About 71% of the Earth's surface is covered in water, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth's water, however only 2.5% of it is fresh. Even then, just 1% of our freshwater is easily accessible, as much of it is trapped in ice and snow. While our planet as a whole may never run out of water, it's important to remember that clean freshwater is not always available when we need it. In fact, half of the world's freshwater can be found in only six countries.

More than a billion people live without enough safe, clean water which causes lots of illnesses and diseases.

Most people around the world have access to clean drinking water but it is a major problem in poorer areas of the world. Water pollution and low-quality water can lead to dangerous bacteria, disease and viruses.

Drinking water is needed for humans to avoid dehydration, the amount you need each day depends on the temperature, how much activity you are involved in and other factors
