Discrete SubjectsLiteracy Talking and listening skills will be implemented through our “Apprentice “business plans presentations. During Active Literacy in reading, we will be focussing on understanding, analysing and evaluating, with a view to being able to identify the purpose of a text. In our writing, we will be looking at ways to engage and/or influence the reader through vocabulary and/or use of language (Talk for Writing & persuasive writing). During Term 2 in grammar, we will focus on different types of nouns and apostrophes. Weekly spelling activities will help us consolidate spelling patterns and rules.Maths and NumeracyIn maths we will be focussing on money and how to budget. This will mainly be through our “Apprentice” business challenge and Fairtrade activities. We will also be looking at problem solving through algebra. Our main number focus will be multiplication and division, along with revising addition and subtraction, paying attention as to how we set our work out. We will also continue to consolidate previous learning through Mental Maths.Science With our specialist we will be learning about Inheritance and Living and Growing. By investigating the lifecycles of plants and animals, to recognise the different stages of their development. By exploring the characteristics offspring inherit when living things reproduce, distinguish between inherited and non-inherited characteristics.PE We will be taught by our PE Specialist developing our problem-solving skills, responsibility and leadership, balance, control and decision making.Modern Foreign Languages We will continue to enhance our knowledge of French through familiar words and phrases in increasingly full sentences. In German we will be joined by a German student and learning our numbers, greetings, colours and animals.

Buddies This term we will begin to work with our Nursery buddies and aim to build positive relationships through a variety of curricular activities. Class Charter As a class we will continue to follow our class charter as part of our Better Relationships, Better Behaviour, Better Learning Policy. Community Learning TeamsPupils will have the opportunity to take part in a mixed age group as part of a community learning team learning new skills for life, world of work and working with children of different ages. HousesEach pupil will be an active member of one of the three houses: Maybury, Barnton and Almond.JASSPupils will continue their bronze award for JASS by taking part in “Me and My World”. This session the tasks will be largely completed in school.

Interdisciplinary Learning:Sexual Health, Relationships and Human Reproduction During our topic we will be looking at how our bodies change physically and emotionally, understanding how this can affect how we feel about ourselves and how we may behave. We will also be learning:Families and loving relationshipsDifferences in girls and boysBody changes in girls and boys during puberty, including, hormones and feelings, wet dreams and masturbationMenstruation The biology of sex and sexual reproduction Fairtrade During the Fairtrade topic we will learn about the purpose of Fairtrade, to help us understand why it began, the difference it has made to the livelihood of others, sustainability and persuasive language.Christmas This session we will be looking at Christianity and exploring the similarities and differences between Christian beliefs and our own. We will also look at the key features and importance of Christmas as a festival in the past and in today’s society. Building Resilience This term we will be covering “Keep Connected” which will look at the importance of relationships, building friendships and continuing to develop our resilience.

Twitter Achievements Pupils are invited to record their successes in our wider achievement form which will then be displayed on twitter, our website and in our file of success. JASSWe will be presenting and celebrating our achievements in the “Me and My World” award within JASS.Team EC Award and Fabulous FridayCelebrating personal achievement through nomination for the weekly Team EC Award and receiving whole school recognition. Pupils will also attend Fabulous Fridays held by Mrs Scott.
