within our inner kingdom. And, don't forget to let your real light shine.

Peace & Goodwill – Pat Medill

ALL THAT THE LIGHT TOUCHES There are countless ways that grandchildren bring joy into our lives and one of my favorites is watching Disney movies with them. On a recent marathon of old favorites, I was reminded of how much adult wisdom is always woven into them, when Mufasa, the Lion King, proudly said to Simba, "Everything the light touches is our kingdom." I immediately thought of our community and what we all co-own...the lake, the sunsets, the parks, the fun, the events, the security, the family-like atmosphere, our friendships, and so much more. To experience Mufasa's wise words, tomorrow at sunrise, look out your window and behold all that the light touches and know it is your kingdom. You have the freedom and the right to claim the view and the peace that accompanies all of it. I've said it before and I will never stop believing it...with this freedom comes a personal responsibility to leave our own contribution to make our kingdom reflect a light of kindness that will be even brighter at our sunset. It's a time of new life...let's turn our face toward the light and experience that new life

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Spring is upon us and the flowers are sprouting up everywhere. The last week of the winter season gave us one last hurrah but for the most part, I think this year will go down in the books as one of the more milder winters. It was fun to see how many people came out in March to work on their yards or just take a walk. There was no waiting for ice out this year and already we are seeing many of our local fishermen in their boats out on the lake. I also hope that everyone had a peaceful Easter weekend.

In March, I signed a Proclamation on behalf of the City of Weatherby Lake to support the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assaults campaign designed to improve the responses of friends, family members, and community professionals, to help victims gain access to supportive resources and engage the criminal justice system. During their lifetime, 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men will be the victim of rape or attempted sexual assault. Therefore, the City of Weatherby Lake has declared that the first Wednesday of the month of April be declared Start by Believing Day to support their campaign to raise awareness of victims of sexual violence and a desire to support their needs for justice and healing.

On another note of recognition, I further signed a Proclamation designating March 29, 2016 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day in remembrance of the last day that US troops were on the ground in Vietnam, and as a day to honor those who have “borne the battle”, as quoted by Veteran’s Affairs Secretary Robert A. McDonald. Over 9000 organizations across America have joined with the Department of Defense as a Commemorative Partner to honor our Nation’s Vietnam Veterans, including all 104 Chapters of the Missouri State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. This commemoration gives us the opportunity for Americans to recognize, honor, and thank our Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices during the Vietnam War from November 1, 1955 – May 15, 1975. (Please stop by and visit the display in the lobby of City Hall) At the Community Center, the new chairs have arrived and the old ones removed and put in storage. Wow, what a difference these new chairs make in both their appearance and comfort. Hope that you get a chance to use them. Reminder!!! Tuesday April 5th is election day for the City of Weatherby Lake. I am looking forward to your continued support and encouragement so together we can provide efficient management of the city’s resources in a fiscally responsible manner. Let me leave you with these thoughts. Spring is a miraculous experience. The whole world comes alive after the winter in which it seemed that everything was dead. The world comes filled with color and the scent of delicious greenery. The world that seemed so dull and cold has come alive once again. Little did we know that beneath the cold hard ground the plants and trees were preparing for rebirth. Spring gives us hope for rejuvenation in our own lives as well. Spring is a time to renew the excitement and zest for life that lives inside. Live life well here in Weatherby Lake.

SAINT PATRICK’S DAY EVENT

A mere thank you cannot express our gratitude to Darrell Coleman and the Irish American Club crew who worked so diligently to make this year’s event great. The parade had several new entries, including motorcycles and people riding in the back of pick-up trucks. The rain didn’t keep the dedicated viewers inside. Several groups cheered the parade on as it passed their location. The party was a great success and was very well attended. The cooking started early in the day and the kitchen staff was still busy long after the party. Deserts were brought in and were enjoyed by many. The food was great and there was plenty of it. One group supplied and installed tarps above the arbor so the patio could be used during the rain, and it was. People enjoying beer, brats, cigars and conversation made great use of the patio area. The DJ played Irish music and the PA system really helped during the auction. As the event came to a close, the clean-up started. Several volunteers pitched in and got the job done. Seeing the many volunteers working at finding auction items, stocking the bar, tending bar, cooking, bringing deserts, running the sound and music, emptying trash and cleaning up afterwards is inspiring. The food was great, the bar appeared to be a success and the auction went well. This type of volunteerism is what makes living in Weatherby Lake wonderful. Oh, I don’t want to forget all the attendees who gave of their time and money to support the Irish American Club and the Police Department. Thanks again to all of the volunteers and the community for your continued support.

SCAMS Don’t be the victim of a scam. Several scams are being attempted in the area at this time, please be cautious and alert. If you receive a call that a relative is in jail out of town and wants you to send them bond money, check it out because it is probably a scam. If you are asked to receive packages at your home or business and mail them to someone else in another country, be careful, it is probably a scam. If you receive notification you have won a foreign lottery and all you have to do to receive your money is wire or mail a small amount for taxes and fees to claim your prize, it is probably a scam. No legitimate lottery should ask you for money to claim your prize. The IRS does not normally telephone you with a prerecorded message to contact them before they asses a penalty for your taxes. Please call the police if you receive any offers you believe may be a scam.

SPRING DRIVING Spring is here and the weather just keeps getting better. More people are out walking, jogging and riding bicycles. The children are waiting for or getting off of their school bus. Please pay attention while driving.

ON STREET PARKING Parking on city streets is not uncommon in our city. It is sometimes necessary to accommodate guests or when using access areas. Weatherby Lake Ordinance requires that no person shall park any vehicle upon a street in a manner as to leave available less than ten (10) feet of width of the

roadway for free movement of vehicular traffic. You may not park in front of a public or private driveway, within thirty (30) feet of an intersection or within fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant. The parking laws become even more important with the increased vehicular traffic in the City due to summer lake usage. Improper parking impedes the safe passage of vehicles and limits some property owner’s safe use of their driveway. Please observe our parking laws, park in a safe courteous manner and help make Weatherby Lake a safer place to live and drive.

MAIL THEFTS Several reports of mail being stolen from boxes have been taken recently. Thieves are known to check mail boxes with the outgoing mail flag up or to follow after the mail delivery worker to check incoming mail. If you have outgoing mail, please use the mailbox at the City Hall parking lot or drop it off at another stationary mailbox. If you see anyone you don’t recognize checking mailboxes, please call the police immediately.

LOST DOGS Occasionally the Police Department picks up stray or unlicensed dogs and cats. These animals are kept in the kennels just behind City Hall. We report all lost dogs to the following animal helpers: WWW.PET-CONNECT.ORG PET CONNECT provides an on-line search of pictures and locations to help find lost owners. WWW.LOSTDOGREGISTRY.NET THE LOST DOG REGISTRY is called and we attempt to find the owners. If you lose your pet, please call city hall, check with the lost dog registry and check with Pet Connect to help find your pet. Help prevent crime in our city. Be a good neighbor, watch your neighborhood and report any suspicious or

unusual activity to the police. Call 911 immediately.

IRISH-AMERICAN CLUB ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

APRIL 2016 We are honored to thank the citizens of Weatherby Lake for your support and unity in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser for our Police Department. While this event has graced our community for over two decades with the longstanding dedication of many contributors, three years ago the torch was passed to a new generation of volunteers, many of whom either hadn’t lived at the lake very long or who hadn’t been directly involved in other events or organizations here. We had in common that each of us saw the potential to add to the community’s greatness, and that this event can serve as an open market for all residents to meet our local clubs and organizations as well as our city officials and the local businesses who appreciate our commerce. Each of the last three years has gotten bigger, and our 2016 fundraising results doubled those of 2014, ensuring that when more new equipment becomes vital to our safety and Weatherby Lake Police Department’s effectiveness, the resources will be available.

Bob Meyer Retires!!

For twelve years, Bob Meyer has manned the WLIC Window – greeting new members, answering member questions and swapping stories and jokes. Everyone at the Lake knew Bob and Bob knew everyone. He loves the Lake and the WLIC and would do whatever it took to maintain peace by generally filibustering you long enough to bring you around, totally confuse you or put you to sleep with his extremely detailed explanations.

Bob Meyer retired at the end of February and while the Office is a lot quieter, we already miss his stories and sage advice. Bob, his wife Kerry and his faithful companion Schroeder will still reside at the Lake and Members will continue to see him out and about. Please stop and talk to him, but only if you have an hour or two to spare.

In all Seriousness – Bob, we will miss you! Enjoy your retirement and thank you for your years of service.

From, All the Members of the WLIC

Have you seen a goose nest near or around the lake shoreline?

Please report it to the W.L.I.C.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS is adding a new category to our list of volunteer services to our community. The "Buddy Program" will be of special interest to those living alone. Every single will be matched with a neighbor who simply receives an email or quick phone call every day from the person living alone. This assures that if someone alone has a problem, that would normally be missed, that a caring neighbor would be alerted.

If you live alone, or know of someone whom you feel would benefit from this service, please contact us right away. We will also need lots of volunteers who would be willing to participate in this new program (receive one daily call from a shut-in, house bound, elderly, handicapped, etc. Please contact Pat at 741-1569

New Families

I'd like to start this month by welcoming all of the new families moving into our community. The growth and development of the lake continues to progress, and with this growth many new families are joining us and getting involved with their children. It's a wonderful thing to see and we're very happy to have you all! So, welcome!

Easter Egg Hunt

Even with a rain delay and a snowy start to the day, we had a wonderful egg hunt this year! We had a smaller group this year due to the weather and date change, but those who made it out had a great time! Sarah and I would like to thank everyone who made it to the hunt. We'd also like to say thank you to those of you who donated eggs, candy and toys. The Hudack family for popping popcorn for our snacks, the Weatherby lake fishing club for their financial donation and last but not least, all of the women who joined us for our first meeting and helped fill over 2500 eggs. We can not stress enough how much we appreciate your donations and your time. It is how we make all this happen.

Facebook Page

If you haven't heard yet, we have a Facebook page. The page is private for Weatherby lake

2

residents only. It's purpose is for our residents to have the ability to communicate with other residents about lake events, community issues, lost pets, advertising, etc. Please look us up and join in. To find us search for Weatherby lake families club in the search bar on Facebook. And tell your friends and neighbors!

Garage Sale

I've had several people ask about our donation garage sale this year. I apologize for not getting info out to you all sooner. Sarah and I have decided to postpone the donation garage sale until the fall. We both have other obligations during the spring garage sale time so we will not be available to run the sale during that time this year. However, as summer comes to a close and you start pulling out the kids winter school clothes, please keep us in mind. We will be taking donations in the fall.

We hope you all have a safe and happy start of spring.

It takes a village. Aren't you glad we live in a great one?

It’s amazing how fast time flies and we are already planning our last few activities for this season. We have several great events planned.

April 14th – V.A. Kammer will be giving a presentation on Spring Preparedness. As the volatile weather season approaches, now is the time to get our things in order so that we are safe and know precisely what to do if inconveniences or emergencies arise.

April 21st – Feed Northland Kids BackSnacks packing. We will carpool together from the community center. Meet at 4:50 in the parking lot.

May 12th – Our May season closer will feature Merrily Jackson, columnist for KC Spaces magazine. Merrily specializes in “Essential Entertaining” and will surely give us some great advise on how to enjoy our summer season to the fullest!

The generosity of our Women’s Club membership has not gone unnoticed. Over the past several months, we’ve donated to:

Synergy Services – Click here

Susan G. Komen Foundation – Click here

Feed Northland Kids – Click here

Please click the associated links to read the letters of appreciation from these organizations. It’s efforts like this that really demonstrate our community spirit.

Don’t forget to encourage traditional and non-traditional students to apply for our annual scholarship. Applications will be accepted from April 11th thru May 7th.

We will be holding officer elections this next month. Look for the email with the link to cast your vote electronically. It’s important that we reach a quorum. The positions are uncontested this year, so please take the few moments of time.

The city-wide garage sales are scheduled for June 3rd and 4th. Like in previous years, we will be publishing a map as a complimentary service.

Lastly, we will be kicking off the process of the new phone directory at our April meeting. We rely heavily on our membership to assist in making this valuable community service a success. And thank each and every one of you for your time.
