First Grade

Dear First Grade Families,

Fall has arrived!!! October is a busy month for our first graders with, our pumpkin farm field trip,

conferences, and fall break!!!

Reminder: Our field trip is on Thursday, October 10th. We need all money by OCTOBER 4th in order to

plan ahead with the pumpkin farm. Remember – field trips are an earned privilege for the first graders.

Look for a note about conferences from your child’s teacher. During fall conferences, we will discuss

your child’s academic performance and classroom behavior.

Please note: Costumes may be worn to school on THURSDAY, October 31st. See your child’s teacher

with any questions about October.

Lastly, Room 1 and Room 3 are in need of snacks! Thank you for any donations!

Happy Fall,

Mrs. Thomas, Ms. Kiecolt, and Mrs. Powers Second Grade

October News

Fall is here and our second grade classes are so excited for everything that October has in store! This month we will continue to learn to about fire safety at home with a special guest inspector from the Tucson Fire Department. Please work with your child to help them to memorize their address and phone number in case of an emergency. You will also get a fire escape plan to complete and keep at home. We will end the month with a huge Mini-Muster event hosted by TFD. This event will take place at Homer Davis on October 28th. We will get the chance to use a fire hose, dress like a fireman and even crawl through a smoke house! Please look for communication from your child’s teacher with more details about this amazing event.

Third Grade Third Grade News September went by so quickly! Our third graders are learning many things—multiplication, division, and even how to

collect and categorize data, the different genres (types of books) in reading, and how to write well organized

paragraphs with fluent sentences in writing. As always, homework is very important; not only to assess learning, but

to reinforce what is learned in school. We advise parents to check homework folders nightly to see what is going on

in the classroom, and to look for important communications from the school and each teacher. Students have started

reading assigned chapter books and are expected to complete the assigned reading each night. Please keep chapter

books in homework folders so we know they are not lost. Any lost book will result in a $5 fee to replace the book.

Remember that work missed during absences must be made up so that grades are not negatively impacted!

We have our first field trip coming up on October 10th to Brandi Fenton Park for an ecosystem discovery lesson.

Students who are not turning in work and/or have poor behavior will not be attending this field trip.

Conferences are coming up soon. Most will be scheduled on Oct. 11th, 14th, 15th, and 16th. It is our goal to meet

with all parents for a conference. The end of the first quarter is Oct. 11th and there will be a half day for students on

this day. Please continue to call or email us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Fifth Grade Dear Fifth Grade Families,

Check out our school web site at: http://www.davis.flowingwellsschools.org/ or like us on Facebook! Please continue to practice your Multiplication Math Facts with your child daily. It is also important that your child is reading for at least 20 minutes straight each night and you discuss what they read with them when they record the responses on their log. Science Fair is underway with the first two check points due on the 3rd and 4th. The final project is due December 13th. There will be a Dragons of Character assembly at 1:00 on the 4th. The first quarter ends on Friday the 11th. This is also a half day of school for students. Monday the 14th, Tuesday the 15th, and Wednesday the 16th are all half days. School will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Ms. Hendricks, Ms. Carswell, and Mr. Van Derlaske will be meeting for conferences with each family. Please be prompt for your conference so the schedule will not be delayed. Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th is Fall Break. There will be no school on either of these days. On Friday the 25th there will be a Bio-mimicry workshop at Davis for the students conducted by the Desert Museum. The 31st will be costume day in honor of Halloween. Please make sure the costumes are school appropriate without any bloody items or weapons. If you have a concern, do not hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to a great October month. Thanks for all the support. - Ms. Hendricks, Ms. Carswell, and Mr. Van Derlaske

Congratulations Girls on a Great Season. Next sport up is Cross-Country with Mrs. Abrams and Mrs. Wescott, so get
