Contestants who had won titles from their respective Centres competed against one another to be crowned Mr and Miss Waterberg 2010. The Judges, Mr Andrew Nkoana from Health Zone and Ms Portia Kekana from the company Just Physical Project had a difficult job in judging. Contestants competed in Casual-, Sport- and Evening wear. They also had to answer tough questions from the judges. Charles Mapoma from the Engineering and Skills Training Centre was crowned Mr Waterberg 2010 and Refilwe Masenya, also from the Engineering and Skills Training Centre was crowned Miss Waterberg 2010. The Engineering and Skills Training Centre came out as the biggest winners of the night, winning five of the six 6 positions in the pageant. Prizes for the winners included Home-theatre systems, Digital cameras, Scientific calculators, dictionaries and Flash discs. Congratulations to Mr and Miss Waterberg. As part of their duties they will be ambassadors for the College an will accompany the Marketing Department when they do school visits and by performing duties during College events. KARABO MAKGATO On 29 July 2010, Mr and Miss Waterberg 2010 was crowned during the finals held at the Lebowakgomo Civic Centre Hall. Contestants who had won titles from their respective Centres competed against one another to be crowned Mr and Miss Waterberg 2010. The four best students in the 2009 N o v e m b e r F i n a l E x a m i n a t i o n s w a s : Modika MT: the best performing student in Electrical Infrastructure Construction Level 2, Mamabolo MV: the best performing student in Civil Engineering Level 2, Mogakane G.T.D: the best performing student in Engineer ing and Related Design Level 2 and Kadiaka R.P who

was the best performing student in Engineering and Related Design Level 3. Four new Lecturing Rooms The Business Studies Centre had an increase in student registration which resulted in a lack of adequate facilities. An additional four lecturing rooms had to be built to address the increase. The Recapitalization Programme funded by Government provided the funds for the building of the additional lecturing rooms. The facility will be ready for operations when the College re-opens for the Academic Year in 2011.

MATHS OLYMPIADMD MODIBA (COORDINATOR) In an endeavor to increase the interest in Mathematics and Mathematical literacy, Waterberg FET college participated in the Maths Olympiad 2010 in both First, Second and Third Round. Mercy Gumbe represented the College at the University of Limpopo (Third round)..“Once again, a big THANK YOU to all who made the students' participation possible!!”

All NCV Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 students are eligible to write supplementary exam in their selected subjects if they have achieved a pass in at least five subjects towards completion of subjects in a Level.2. Any NCV Level 2 and Level 3 student who writes a supplementary exam may proceed to register in the next Level only if they have passed five of their subjects in the previous Level. 3. Any NCV Level 2 and Level 3 student who did not pass at least five subjects will have to re-register the subjects failed before being promoted to the next Level. Students repeating these subjects are expected to write all tasks for ICASS for the coming October/November examinations.

HOTEL SCHOOL OPENS IN 2011

CURRICULUM The flag ship of the Waterberg FET College is ready for operations for 2011! The project was funded through the Government Recapitalization Fund and construction started in 2007. The Hotel School situated in the main road of Mokopane has been completed and students will be trained in a modern training facility on all aspects of the Hotel and Tourism industry. State of the art industry related catering equipment has been installed and currently the furniture and finishing touches are in progress. The NCV programmes main aim is not only to cater for the subject theory, but to expose students to practical experience and training for job readiness. The Training facility caters for the following:- Conference facilities – auditorium and boardrooms- Bed and breakfast facilities- Take away/Fast food Cafeteria- Fully licensed restaurant Students will be trained in a simulated hotel keeping facility which will include house-keeping, laundry, servicing of bedrooms, preparation of food, store keeping, stock taking, reception etc. The kitchens are equipped with high tech industry equipment which will provide excellent training in vegetable preparation, cold storage and pastry preparation. This facility will contribute to the development and training of the students in the Hotel and Tourism Industry in the Limpopo Province and will attract students and tourists from all over South Africa.

FUN-FILLED CULTURAL DAY DANIEL MASENYA On 3 June 2010, the IT and Computer Science Centre came alive and joined the vibrant atmosphere to the build-up of the opening match of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. Students came in large numbers to be part of the Centre Cultural Day and made their presence felt by whistl ing, clapping hands and blowing vuvuzelas. The Programme Director of the day was Mr. Maluleke and Ms. Mokwatlo, the Librarian of the Centre, outlined the purpose of the day. The College wants to instill the love of reading and stimulate students' interest in reading books. The day was also about upholding one's culture, to be proud of your culture and to respect another's culture as we are part of the Rainbow Nation. Items rendered on the day ranged from Poetry, Drama, Story telling and Debate. The English Lecturer, Mr. Motolla, caused a stir by singing Love Songs. One of the songs was “I won't let you go” that he sang with two female students and danced to the delight of the cheering crowd. Thumbs up Meneer (Sir)!! Students participated in 2 Dramas. The title of first Drama was: CEO of Pride and the second Drama's title was: Education is the key to success.The Debate theme for the day was: Can technology replace books? The debate was interesting with students producing great facts and smart ideas through their communication skills. Students who participated in the Cultural Day were given certificates for their performance. The Drama casts that was led by Audrey Manong, were given bags, medals and certificates. Well done, you guys really rocked. Let's remember to keep reading alive!!

ABRAM MATALA and KARABO MAKGATO The three Centres of Waterberg FET College celebrated for the first time a College Cultural Day on 29 July 2010 at the Lebowakgomo Civic Centre Hall. Winners from the Centre Culture Days which took place respectively on 3 June 2010 and 16 July 2010, competed against one another to crown the BEST of the College. With the Civic Hall nearly packed to its full capacity, the inter-campus competitions brought with them massive talents from the students who took part in the activities. Poetry, debate, story telling, drama, traditional dance and various other activities demonstrated different cultural ways of living as the purpose of the day was to celebrate the thing that strengthens and motivated us, our beautiful cultures. The judges for the day were Mr E Nkadimeng and Ms R Sebopa from Lepelle Nkumpi and Dr LS Maphoso from Thobela FM. The IT and Computer Science Centre took the trophy for the category of displaying excellent self expression in Drama and Debate, while the Business Studies Centre and the Engineering and Skills Training Centre took the Crown and Center Stage with their Gumboot Dance, Story Telling, Traditional Dance, Choir, Poetry and Mr. and Miss. Waterberg 2010. Winners of this day will compete at the Provincial Cultural Day at Lephalale. The day was a huge success as we held the College Name and Slogan up high, because TOGETHER we ENSURED SUCCESS!

CURRICULUM The Waterberg FET College is the only College in the Limpopo Province with a farm – located near Sterkrivier about 40km from Mokopane Town. As part of the NCV p r o g r a m m e , P r i m a r y Agriculture, students are introduced to subjects like A n i m a l - a n d P l a n t Production, Soil Science and Agri-business. A partnerships with the University of Limpopo is formed for extra training and p rac t i ca l t ra in ing fo r students on vegetables and live stock. Students are exposed to all aspects of farming through this programme. Primary Agriculture is one of the College ‘niche’ areas.
