Wildcats Make the Playoffs The Wiley College men’s baseball team has made the playoffs! The Wildcats will
play Texas College at LSU Shreveport’s Pilots Field on Friday, May 2, 2014 at
11:30am.
The winner will face off with LSU Shreveport at 6:30pm on Friday. The losing
team will play Saturday at 11:30am in an elimination game.

Poetry Under the Stars During Founders’ Week, SGA hosted a first-of-its-kind event, showcasing
various musicians, poets, and artists. The theme of the showcase was Fluid
Vibe in an open atmosphere, paying homage to the various alumni classes who
have paved the way for current students by creating a strong Wiley culture.

From Wildcats to Bulldogs Seven Wildcats are leaving Wiley College prepared for the exciting world of
graduate studies at Alabama A&M University. Congratulations on your
diploma! We wish you the best as you pursue advanced studies. May you

Student Admitted to UT-Arlington
Sharnice Dickey, a Wiley College Criminal Justice major, has been admitted to
the University of Texas at Arlington graduate school for Fall 2014 in the Masters
of Criminology program. As a part of a dual degree program, she will also earn
a Master’s degree in Social Work. Congratulations!

Operation Bear Hug Wiley students and staff collected 214 teddy bears for Operation Bear Hug and
delivered them to needy patients at four different hospitals in Texas and
Louisiana. Sometimes a little comfort goes a long way to provide peace.

WC Students Land IBM Internships
Wiley’s own Felix Ekwueme and Titus Njoku will spend their summer preparing
for their futures. Both landed an opportunity of a lifetime at one of the most
forward thinking Fortune 500 companies in the nation—IBM.
Felix (left) is a current junior. He will spend the next 3 months working
alongside a multi-disciplinary team of developers, testers and business
professionals in Rochester, Minnesota with the goal of ensuring that IBM’s
state-of-the-art products are expertly designed, tested, and debugged.
Titus (right), also a junior and a Computer Information Systems Major will
spend the summer in Austin, Texas as an IBM intern. He will have the
opportunity to work as a programmer with a highly innovative User Interface
team responsible for building the next generation User Interface for IBM
products in the Console, Application Management and WebSphere Security
Unit/Area.

Wileyites Score Great Internships WC students have landed enviable internships left and right, preparing for their
futures with hands-on experiences this summer. Internships are a great
investment
Elise Pickard Mass Communication Major Senior Interning at:
ABC Channel 13 Houston Will help in the production of community affairs shows, including scheduling of guests, help gathering and editing video, assist with community drives, forums and outreach.
Frederick Jones Religion Major Senior Interning at:
Project Transformation Will work with churches in Dallas and surrounding communities helping to build a positive environment for kids in the community through Bible study activities and community service.

Nina Grace Shelby Hospitality/Tourism Mgt. Major Junior Interning at:
Gloucester Institute Moton fellows will also work on a wide range of projects involving public policy, community engagement, education reform ideology, and economic development.
Montreal Major Business Junior Interning at:
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Summer Graduate Institute and Prison Fellowship Will engage in leadership programming for Kappa men and evangelism behind prison walls.

BIG THOUGHTS in the Thriving Minds Summer Camp Brittney will serve as Community Instructor of Visual Arts in Dallas, TX.
Leon Moukendi Business Administration/Accounting Major Junior Interning at:
Consumer Federation of America Moukendi will be the first HBCU to have a three-month internship in the Washington D.C. office of America Saves.

Myrtha Magali Genes Computer Information System Major Sophomore Interning at:
National Hispana Leadership Institute Will participate in the Latinas Learning to Lead Program dedicated to personal integrity, ethical leadership, and the highest standards of public service.
Cameron Smith Business Management Major Freshman Interning at:
Sherwin-Williams Will engage in practical business-to-business and retail experience servicing paint contractors, including marketing/merchandising, inventory management, financial reports, and operations management.

Student Invited to Give Speech On Thursday, May 29, graduating senior and outgoing SGA President,
Mahogany Terry, will be the commencement speaker for J.S. Clark Charter
School, located in Opelousas, LA.

HBCU History Through tears, sweat, and long nights spent practicing, the Melvin B.
Tolson/Denzel Washington Forensics Society has made HBCU history! Not only
did they sweep the 2014 JV national tournament, they also took home the
Overall Championship at the 2014 Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive
Tournament.
This is a huge accomplishment for the young team and marks the first time an
HBCU has won one—let alone two—national championship titles. Freshman
Robert Hollar says “I’ve never been more thrilled to be a part of an amazing
team as I have here.” Congrats!

Miss UNCF
Miss Willisa Gaut has been
named the 2014 Miss UNCF.
While WC students have held
this prestigious position
before, Miss Gaut is the first
Marshall, TX native to be
honored with the title.
Miss Gaut is a biology major
and plans to pursue a
doctoral degree in a
chiropractic program.

Chief Charvis Graduates! Chief Jon C. Charvis will join the ranks of Wiley Alumni with a degree in Criminal
Justice Administration this May. Chief Charvis is currently head of campus
security at Wiley College. Congratulations!
