Topic Selection
Ogallala Public School’s Technology Committee selected the Digital Literacy and
Citizenship Curriculum developed by Common Sense Media to equip K-12 students with
technology literacy skills. The engaging, multi-faceted curriculum includes lessons about online
behavior, safety & privacy, and cyberbullying, which are requirements for the Children’s
Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and is compliant with E-rate requirements. The digital
curriculum is aligned with the standards from the International Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). “In this
increasingly global world of information, students must be taught to seek diverse perspectives,
gather and use information ethically, and use social tools responsibly and safely,” from
Standards for the 21st Century Learner (AASL). The Digital Literacy and Citizenship
Curriculum is free and available at http://www.commonsensemedia.org/ educators/curriculum
