New England factories and cities ports
rivers and streams
In the United States, New England was the first region
where the Industrial Revolution developed.
This era saw many changes in manufacturing , and these changes
brought people to factories and cities to work.
New England had many ports , which made transporting
goods easier.
The machines in factories were powered by water from the
region’s rivers and streams.

Factory system cotton gin poor soil
Power loom manufacturing farming
Two examples of new machines were the cotton gin and the
Power loom, which spun thread into cloth.
Many people were willing to do factory work; poor soil in New
England made farming difficult.
In a factory system all steps of the manufacturing
process were housed in one building.
