soul of the baseThe sustainable, innovative growth of RED is perhaps best represented by the extensive remodel of the day lodge. This update includes the new, expanded 4,400 sq. ft. sun deck for live music, BBQ burgers, impromptu deck parties, private gatherings and the legendary SpringFest. This day lodge is the soul of the base area and holds fond memories for RED locals and visitors alike: from first hot chocolate to first tequila shot.

We kept the historical design intact and still managed to increase capacity considerably. Respecting our guests’ connection to everything our mountain offers is an important part of our DNA.

Our new Piste Off! Supply Company has everything you need - or forgot. A youthful vibe featuring brands like The North Face, Burton, Quiksilver, Dragon, VZ, Smith Optics and many more defines this shopping experience. Friendly service and an ability to get you back out on the slopes quickly are points of pride here and staff will be happy to recommend their favorite runs, restaurants and/or spots in Rossland.

Piste Off! is located in the day lodge facing the Silverlode chairlift.

In our effort to provide the ultimate experience for all of our guests, RED has numerous camps and clinics for our “advanced intermediate to hardcore” skiers, snowboarders and tele-markers. You can start by leaving your gear at home and get fitted with one of our High Performance Rental packages, optimized for the steeps and bottomless powder of the Kootenays. If you’re beyond a typical lesson, we offer the broadest array of ski and snowboard improvement camps and clinics in Canada including: Shred RED Clinic, Intro to Touring, Chix on Snow, Men’s Vert Club, Custom Backcountry Guiding Adventures, and more. If you can see it, we can help you shred it in style.

The new and expanded KEEN features a metropolitan selection of espresso drinks, custom roasted coffees, artisan teas, wine, beer, breakfast items (besides beer!), healthy snacks and those goggle pocket must-haves. Now located on the second floor of the day lodge opposite Sourdough in the Conference Centre. From 8am daily, KEEN is the best spot to start your day.

Powder Magazine picked Rafters as North America’s Best Ski Bar in 2012. Why? It’s a world class après spot and now boasts updates that will continue that legacy for another 50 years. A 360-degree bar is the highlight of the update and means faster drinks for everyone and amazing people watching. Try one of our signature pizzas, nachos, or local favorite “The Wannabe,” a veggie burger with cheese and bacon. Rafters is also an ideal spot for a relaxing lunch with an adult beverage. From live music to DJs, Rafters is pretty much where the party starts. (Where it ends is up to you...)

GREY MOUNTAIN expansion!

For 2013-14, skiers at RED have a whole new mountain to discover! That’s right -- the lift went in Summer 2013 and our bold expansion to Grey Mountain adds almost 1,000 acres to our terrain. The 997-acre expansion alone is about the same size as the revered Mt. Baker Ski Area in Washington and elevates RED to the top three-percent (3%) of all resorts in North America for skiable acres: 2,800+ . (Don’t let that “down-home” vibe fool you!)

Grey offers vast new intermediate terrain options for RED’s guests. This expansion is a true game changer, with new south-facing intermediate terrain, new groomers, and wide open, gently-sloping powder runs for all abilities. Grey also offers some fun tree runs as well as some natural gullies and kickers for the ambitious free rider. For the more adventurous, the backside of Grey holds steep chutes that connect you to a trail that’ll take you back to the lift. This variety makes Grey an excellent option for mixed-skill groups because riders of all abilities can all meet up at the same lift without anyone having to “tame their game” or push past their “comfort zone.”

Like Granite, one of RED’s other main peaks, Grey Mountain is volcano-shaped, which allows for 360-degree skiing from a single lift -- a topographical feature few resorts in the world are lucky to have. Think of it as “3-D Skiing.”

CAT SKIING ON white wolf ridge!

RED is beyond proud to offer an in-bounds cat skiing experience on White Wolf Ridge for 2013-14. This stellar terrain was previously only available to those willing to make a serious uphill trek!

The area for cat skiing will form part of RED Mountain Resort’s operating boundary and will include ski patrol, avalanche control, end-of-day sweep inbounds, as well as out of bounds signage and route mapping. Catch the cat at the top of Rino’s Run.

Price is only $10/run, first come, first served (cash or vouchers only). Powder to the people!

Elevate Your Next Conference @ RED

If your last conference took place in some tired town nobody was excited to fly to, why not spark that executive creativity by hosting your next gathering at RED? Our new Conference Centre, completed in 2010, is an urban-caliber facility with complete digital A/V connectivity andWi-Fi throughout. With gorgeous views of Red and Granite Mountains you certainly won’t find in Orlando, various rooms for breakout meetings or different-sized groups, and full catering facilities, you might find that your employees elevate their game - just to make sure they make the list for the next one!

The 1289 sq. ft. RCC seats 80 people or handles 120 standing. The 2274 sq. ft. Sourdough seats 200 and can be combined with the RCC for extra-large groups.(“Nerd necklaces” not included.)

SHREDS ON ICE

Our popular ice skating rink has moved from the parking lot to some prime “see and be seen” real estate on-hill. Adjacent to Slalom Creek and beautifully situated, the rink is open until 9pm.

Whether you’re working on your Toeless Lutz or your cross-checks, you can now enjoy some real Canadian fun under our lights. “Two minutes for looking so good!”

SPARE SOME CHANGE?

While we’re always looking for ways to improve our guests’ experience at RED, we got into this business because we loved the mountain. A few bragging points we’ll never change:

We’re part of the elite five-percent “club” of North American resorts that get over 750 cms of snow annually -- 25 feet!

Our lift tickets, at $72, are one of the great values in the resort world. With other hills of comparable stature routinely charging around $96/day, our bang for the buck is obvious. “It’s like getting a free steak dinner with every lift ticket!”

RED is a quick, 2.5 hour drive from Spokane, Washington which has flights from major US cities. No mountain passes to negotiate means no Hummer required...

Our amazing topography means complete, 360-degree access to many mountain peaks enabling considerably more skiable acres per lift. Think of it as “3-D Skiing”
