Information PageTe Awamutu Primary (also known affectionately as “TAPS” to our community) is a decile 5 school located in the heart of Te Awamutu.

We currently have over 500 students on our roll, however, we will restart in 2019 with approximately 420 students. TAPS has a positive reputation in our community, this and the growth of Waikeria Prison and the employment opportunities this offers, are the most likely reasons for the significant roll growth we’ve had over the past year.

TAPS is a well resourced school with a number of teachers and learning support staff who are passionate about raising student achievement and looking after the health and wellbeing of our tamariki.

In 2017 we introduced Manaaki Te Karearea as our TAPS Guardian. Manaaki supports us on our vision of “Together, Achieving Personal Success” whilst always showing our

TAPS values (excellence, honesty, respect, care & concern and responsibility). Manaaki

Karearea are a powerful, native, New Zealand, bird that are known to be powerful and strong. This directly links to our school motto of “Kia Kaha”.

TAPS TEAM NAMESTo help build a strong pathway across our Teams at TAPS, we have named each area of the school with a te reo word that denotes the growth of a karearea from the an egg to a grown bird. Team 1 - Timatanga - The beginning of the learning journey for our pipi paopao.Team 2 - Taiohi - Young minds growing, developing their flight feathers and learning to fly.
