2015 Trips Update By: Jean Ballinger, Trips VP

Trip sign-ups have gone very well for the upcoming ski season. To date, we have sold 198 spaces. We have added spaces to most of our trips to accommodate our members. Banff is our first trip of the season, departing on January 24. We added 17 spaces to this trip, and there is one opening for a female. We added 6 spaces to Steamboat, and the trip is currently full. We had to cancel 2 condos at Winter Park in order to avoid penalties, but if you're interested in this trip, contact the trip leader NOW! We added 6 spaces to Beaver Creek, and the trip is currently full. We cancelled 2 rooms at Madonna di Campiglio to avoid those awful penalties. So again, if interested in this trip, contact the trip leader NOW! Our last trip of the season is to Big Sky, with 27 signed up at this time. Surprisingly, the Huntley was the preferred lodging choice this year. There are currently 2 openings, one for a female in the Huntley, and one for a female in the Big Horn condos. There is also a condo available for 6 people. If you haven't signed up for a trip yet, it's not too late. There are a few openings. And if the trip is currently full, don't despair. Get yourself on the wait list, as cancellations do occur.

TTTThe Prez Speaks….he Prez Speaks….he Prez Speaks….he Prez Speaks….

As I write, I hear the snow is flying in Minnesota, and the temps will drop in Indy. Let’s hope that is a good sign for this 2014-2015 winter trip season. I don’t want to take away from the magnificent fall colors this year (which has also resulted in a bummer crop of leaves to rake up!) but I think most of us are anxious for a winter wonderland in the mountains. This year again proved to be a pleasant day for all that volunteered with the ski club booth at the annual Penrod Art Fair, “Indiana’s Nicest Day”. A HUGE THANK YOU to Ray Battey for his help with the set up and many thanks to all that volunteered a few hours of their time during the day. It was good to see the booth did not blow away with the storm the night before. We received many looks (dressed in our ski gear), but we also spoke with many people interested in the ski club. Continue to check the website, or Meetup.com, for a listing of social events in the near future. The attendance at the recent club meetings has been great—we had a nice turnout at the September meeting at George’s Neighborhood Grill, and a fun night at the October open house at SunValley Sports But please mark your calendars for our final big party of the year, before we all set out for the trips—the annual Christmas/Holiday party on Thursday, December 18th. Check the details in the Boomer, and plan to come hungry and enjoy a wonderful evening with holiday festivities.

Biking Monon Riders Bicycle Group - by Ray Battey

No more rides are scheduled until spring of 2015. Our group finished the season with a great ride on the Cardinal Greenway, going about 24 miles and seeing some great fall foliage along the way. Overall, we did about a dozen rides this year exploring most of the paved trails around Indianapo-lis and Carmel, plus the Cardinal Greenway. Our goal next season is to offer a greater variety of rides, some for begin-ners and infrequent

riders, and other longer rides for more experi-enced riders. Our goal is to remain a group for “social riders.” Hardcore 50-mile a day rid-ers are welcome to join us if they want to take a more relaxed ride. Over the winter we al-ways have a few days when it’s warm enough to ride, so I might see you on the Monon. Thanks Ray

This might sound crazy, but it may be good that the

snow is coming late to the Rockies this year. Let me explain. In the past, when the west had great snow early in the season, there often was nothing more to speak of later on. For example, the Sierras last year had a great autumn snowfall and nothing happened the rest of the year…. and there was great early sea-son snow at Vail two seasons ago and brown in the Back Bowls in spring. So don’t pay much attention to the early snowfall reports (even though A-Basin and Loveland are already open). It’s what we ski on in January thru April that matters. Think SNOW !!!!!
