensive coordinator that changed the team philosophy. They were second in the league in offensive production per game this year and they have a healthy franchise quarterback. The transition to a new offensive attack was not easy. Games were lost. But it now appears to have been worth it as they look at the performance of the team after three years.

Change can have an immediate impact. Change can also have a delayed impact, or prove to have no impact at all. Change for the sake of change isn’t the answer. There needs to be an assessment made to identify what needs to change. Then a decision made on how to modify the process in order to get the results necessary. Any decision to make a change involves some measure of risk.

The pursuit of being better as a company in 2015 compared to 2014 requires some type of change and taking calculated risks.

If you choose to confine yourself to hoping for a better year in 2015, then chances are you are going to be very disappointed. May the changes you are planning for 2015 produce anticipated results to strengthen your business and generate a better result

The document is a land warrant for the sale of two plots of land in Philadelphia’s historic area, which were sold to one individual. The James Logan document will be 300 years old this March. Today, these two plots of land are where the National Constitution Center is located.

Chamber recognized for Service

“The Peer Leaders” sponsored an activity at the Greencastle-Antrim High School encouraging the student body to thank different men and women as well as organizations for service to the community. The Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce was one of the organizations chosen. We received several thank you cards from students. We are able to work with the music department and drama club in several areas. The middle school band performs at the “Evening Tribute to Veterans”. The senior high and middle school choirs perform on the square during Heritage Christmas Fridays. The drama club organizes students who dress up as our holiday characters who entertain and greet people on the square. The Business Education Partnership committee chaired by Georgia Barvinchack also works with the school to support programs involving career exploration. I also know a number of individuals involved with the chamber volunteer to conduct exit interviews for seniors. Their recognition of our efforts to serve the community is much appreciated.

Orrstown Bank pays it forward for the holidays

Orrstown Bank team members coordinated holiday giving projects to help some neighbors who need it.“It’s the season of giving, and our community has been so good to us. We wanted to pay it forward,” said Barb Brobst, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Orrstown Bank.

Chris Brooks, a loan business systems analyst at the bank’s Chambersburg-based operations center, collected stocking stuffers to deliver to cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Medical Center who can’t get home for Christmas.Brooks saw a post on Facebook from a nurse asking for donations and she felt the need to help. “I can’t imagine what it would be like to be stuck in the hospital on Christmas. Stocking stuffers seemed like the least I could do,” said Brooks.“Plus, I hate cancer!” she added.

Traci Yohe, loan quality control specialist, and Amanda Hallyburton, loan servicing supervisor, from the operations center organized a Christmas stocking decorating contest during the employee holiday party to raise money for Boys and Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg.“This not only encourages team work and raises morale, it gives us an opportunity to raise money for charity,” said Yohe.

The bank’s Mechanicsburg branch on Baden Powell Lane volunteered for shifts ringing the bell at the Wal-Mart on Carlisle Pike for the Salvation Army. “We thought it would be something great for the community that we could do as a team,” said Mike Byerly, branch executive officer.

Many other Orrstown Bank locations also collected the money they would typically spend on gifts for each other and donated it to local families in need throughout. “We feel as though our money is better spent this way rather than exchanging gifts with each other,” said Rachel Grimm, executive officer for the bank’s Greencastle branch.
