by Dave Whitelaw - TheGrinder Guy

One of the best ways toget rid of sorted wood

and general residue froma C&D recycling line is togrind it to fuel size andship it to some sort of

Co-fired Plant or Kiln af-ter removing the un-burnables, dirt, brick, block, concrete and

steel. Also, it is impor-tant to remove the hardPVC plastic and circuitboards. Once that itdone, a producer can de-termine the size of thefuel he intends to mar-ket. That can differ fromplant to plant and Stateto State.

Generally, wood firedplants can handle a 6”minus product. Thereare some kilns that use a3-inch conveyable mate-rial and many othersthat use a 1-inch blow-able material to mix withtheir coal. Typically, BTUvalues of the C&Dresidue are often 5,000

to 10,000 BTUs, depend-ing on the materials be-ing recycled in the sys-tems. By comparisoncoal is 12,500 BTUs orthereabout.

In many of these recy-cling facilities, there isone costly piece of equip-ment that I find continu-ally, and that is somesort of high speedgrinder at the end ofthese systems to grindthe wood waste into afinished product, usuallyinto a fine, shredded ma-terial. More importantly, these grinders are prob-ably the most costlyparts of the operations.

STOP! Why does thematerial need to beshredded so finely? Theonly time you can makea case for a high speedgrinder is if you are ship-ping a 1-inch product.Even when your finishedproduct material is thissize, a grinder of thiskind has an infeed ratethat is so low, there is noneed for a unit of thiskind with a big diameterrotor and all its expen-sive parts and all thatwasted horsepower.

A slow speed shredderwith a small screen sizecannot only make theproduct you want, butreduce your costs by us-ing less horsepower andlimiting the wear toabout one-fourth of whata high speed grinderwould offer. The hum ofthat high speed rotorspinning, whether elec-tric or a diesel driven, iscosting you all your prof-it on the fuel product youare creating and proba-

bly everything else too.Another area of savings

is to screen your materialbefore grinding. Screensare cheap in comparisonto grinders. You reallyneed them to remove thedirt fines from your prod-uct to reduce your ashcontent anyway. So if youhave some oversized ma-terial that needs to be re-moved, scalp it off too anddrop out those fines whileyou are at it. You’ll getmore money for the bio-mass fuel you are making.

One model of screensto consider is a starscreen. Star screens gota tarnished reputationfrom some of the earlyyears in the industry, but today’s models arenothing like its prede-cessors. They create lessdust than trommels, they don’t plug up likeflat decks, you can ad-just the sizing in sec-onds and you can createthe multiple productswith the same deck. Bysplitting the deck, youcan remove the dirt finesthat don’t burn andscreen the rest of theproduct to a specific sizefor your customer.

We recommend thatyou review your opera-tions. What if your grind-ing costs were reducedby over 50 percent andyou were paid more foryour fuel? Wouldn’t thatbe an improvement?

Need some help, giveus a call. Got a question?Drop us a line. DaveWhitelaw 813-421-2757or e-mail [email protected].

Slow Down.... Save fuel and $$$$

Rugged components in a slow speed shredder, delivers a ground material that isready to use as a biomass fuel product.

New model meets Tier4 interim emissions

requirementsRACINE, WI — Case

Construction Equipmenttoday launched itsCX470C full sized exca-vator. The machine is thenewest in the Case C Se-ries excavator line thatfeatures increased fuelefficiency, productivityand improved servicea-bility and operator com-fort, while achieving Tier4 Interim certification.

The new Case CX470Cexcavator replaces thecompany’s CX470Bmodel. It features Tier 4Interim certified cooledexhaust gas recircula-tion (CEGR) technologythat burns cleaner whiledelivering superiorhorsepower.

The CX470C, rated at362 net hp, is availablein Long Undercarriage(LC), Retractable Under-carriage (RTC) and MassExcavator (MEX) mod-els, with operatingweights ranging from105,300 to 108,600-pounds. The CX470Cmodels are roughly1,100-pounds heavierthan the previous modelfor improved capacity.

The CX470C MEX isdesigned for heavierloads and larger buckets(up to 4.13-square-yards), achieving higherproductivity in large ex-cavation jobs and highvolume truck loading. The Retractable Under-carriage version providesundercarriage widthadaptability for trans-port between jobsites.

“In today’s extremelycompetitive economy, contractors need ma-chines that will reduceoperating costs and boostproductivity. The newCase CX470C excavatordelivers both,” said TimO’Brien, brand marketingmanager, Case Construc-tion Equipment.

“The CX470C joins aproduct line from Casethat sets new standardsin fuel economy, produc-tivity and operator envi-ronment,” O’Brien said.

Like other excavatorsin the Case C Series, thenew CX470C featuresCase Intelligent Hy-draulic System technolo-gy that reduces total fuel

consumption and im-proves performance.

Boom Economy Con-trol (BEC) automaticallyreduces engine RPMsand hydraulic power tothe boom when speedand power is not a prior-ity, such as when swing-ing back to the hole.Swing Relief Control

(SWC) technology man-ages the hydraulic powerallotted at the start of theswing operation andSpool Stroke Control(SSC) creates an auto-matic pressure adjust-ment to meet demandduring digging opera-tions, but without build-ing unnecessary pres-

sure. Then, the feature ofAuto Economy Control(AEC) lowers RPMs whenthe joysticks are inactive.

Also boosting fueleconomy and perform-ance are engine improve-ments such as comput-er-controlled fuel deliv-ery and variable geome-try turbocharging, as

well as automatic match-ing of engine perform-ance and RPMs to powerdemands and hydraulicsystem requirements.

Municipal yard waste recycling centers have comea long way in the past twenty years or so. Oneexample of that is the Virginia Peninsulas PublicService Authority (VPPSA) Compost Facility inYorktown, VA. With more than 20 acres of asphaltpaved space available for receiving leaves and yardwaste, it is an asset in which the communities ofHampton, Poquoson and York County can take greatpride. The facility has successfully developed andgrown over the years demonstrating that theircomposting facility is extraordinary.

VPPSA is a ten city and county solid waste author-ity,” said Donald “Donnie” Bonivich, the CompostFacility supervisor for VPPSA, after he dismountedfrom the facility’s Komptech Topturn X-60 CompostTurner following the turning of one of the facility’s 12windrows. Members include the Cities of Hampton,

Poquoson, Williamsburg and the Counties of Essex,James City, King and Queen, King William, Mathews,Middlesex and York. The Towns of Tappahannock,Urbanna and West Point are also included.”

The facility receives material from residents, communities and businesses, and includes leaves, grass and brush. Brush can be up to 10-feet in lengthand up to 24-inches in diameter. This past year, thearea experienced considerable storm damage fromHurricane Irene, which prompted VPPSA to keep thefacility open for an extended period of time to helpmake storm clean up go more smoothly. “We weretaking in storm debris seven days per week for sixweeks,” he said. “There was a lot going on from thefirst of September until mid-October.”

Bagged materialDonnie said that he gets exceptional support from

Stephen Geissler, executive director of VPPSA, andDavid Magnant, the director of Operations, when itcomes to overseeing changes and improvements atthe facility. They are the first to recognize the need forconstant improvements and the importance of work-ing together as a team to keep the facility in first classcondition.

Recently the facility began accepting bagged leavesfrom several of the communities. Bagged leaves willbe accepted from any member community as long asthey are in the approved plastic bags. (Clear, no drawstrings and are 0.7 millimeters or less in thickness)There has been an excellent response to this newprogram, and staff has been experimenting with waysto debag the leaves in increasingly successful ways.”

Bonivich said that Mid-Atlantic Waste Systems thecompany from whom VPPSA purchased theKomptech Topturn also assisted them in modifyingan existing piece of equipment to debag the leaves.“We are in our second year of doing this,” he said.“Cutting knives were installed in an older Komptech(Mustang) trommel, and it has been working reason-ably well. We can process 200 to 300-yards of baggedleaves per hour.”

material is initially ground using a tub grinder andthen stockpiled so it can cure for a minimum of threemonths. During the curing process temperatures inthe stockpiled mulch can reach 180 degrees. Thisprocess kills off any larva and weed seed that mayhave been in the material when it arrived, alsoensures that the material will be safe to place arounda customer’s property. The stock piled mulch goesthrough the tub grinder once more and is thenscreened into mulch fines and reground mulchproducts.

The compost facility accepts leaves and grasswhich is used for making compost. The material isground in the tub grinder and placed into windrowsthat are several hundred yards long, 20-feet wide andabout seven-feet tall. The windrows are monitoredover the next six months to ensure consistency.

Donnie said that the facility’s Komptech Topturn X-60 self-propelled compost turner really comes inhandy for keeping the material aerated and process-ing properly. “With each windrow containing 1500-yards of material, there is quite a bit of compost that

needs to be turned on a regular basis,” he said. “Mostof the compost that goes out has been processing atleast eight months. We measure the internal temper-atures of the windrows and turn them regularly.”

When the composting process is complete and thematerial is ready for sale, they process it through aMcCloskey 733 trommel before it is sold tocustomers.

The compost facility offers four products for sale:reground mulch, mulch fines, compost and a soilblend. This can be a busy place.

The facility hopes to offer colored mulch in the nottoo distant future. This product was offered severalyears ago, but with the economy people were leaningtoward the lower prices offered on regular mulch. There seems to be the interest now to offer it again.VPPSA is a member of the U.S. Composting and thenewly formed Virginia Composting Council. For moreinformation about the VPPSA compost facility contactthem at 757-898-5012 or for information about all ofthe VPPSA programs visit them on line atwww.vppsa.org.

The X-Series windrow turners from Komptech arethe only turners on the market with optionalscraper bar mounted behind the drum. This patent-ed device allows the turner to pick up all of thewindrow, even the very bottom three to four incheswhich other turners leave behind. It’s in these threeto four-inches where huge odor problems start forcomposters. Because this layer never gets turned, itgoes anaerobic and begins to smell. When thewindrow is turned the bottom, smelly layer isexposed and odors are allowed to escape.

The removable scraper bar rides on the groundsurface and picks up this layer preventing any partof the windrow from going anaerobic and thuspreventing nasty odors.

Mid Atlantic Waste Systems has been working withVPPSA to develop a trommel application that will shredthe plastic bags that are used to haul yard waste to thecomposting center. A closer look at the interior of thetrommel (inset), reveals knives around the drum.

nology and engine im-provements, we’ve actu-ally increased fuel effi-ciency on the CaseCX470C excavator by fivepercent over our previousB Series model,” O’Brienexplained. “And all of ourCase C Series excavatormodels continue to be inthe top of their class forproductivity.”

Increased productivity

With up to five percentfaster cycle times thanthe previous model, thenew Case CX470C exca-vator can move morematerial and load moretrucks per hour.

Along with faster cycletimes, the new Case ex-cavator offers operatorssmoother and easier con-trol and maneuverability.

The CX470C excavatorprovides six percent morelift capacity than the previ-ous B Series model. Withits standard arm length of11-foot 1-inch, the CaseCX470C excavator has amaximum dig radius of39-feet 4-inches, a maxi-mum dig depth of 25-feet4-inches and a dumpheight of 25-feet 5-inches.

The boom and arms,as well as the mainframeand undercarriage struc-ture, have been re-designed for this addi-tional capacity, deliver-ing improved, worldclass durability.

Its standard arm dig-ging force is 42,490-pound-foot and standardbucket digging force is55,530-pound-foot. Avail-able Power Boost technol-ogy increases both ofthese values by approxi-mately 10 percent.

The CX470C featuresa 172 gallon fuel tankand a 122 gallon hy-draulic system.

Improved operatorenvironment

“The Case CX470C ex-cavator provides a highlyfunctional and comfort-able environment for theoperator, an importantconsideration in achievingmaximum machine pro-ductivity,” O’Brien said.

Noise reduction im-provements, including vi-bration refinement on thecab’s reinforced tubularstructures, create an ex-tra quiet cab environ-ment, with automotivelike noise levels as low as72 dBa. “It’s like being ina car even when the exca-

vator is running at fullthrottle,” O’Brien noted.

As in other eight per-cent. Standard rearviewand optional sideviewcameras feed video to a 7-inch high definition LEDmonitor in the cab, en-hancing operator confi-dence and jobsite safetyduring machine operation.

“The large, clear moni-tor in the Case C Seriesexcavators compares fa-vorably to what you’dfind in a luxury automo-bile,” O’Brien said. TheLED screen also presentsto key operating data, in-cluding a new functionwhich provides fuel con-sumption per hour. “Op-

erators can use this in-formation to refine fuelefficiency for their partic-ular operation,” he said.

The machine’s low pro-file design also enhancesvisibility from the cab, efficiently accommodat-ing Tier 4 emission sys-tem components withoutcompromising the opera-

tor’s view of the jobsite.The CX470C excavator

also includes a standardair suspension seat andan in-cab auxiliary hy-draulic setting systemwith a new option for 10memory recall, attach-ment flow settings tomake tool changes quickand easy for operators.

HUGER, SC — Aftercommissioning a new370,000-pound SEN-NEBOGEN scrap handlerat the Kinder Morgan En-ergy Partners barge facili-ty in the Port ofCharleston; the truck fleetuse was reduced by 25percent while still keepingpace with customers’ de-mand for material.

Faster turnaround forKinder Morgan’s fleet of100 ton haulers and re-ducing the impact of ris-ing fuel costs were themain points when SEN-NEBOGEN approachedKinder Morgan with theconcept of the 880 R-HDmaterial handler threeyears ago. “We move be-tween 1.5 and 3.5 milliontons of material out ofport here every year,”says Terminal ManagerDaryle Wall. “The vol-umes of our facilities inthis area have providedus with experience usingevery kind of materialhandler, crane or excava-tor you can name. Wewere already looking foran alternative in 2007,when SENNEBOGENcame to us with their ideafor the largest electricdrive scrap handler in thecountry. We saw that wehad as good a location asyou’d want for this type ofmachine, so we decidedto work with SENNEBO-GEN on the project.”

Constantino Lannes, president of SENNEBO-GEN LLC, welcomedWall’s interest in theproject. “It took a leap offaith for Kinder Morganto step up to the 880 R-HD,” he says, “but theirapplication here andtheir experience with ourequipment made themthe ideal partner. SEN-NEBOGEN led the adop-tion of electric drive ma-terial handlers in Ameri-ca. No one had producedan electrically poweredunit as large as this, sowe needed a test bed toprove the engineering.

The 880 R-HD wouldbe a prototype, and itwould take time to build

and refine the new ma-chine. “We knew we werethe guinea pigs. We did-n’t know if it would work, but we wanted to try be-cause of the future sav-

ings which, with the wayfuel costs have gone up,turned out to be a prettygood decision,” saidWall. Since the new ma-chine went into opera-tion, diesel deliveries aredown more that 20 per-cent, saving the facilitysignificant costs on a

monthly basis. More throughput

with a smaller biteAt Kinder Morgan’s

Berkeley Operations, afleet of haul trucks car-ry up to 140-cubic-yardper load from the dockto nearby stockpiles. Atdockside, the unloading

facility had been usingrope cranes fitted with22-yard grapples. Thegrapple on the 880 R-HD machine is half thesize, with just a 10-yardcapacity, but it keepsthe trucks cyclingfaster, with larger loads.“Our other cranes are

big and run much slow-er for the job,” saysWall. “They couldn’t ac-curately fill up the cor-ners of the truck likeyou can with the small-er grapple. The trucksare moving more to-wards their capacity at

140-cubic-yard thanthe 110 to 120-cubic-yard we were getting. The 880 R-HD can alsorun two complete load-ing cycles per minuteinto the trucks, againstjust one cycle with theold machine. The turn-around for our trucks isfaster, so we’re unload-ing the barges fasterand doing a better jobfor our customer.”

The crawler mountedmaterial handler simpli-fies the unloading opera-tion further by beingable to traverse thelength of the dock underits own power. A poweredtether line allows themachine a 400 -footrange of movement toposition itself for unload-ing either of two bargesat the dock. With thismobility, there’s no needto winch the barges intoplace under the crane.

Electric is simplerAlong with the fuel

savings, Wall says thatswitching to electricdrive saves other operat-ing costs as well. “Wedon’t have to worryabout oils, lubricants orengine rebuild costs,”Wall continues. “With adiesel engine, you havethe possibility of over-heating, which is com-pletely eliminated withthe electric motor. Theelectric motor is a muchbetter solution, causingless downtime. Electricis simpler, much morereliable, much more “ac-curate” so it eliminatesoverheating. And it’s qui-eter, so it’s even betterfor the operators.”

Wall notes that theSENNEBOGEN cab wasalso welcomed by his op-erators. “With the cabextended up and out, theoperators are able toview the entire barge atonce. We have operatorsasking to transfer downhere for that job!”

Commitment pays off

Having taken a risk tocollaborate with SEN-NEBOGEN on commis-sioning America’s first880 R-HD, Wall says thenew machine has morethan met expectations. “Ican’t give enough creditto the SENNEBOGENservice team, Jim West-lake and Bob Marean. They worked through all

the ‘interesting’ chal-lenges that came upalong the way — there’reno better guys out there.Being so new, thereweren’t a lot of mechan-ics anywhere trained onthis, but they and ourdealer’s mechanics havebeen great about comingout and working along-side our mechanics. And, they’re continuingto stay in touch, monitorthe machine’s use andservicing, along withtalking to our operators.”

“We all committed tothis project and it hastaken us out furtherthan we ever dreamed,”Wall concludes.

SENNEBOGEN hasbeen a leading name inthe global material han-dling industry for nearly60 years. Based in Stan-ley, NC, within thegreater Charlotte region,SENNEBOGEN LLC of-fers a complete range ofpurpose built machinesto suit virtually any ma-terial handling applica-tion. Provides greater frictionresistance than tradi-tional PTFE greases DAYTON, OHIO —

New DayLube high per-formance grease usesnanoceramic particleswhich act as sub-micro-scopic ball bearings toprovide continuous lu-brication to steel sur-faces, and is especiallysuited for use with con-veyors. With a much

lower coefficient of fric-tion at all temperaturesthan traditional PTFEgreases, chemically inertDAYLube is also envi-ronmentally friendly. Itmaintains its viscosityacross full temperaturerange and is NSF-H1Food Grade Certified.Extraordinary adhesionextends production upto 10 times that of othergreases. This proven

nanoceramic lubricatinggrease does not soften orrun out — after 100,000production strokes itshows no evidence ofbreaking down. DAY-Lube provides unparal-leled friction reductionand wear resistance, making it ideal for awide range of industrialapplications. In additionto the protection of con-veyors and their bear-

ings, DAYLube is alsoproven on bushings ca-bles, cams, chains, gears, lifters, machineparts, robotics, slides, wear plates and more.

DAYLube operates intemperature ranges fromminus 40 degrees faren-heit to 800 degreesfarenheit — and thenanoceramic particlesremain intact to 2500degreen farenheit. It sur-

vived the ASTME fourball weld test with noweld and minimal dam-age to all ball bearings.Competitive brands, onthe other hand, pro-duced a soft weld aftertwo seconds and com-plete failure and majordamage to all bearings.

DAYLube has highload bearing properties,a low dielectric constant, does not contain metalor silicone and is resist-ant to steam, acids andmost chemical products.

“Customers using DAY-Lube for their conveyorsreport significantly longerservice life — up to 10times longer than tradi-tional PTFE lubricants”said Dayton Progress Mar-keting Communicationsmanager Bob Hedrick.“Even when compared tonanotechnology products,DAYLube has a lower costper ounce. When consid-ering all factors there is nobetter lubricating valuethan DAYLube.”

DAYLube is availablein 16 ounce tubes and16 ounce jars, as well ascases of 12 each (jars ortubes). Industries bene-fiting from the use ofDAYLube include materi-al handling, distributioncenters, aerospace, agri-cultural, automotive, can makers, consumergoods, food and beverageprocessing, general man-ufacturing, marine, med-ical/scientific, mili-tary/national defense,

pharmaceutical, stamp-ing and fabricating, truck, bus and more.

From the time that Richmond Virginia’s S.B. Cox,Inc. began doing business in 1963 as a demolitioncontractor and construction service provider, thecompany has strived for excellence in every aspect ofits operation. Today, the family owned company hasgrown to encompass seven divisions that include aRoll Off Division, a C&D Landfill, a Crane ServicesDivision, a Portable Toilet rental service as well as aRecycling Center Division, in addition its originaloperation as a demolition contractor.

The Recycling Center Division consists of a facilityin Richmond that opened in 2008, and a new opera-tion in Yorktown, VA. With this kind of enterprisinggrowth, it comes as no surprise that S.B. Cox wouldadd the new recycling center in an effort to increasetheir capacity to divert recyclable waste from the

company’s Taylor Road, C&D Landfill nearChesterfield, VA. More importantly, with the additionof this new recycling center, S.B. Cox has been ableto offer a much needed destination for C&D wastematerial that was not there previously. Without thisnew facility, much of the C&D waste material gener-ated in Virginia’s Tidewater Region, had no otheralternative than being taken to other landfills servingthe area where it was ultimately buried.

“This is the only facility of its kind on the peninsu-la,” said Wayne Roskop, Recycling Manager for thenew Yorktown facility. During our tour of the center,Roskop explained that the building of the complexwas a team effort from within the company. He saidthat S.B. Cox workers did the site prep work on the10.2 acre complex, and they put up the 150 by 250-

foot containment building as well. S. B. Cox crewsalso did the concrete work on the ramps for the truckscale that monitors incoming and outgoing loads. Helikened the teamwork to that of a family gettingtogether to build a new house for one of the familymembers.

Roskop noted that Continental Biomass Industries(CBI) was called in to design and build the materialsprocessing system. They chose CBI because of thesuccess that they had experienced at the RichmondRecycling Center. There, a CBI system has beenoperating reliably for the past several years.

When it was time to build the new recycling center,

As material comes off the incoming conveyor, a worker looks for cardboard to pull from the mix.

Ground wood waste is moved from the CBI grinder atthe far end of the system to the bin that is designatedfor wood waste materials.

CBI was a natural. He recalled that the new facilityhas been steadily increasing in volume since itopened on Sept. 7, 2011. The increased material flowmeans that they are accomplishing what we set outto do when the commitment was made to build thisfacility.

Eight products diverted from the landfillThe Yorktown plant is currently sorting out eight

different recyclable materials that now bypass thelandfill. For example, the cardboard, metal, plastic, copper and brass, are sold on the open market. Theconcrete is retained and crushed on site for sale tocontractors as a sub base material with the fine (1-5/8-inch minus) being used at S.B. Cox’s TaylorRoad Landfill as ADC.

Asphalt shingles sorted from the material streamare taken to a custom grinder who returns them to beused Asphalt mixes of other companies. The woodwaste is ground to create mulch products, boiler fuel, with a portion of the material going to a paper mill asbiofuel. “We are constantly looking at waste materialsthat are brought into our facilities, to see what elsewe can recycle,” he said.

“From the time our excavator operator places agrapple load of material into the input hopper untilthe remaining waste material goes off the far end ofthe conveyor, takes only three minutes,” he said.“That gives you an idea of how this equipment andour workers can sort out the incoming material.”

As material leaves the input hopper, it initiallycrosses a Taper Slot Screen where smaller material 1-5/8-inch or minus are removed and sent to a largestorage pit with an auger to keep material moving tothe front of the bunker. Larger wood waste is removedduring the picking process where it is dropped onto abelt beneath the work area. This takes the largerwood pieces back to the Grizzly where it is groundwith the other wood waste. During that process, woodwaste passes beneath one of two magnets where nailsand other metal debris is removed before goingthrough the grinder. The facility is open for inboundmaterial from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday throughFriday and Saturdays from 6:30 to noon. At the timeof this writing, the system was in operation eighthours per day, Monday through Friday.

Cardboard, plastics and vinyl siding is baledindividually, with an American Baler with the bun-dles heading to market when a truckload has accu-mulated. The baling takes place when a sufficientsupply of either material has filled their respectivestockpiles in one of the storage bins beneath the con-veyors. Cardboard bales routinely run about 1650-pounds while the plastic bales run approximately

1450-pounds each.Looking ahead

“S.B. Cox is a wonderful place to work,” Roskopsaid, reflecting on how long a number of the employ-ees had been working for the company. “I believe theaverage longevity of our workers is over 10 years. Weall work together to help get things done. We evenhave people working for the company for more than40 years.”

Roskop said that the current plant configurationallows for future growth with the potential for asecond production line sometime in the future. Hesaid that it might possibly include a trommel for siz-ing wood material as the markets for those productscontinues to grow. With the dedication that S.B. Coxhas to make certain that material does not end up ina landfill, the addition might come sooner rather thanlater! For more information about S.B. Cox Recycling, visit their website at www.sbcoxdemolition.com or e-mail Wayne at [email protected].

Wayne Roskop, recycling manager, operates the loader as he moves material into the stockpile that feeds the CBISorting System within Cox's Recycling Center.

An excavator outfitted with a contractor's grapple, places material into the CBI Sorting System's intake hopper.

Nails and other metal objects are pulled from the mate-rial stream by powerful magnets and dumped into oneof two containers.

The stair step design of the TAPER-SLOT Screen, givesit additional capabilities for removing selected materi-al from the material stream.
