Why mental health at work?
• Lost productivity due to mental ill health in the WHO European Region accounts for costs of ca. €125 billion per year.
• Compared to other health conditions, depression and anxiety disorders impose a 30% higher toll on the employer and economy (due to longer average periods off work).
• Mental health problems have become one of the leading causes of work absenteeism and early retirement all over the European Region.
WHO Europe recommends:
Interventions to promote and protect mental health in the workplace should consist of raising awareness of the importance
of mental health, informing employees of the help available, involving employees in decision-making, offering programmesfor career development, and recognizing and rewarding work
performance.
Not Myself Today
• Started by Partners for Mental Health in Canada in 2012; nowtaken over by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)
• Not Myself Today was created to: increase awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness, reduce stigmaand foster a culture of acceptance and support for mental health and for those facing challenges
Not Myself Today
• All you need to run a successful workplace mental health awarenesscampaign: guidebooks, pre-defined activities to run, awareness-building materials, online orientation for new users, resource guides for different users (managers, employees, etc.),
Two Components: Physical & Digital Toolkit
• Not Myself Today collaboration to pilot within a limited number of participating organisations/companies
• Tailoring (incl. translation) of European toolkit to be based on collecting feedback to gauge reaction and adaptation needs
Can Not Myself Today make a difference in Europe?
• Not Myself Today is expanding to Europe, with an adaptation ofthe original Canadian campaign in European workplaces
• We invite organizations to join as founding partnerships for Not Myself Today – Europe
• Work with EBC & CMHA to start collaborating for mental health at the workplace—the tools are there, let’s build mentally healthyworkplaces together.
