RESEARCH INTERESTS

Research is focused on geopolitics, the boundary between geography: physical, economic and social, and politics. The emphasis is on geopolitical issues at scales varying from the international to the local, with a particular emphasis on applied research in the arid and semi-arid zone with special reference to the Middle East. Main fields of interest include:

a. Geopolitics: international boundaries, transboundary waterproblems and the macro-political agenda, development studies, security and terrorism;

b. Economic geography/politics: resources, particularly strategic minerals, fuel minerals and water; crisis resupply from industry;

c. Social geography/politics: refugees, the welfare of children and rural development problems.
