WE ARE FALL 2020 WHAT HAPPENS EVERY DAY BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROSITY danielkids.org facebook.com/danielkids @danielkids One of the most unpleasant aspects about age is that things simply start to break down. That was most certainly the case with Woodcove Cottage, one of several mid-size residential treatment cottages initially built on Daniel’s Belfort Road campus in the 1960s. As many as 30 girls, aged 9 to 17, stay at Woodcove each year to receive intensive counseling and behavioral therapy for an average of three to six months. Many of these girls were abused, others struggle with behavioral or emotional issues – all need the acute, in-patient care that the Daniel team provides. Yet over time, the Woodcove cottage began showing significant wear and tear, requiring not only necessary repairs, but also a brighter look that would enhance the therapeutic treatment provided there. Fortunately, there’s also an upside to age – the many friends with generous, beautiful spirits that Daniel has accumulated over the years. A great example is Michael and Zoie Morales, who are the leading benefactors for Daniel’s Woodcove Cottage renovation. Zoie was well-acquainted with Daniel from an early age as her late father, Hank Haynes, served on the Daniel Board of Trustees for more than 30 years. She and her husband, Michael, CEO at RF-SMART, are dedicated parents to three children and engaged community philanthropists, especially for causes that support foster and adopted children. “The Morales family’s donation has funded the lion’s share of the renovations,” said Daniel CEO Lesley Wells. “Their gift will create an updated, nurturing environment that will serve as a place of healing for hundreds of children who will receive help from Daniel over the next decade and beyond.” Their contribution provides for updating the cottage’s bedrooms, making the bathrooms ADA compliant, beautifying the common space and more. The work will begin this year and is estimated to be fully completed by February 2021. In the meantime, other Daniel friends have also affected positive change at Woodcove, including Reliant Roofing who offered a $25,000 new roof as a Christmas present last year. David Weekley homes also generously provided $60,000 of renovations last spring, completely transforming the kitchen and living area. It seems that aging isn’t so bad after all – as long as it’s accompanied by beautiful friends who lend their support. WOODCOVE COTTAGE: A STORY OF AGE AND BEAUTY The exciting renovations happening at the nearby Woodcove Cottage have stirred the winds of change. Creekside Cottage, built during the same time period, is also in desperate need of remodeling to create a nurturing environment for a very underserved population of children. Currently, parents of children who have a diagnosed mental health issue and a co-occurring mild-to-moderate intellectual difference – such as being on the autism spectrum – do not have a place within 125 miles where they can receive specialized help. With proper renovations, we can create a comfortable, up-to-date environment in which we can serve youth with these unique needs, providing behavioral analysis, psychiatric care, therapy, and academic and recreational services. The Daniel development team has been quietly, but actively, raising money for this worthwhile cause. With the help of several key private donors, we’re more than halfway there. Yet, we need your support to keep our momentum going and enable us to reach this worthwhile goal. For more than 135 years, this community has helped us meet the evolving needs of our children, and we’re confident that it will rise to the occasion once again. WHAT HAPPENS EVERY DAY BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROSITY

One of the most unpleasant aspects about age is that things simply start to break down.

“Their gift will create an updated, nurturing environment that will serve as a place of healing for hundreds of children who will receive help from Daniel over the next decade and beyond.”

Their contribution provides for updating the cottage’s bedrooms, making the bathrooms ADA compliant, beautifying the common space and more.

WOODCOVE COTTAGE: A STORY OF AGE AND BEAUTY

The exciting renovations happening at the nearby Woodcove Cottage have stirred the winds of change.
