How are we doing?STAKEHOLDERS

For all our children to succeed, we must all work together. All those involved with the children’s development are called ‘stakeholders !’ Apart from parents and carers, we are also supported by stakeholders such as charities and various other agencies: Speech and Language Services; Additional Support Services; Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services; Social Services and many more…We asked all our community what they thought of

Sighthill Primary School last session. Here is a summary of what people said:

We also received some comments on which we will be working hard to improve upon. These included:

The playground – both the surface and resources were mentioned. I am delighted to say that we are due to have the playground resurfaced very soon and our Parent Council have been very busy buying new resources for the children to play with.

We work hard to ensure all our pupils have the opportunities to succeed beyond the school day. We do this by:

Offering a variety of extra-curricular clubs by staff

Undertaking the JASS and John Muir programmes

Tracking the clubs our learners attend out of school.

To ensure all stakeholders are valued we will make sure we listen to you and consider your requests. We will do this by:

Continuing to promote the school aims and values in order to ensure all stakeholders are aware of the schools community ethos.

Showcasing our curriculum at curricular events, such as open afternoons.

To promote a sense of ownership in children’s learning.

To promote a ‘Growth Mindset’ ethos to ensure all our learners are achieving to the best of their ability

To work in partnership with parents to engage in their own child’s learning.

We know that the best way to improve is to look at what we could do better. We have taken into account all the feedback from Education Scotland and the City of Edinburgh and this is what we are aiming to do this year:

Promote our school values to be at the core of everything we are trying to achieve.

To raise attainment further through supporting and challenging our children’s literacy and numeracy skills and their Health and Wellbeing.

Deliver high quality learning and teaching, through an effective curriculum, to meet our learners’ needs.

Develop quality feedback to identify personal targets

To report on children’s progress to parents regularly throughout the year – eg. Parents evenings in October and March and also once a term drop-in sessions to view their work

To continue to promote outdoor learning. To instill a ‘Growth Mindset’ ethos within

our learners and staff to continue to

Last year as a follow-up from our visit from Education Scotland a team from the City of Edinburgh came to review the progress our children were making. They visited classes and reported their findings as follows:

The school atmosphere was calm and purposeful.

Pupils engaged with their learning tasks. Pupils were very excited by new initiatives

that were being put in place, ie Choco’s Reading Den.

Children’s voice, personalization and choice was evident with dialogues with the children.

Children’s personal, social and emotional needs are well met and next steps in learning are identified.

CLUBS

We have an Active School Co-ordinator who is working with us to provide clubs which the children have shown an interest in. Our P1 and

P2 clubs tend to run at lunchtime and we also have many activities taking place after school. The new programme this session looks really

exciting so please encourage your children to sign up for these as if these are not well attended they will have to be cancelled!

We run a very successful Breakfast Club in school. Not only does this service offer a nutritional start to school days and a chance for children to mix with their peers, it also supports learning! We are supported by Aegon. They provide volunteers but also helped put us in touch with those local businesses who could support our Breakfast Club long term. SYKES, from Calder Road, stepped in and have generously supported the running costs of the club for the last nine years!
