Senior Infants Work: Week Beginning 20 th of April 2020 20/04/20 Dear Parent/Guardian, Boys and Girls, I hope this finds you and all your families well in this unsettling time and that you had a lovely Easter break. The Senior Infants team in Scoil Naomh Eltin hope to continue to provide your children with weekly work which will allow your child access to the Curriculum over the coming weeks. We have provided our email addresses below and would love if children sent one or two pieces of work each week that they are proud of! Keep an eye on the class page of our school website as we will update it with some of the samples of work we receive. Gaeilge: TG4 will be broadcasting a new programme called “Ar Scoil” weekdays at 10 a.m. – this will be similar to the RTÉ HomeSchool Hub but will be through Irish. Our topic is “An Teilifís” (Television). EDCO have kindly given access to the interactive Bua na Cainte programme which can be downloaded using the following steps:

1. Go to www.edco.ie/bua2. Select the file which suits your computer PC or MAC3. Select the Class Level you require (Senior Infants), then click on it to start a

download of the file4. Once the download has completed, click on the file to install and follow the on-

screen instructions.5. A Bua na Cainte icon will appear on your desktop. Once you select this icon a

login page will open where you will need to enter the details included belowLogin: trialPassword: trial

Once you have accessed Bua na Cainte, select “An Teilifís” from the themes and Ceacht 5, Ceacht 6 (Lessons 5,6) will build on what was done before the Easter Break. There are lovely songs and interactive games which can all be done over the week (Please don’t feel under pressure to complete each game/activity that accompanies each lesson). A song that would prepare your child for next weeks lessons can also be found under the “Rainn” tab at the bottom of An Teilifís – please select Tá feirm ag an bhfeirmeoir (Old McDonald had a farm)Activities:Revise who is on the television. Your child should have an idea of the Irish terms for these people already from previous lessons. Please use images attached to aid your child’s learning. Question: Cé atá ar an teilifís? Geography: Develop a responsibility for taking care of and enhancing the environment. Identify, discuss and implement simple strategies for improving and caring for

the environment – recycling.

Activities: Make a list/talk about all the things your child likes/dislikes about their

locality. Talk about how they have a role in looking after their local environment and

their locality. Discuss what things they can do to look after their home, their school, their

locality. Look at the images below (pg.31), discuss each image and whether it shows

a good way to look after the locality. Explain to your child that some waste can be recycled which means it can be

reused while other waste cannot – ask your child for some examples of recyclable materials.

Looking at the headings on page 32 ask your child to come up with some example of what might go into each bin.

SPHE:Media Education – this lesson focusses on what is a need and what is a want and the difference between them. Talk to your child about their favourite items/objects, discuss if they need them to survive or just want them. Ask them to come up with a list of needs and wants.
