Wash - the laying down of watercolor in a smooth transparent layer.

Transparent - a layer of paint in which the white of the paper is visible through the paint.

Opaque - a layer of paint that blocks out the white of the paper or other paint layers behind it.

Scale of color - the orderly series of tones with a color; thus, yellow running from full strength to white, or from yellow to black.

Dry brush - a paint brush that is mostly dry, but still holding paint; a dry brush has lots of color. (scratchy look!)

Wet brush – a brush with lots of color and water; used for a wash.
