Dear Friends,
It’s with excitement and great pride that we refl ect on our fi rst complete year of operation in the new location of DISCOVERY Children’s Museum. We saw record-breaking attendance since opening the doors in March 2013 with more than 360,000 visitors and more than 5,200 memberships. It was exciting to see so many engaged visitors inventing in Patents Pending, creating lock systems in Water World and climbing the stairs, sliding through the tunnels and experiencing the exhibits throughout the 12 levels of The Summit. Parents and children learned and had fun in our exciting traveling exhibits including Mindbenders Mansion and Scholastic’s Magic School Bus™ Kicks Up A Storm. We are working diligently to reach all children to ignite a love of lifelong learning and are committed to sharing our unique informal learning atmosphere with all families, regardless of economic means. Over the last year, we welcomed 25,229 school children and their teachers through our fi eld trip program where schools received a deeply discounted rate, we held two free public admission days as well as the distribution of more than 6,000 complimentary museum passes – included in this number were the passes that distributed to other non-profi ts in our city through our Fall Non-profi t Admission Program. None of this would be possible without the dedicated Board of Trustees, our lead donor – Donald W. Reynolds Foundation as well as Las Vegas Sands Foundation and Windsong Trust for their generous gifts and our generous donor and member families. Our success is also in part
because of our respected program partners, our talented staff and volunteers, all of whom play a critical role in the museum’s important work on behalf of every child, every day. We look forward to your partnership and support again this next year as we continue to strive in making our museum the best children’s museum for our visitors.
Sincerely,
A Special Thank You to our SupportersMEANWHILE...

Happy First Birthday March 9, 2014 was a very special day as the museum celebrated its first birthday. More than 800 eager children and their parents waited in line to enter and celebrate the museum’s successful first year. By the end of the party, 2,227 visitors had explored all three levels, enjoyed 1,000 birthday cupcakes and visited with our own pirate - Jack Sparrow.
We have tallied some impressive numbers.
Summerlin Art Festival (Howard Hughes Corp.)
Exciting Collaborations The museum made significant investments inside and outside its facility to enhance our visitors’ experience. We created and collaborated on new and educational events building upon the strengths of participating organizations.

Visitors can always count on learning something new at the museum. Each month there is a different theme for our every-changing daily programming. Curiosity is piqued with learning experiences such as Animal Exploration, National Hispanic Heritage Month, and Exploring New Technology, Puzzles and Challenges.
The museum’s core curriculum includes arts & culture, science & nature and early childhood development. The nine exhibit halls offer visitors experiences based in the curriculum helping children with critical cognitive, motor, social and emotional competencies. These important skills will influence them in reaching their full potential, and be eager learners as they journey from youth into adulthood.
Count on learning something new.
Arts & Culture programs were made possible by The Howard Hughes

Science programs were made possible by the Andrew Family Foundation.

Education & Youth EnrichmentGuided by its philosophy to provide vibrant and engaging educational experience, the Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children with one-of-a-kind informal learning experiences that are real and relevant to daily life.
YOUTHWORKS PROGRAMAs the Children’s Museum’s signature youth enrichment program, YouthWorks reaches high school students with engaging educational and volunteer experiences that encourage personal exploration and build confidence and skills. Cited as a national model program for low-income, at-risk youth by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, Youthworks benefits the community’s underserved youth by encouraging them to stay in school and graduate.
Students that have volunteered and show a track record of good performance may also be offered paid employment opportunities working at the Museum. Since moving to its new location, 166 teens have benefited from the program. The 21 year program’s success is reflected in the nearly 100 percent graduation rate among senior class participants!
